I have heard of this disease but wanted to know when it hits and what is the cure? Why do you add on and why at different resorts?

We haven't even closed and am already thinking of adding on at SSR. Just a very small resale if we could.

I must have the disorder!

We had add-on-itis. The only cure is more points. When you have more points then you can use, you're cured.

It's true. It is a documented disease. We bought sight-unseen into SSR 18 months ago. Has our first stay 6 12 months ago in BCV. The disease set in shortly thereafter and now we have points at SSR, BCV, BWV, and HHI. It was an expensive cure, but I think we are all set for a while. Though....occasionally I get the itch to check the resale boards and...maybe a few more HHI points might be in order.... Uh-oh, the disease may be in remission, but I don't think I am cured!

We haven't close either and I definately have a severe case of add-on-itis  I keep thinking we need at least 50 more points (yeah, right!!) and I'm starting to look at the resales :)

I told DH about adding more points and he just laughs. I guess add-on-itis is not contagious or is it? ;)

Which means, of course, that you're never cured!

Seriously, many people buy with one scenario (and points to fit it) in mind and then quickly find out a couple of things:

1. They want to go to WDW more often than the scenario called for.

2. They want to stay in larger accommodations than they planned for.

The second one is what got us. I figured our family of four would be good in a 1BR (never had a studio in my scenario). Then we quickly found that a 2BR makes the vacation umpteen times better with the separate beds and a clear living room and kitchen.

I don't think we'll need to go to the Grand Villa quite yet. But I can see #1 above hitting us when we are no longer restricted to breaks in the school calendar. :rolleyes1

I think there is some pixie dust in those new member kits. You just open the box with your contract and are immediately, almost magically drawn to calling TS or MS to check on more points. Someone said it best, you are cured when you have too many.

True-I bought in May and have been suffering from it ever since. The only cure appears to be financial reality, but the urge doesn't really go away. You just keep trying to figure out ways to feed the addiction. I'm hoping to be able to afford to do it in the Spring-between tax refund and work bonus I might be able to pull it off.

One other possible source of "contamination" to the disease of addonitis is: prolonged and frequent exposure to the Disboards, especially the DVC ones! :lmao:

Since we pay our dues in a lump sum, I get an annual innoculation to protect myself from add-on-itis. So far, it is working, LOL.

Apparently, Addonitis is a virus that can be spread over the internet, especially the DIS boards and there is no known cure(except for Bankruptcy). :)

good one! ha ha

I am glad we all have it. It there a daily meeting I can go to? Hi, I am April, I am a Disaholic! Not meaning to be disrespectful...Hee hee another joke! I have ad on itis!

I will be happy to close and then find more points. I can't help to think back on April of this year. I wanted to go to WDW. Our first trip as a family. I have property in S. Fl and was raised in Disney but that was so long ago.

I don't know if they check our credit score, our income, or what but we went from a Fl rate at a value to a 1 br room at OKW for the same price!

Right then and there, our first trip, we were sold! Disney knows what they are doing!

ADD ON!

Oh I agree, we closed at SSR in November, stayed at VWL once and added on there…. It’s really contagious.

tacomaranch - like you I thought a lot about adding on when I was waiting to close about 3 months ago. Since then, I've resisted the urge to add on, but I do have my first trip home comming up in February, and another trip booked in October. I'm still thinking about adding on a mere 25 (ok - 50) points when I visit in February, but think I can resist. Does anybody else know if this is the normal course for the disease, and if I'm just fooling myself? :confused3

I bought BWV in May . This week I bought Wed afternoon and made ressies Thur am .

I bought more points because we were going to be paying more than $1,000.00 for a room for a few nights that we needed. Instead of giving Disney the money for the rooms I figure the money is gone we need the room , we just have no more points. Well if I put that money towards points it would lower the point cost to about $55.00 a point ( using the $1,000 I would have given to CRO anyways . That money was spent one way or another) so I couldn't pass that up.

I bought the points and changed my cash ressie to point ressie and now have 25 more points.

I would like to buy maybe just 25 more but I'll wait till I get my tax refund though.

We must have it but are resisting at the moment (we only bought last month!) because we keep talking about where we want to buy next. My only question is this. . .how do you know how much to add on so that you don't end up with more than you need?

We have 200 pts. at SSR and are considering 50 pt. contracts at one of the Epcot resorts, possibly AKV and then eventually Contemporary (if it ever happens). We would total 350 pts. I that about average?? Are 50 pt. contracts worth it or do they seem limiting? Any advice?

Oh, I am fighting the disease but we are from the North so winter takes its toll on us!! Have they invented a vaccine for it yet?

Thanks -

Ellen and Brian

We are looking into buying 2 or 3 small contracts. We already have 175 SSR points, but...
Stayed at BCV a few weeks back & DH is in the delirium tremens stage looking at BCV &/or BWV, maybe a little VWL & down the road, AKL :rolleyes1

Yep, DH has got it bad & that is good! :cloud9:

We purchased in 2005 at SSR and added 50 points on before we even stayed at the resort. We are looking to add on another 50 just so we can stay in a one bedroom whenever we want. Our first stay was in the dedicated 2 bedroom. We are taking a quick trip in Jan staying in a 1 bedroom. After staying in the 2 bedroom and then the one bedroom in Jan I don't know if we would ever want to stay in a studio. We have two sons; 7 and 2. I think we have addonitis. I even schedule to meet with our DVC guide on our next trip.

We bought DVC in Spring of 2006 after our first visit to BW - immediately reserved for Thanksgiving (SSR) and Spring (BWV - home resort) , then decided to get an Annual Pass with the DVC discount. So, of course, we want to add some trips since we have "free admission" with our AP - but - we don't have enough points for another trip! And, what do you know, we get this great offer for $15 off for add-ons! And - to make things worse - we're considering it!

Yup, got it here, too. Resisting for the moment. Waiting to hear what the points/price will be for AKV before making any decision. No doubt about it, it is contagious. :goodvibes
