Assuming all purchases are made through DVC, must add-ons have the same Use Year as the original contract?

Yes, DVC will only sell fewer than 150 points in the same Use Year as your master contract. If you have more than one contract with different Use Years, you can select which will accept the add-on.

If you buy a small contract thru resale, it's technically NOT an add-on since it is a stand alone contract. In some cases, we've had reports of DVC combining small resale contracts with existing contracts (by request) if the Use Year and home resort are the same as an existing contract.

That makes sense. If it was 150 points or more, it wouldn't need to be the same Use Year because 150 points is the minimum to buy a new, stand-alone contract.

This explains a lot. In a different thread where people are discussing add-ons, they'd say things like, "I need 50 BCV points with a June Use Year." With the flexibility afforded by banking and borrowing, I had been wondering why they were so hung up on a particular Use Year, but now I know the answer: they can't do a small add-on (through Disney) unless the Use Year matches.

I just purchased thru resale a 270 pt contract with a Feb use year, and Disney automatically combined it with a 170 pt contract that I purchased thru Disney. I didn't ask, Doc, so I think Disney did it automatically. Apparently I have a 270 pt add-on contract!
