Has anyone had any experience trying to add another person to their dining reservation day of? I have been trying to modify our existing reservation for a character breakfast for 2 people to add 1 more person, but it continuously shows no additional availability to switch. Is this something that is typically easy to do day of/when you show up for your reservation with the hostess? Or should I keep trying to modify on the MDE app? Would love to hear. Thank you!

When you check in on the app you can add +1 adult more than your reservation is for - so if you truly need a table for 3 on your 2-person reservation it shouldn’t be a problem. I’ve done this several times (and also shown up with 1 less) and I’ve never had any trouble getting seated for my reservation time.

Going from 2-3 can be challenging if the table they have for you is a 2-top. I would continue to attempt to find a reservation for 3 people. Personally, rather than trying to modify I normally search for a brand new booking then change it if one becomes available. You may also wish to look for a group if 4 and if successful, modify it down to 3.

If none of the above work you can try at the restaurant say if, knowing there is a chance they will not be able to accommodate. My experience is that normally they can but there is no guarantee.

Going down is much easier. They will try and do their best, but one time when we asked, we had to wait longer and then ended up with 3 people squished into a 2-top. Of course we didn't complain because it was nice of of them to allow it, but just be aware there might be trade offs. We have just made it a hard rule not to make changes now. Easier on us and them.

Have you tried modifying your current ADR to a party of 4? The reservation system does not like odd-numbered parties and also doesn't seem to like leaving a place empty - if you search for a party of 3 and a table for 4 is available, it won't give it to you because it wants to fill that table with 4 people. So it is quite acceptable and there won't be any penalty if you book for 4 and show up with 3 (except for prepaid and some special packages).

If you can't modify your current ADR to 4, I agree with above recommendation to search for a table for 4 and book it if you find it, then cancel the original ADR for 2 people.

I have seen no additional guests allowed, even in the app, many times. It very much depends on the restaurant’s capacity at the time of your ADR. Very popular restaurants at peak dining times can & do refuse additional guests. People showing up & wanting to add “just 1 more” happens all the time. There are similar posts here several times a month. Not everyone can always be accommodated. The dining page online now reminds you to count everyone, including infants when making dining reservations.

Showing up with less guests has never been a problem for normal ADRs.

Thanks to all for the great advice! Ive set a dining alert with one of the services, and am also still checking on the app - and trying the 4 person trick! 😉
