Add on/New Resort/Same Use Year Matter?

I've got a BLT contract with an October use year; if I were to purchase points at another resort (e.g. not BLT), is there any benefit to looking specifically for the October use year, other than not having to remember two banking deadlines?

people misuse the term, but an "add-on" technically refers to adding to your current membership.

so if you buy a new contract under your current membership (which has to be titled the same and have the same UY month), the pts can be pooled together at 7 months out (not 11 months out since they are different home resorts) to book a single night. so if you want to book a single night in a 1BR that costs 28 pts, you can use 12 pts from your BLT contract and 16 pts from your new add-on.

if you are just buying more pts, you can still book 4 nights with your BLT contract and 3 nights with your new contract and ask MS to link the reservations, but you cannot pool pts from both contracts together (unless you use up your transfer - which makes things a little more complicated.)

A different UY means a different membership. As mentioned, that means that you can not combine the points for a single nights reservation without transferring between the two.

There is a limit of one transfer, in or out of your membership per UY...while MS has allowed some leeway with this in terms of the same owners, there is no guarantee that will happen.

I own two UY's and have not yet found it to be a problem but that is because I bought 150 points when I did it. I think that helps me to keep them and use them as their own membership. At one point I owned only 50 points in a different UY and I found that would have proved difficult so I sold.
