Can I add a day to my park ticket first thing when I get there? Or do I need to use a day on my ticket first?

It depends on when and where you bought the ticket.

You can add a day at any time as long as the ticket isn't more than 14 days from first use, and is for less than 10 days. Assuming the ticket is not a special ticket, like the ones you get in raffles.

The use the ticket once thing is for bridging tickets which were not bought from Disney at a discount. Then using them once "locks in" the current gate price and you get that full price when you upgrade.

jco_direwolf is absolutely correct. I purchased Disney tickets from Undercovertourist and upgraded to a ten day non expiration park hopper from a 6 day. I entered the park with the ticket and upgraded at guest relations.

Perfect thanks for clarifying that up! We purchased ours through disney so it sounds like we will just do it when we get there first thing. We can do it at guest relations in the park I know. Can we do it at our hotel too? We are at AoA. Shouldn't mess up our FP+ correct? Hope there are no glitches :)

Since you purchased from Disney you can call and do it now over the phone. We just did it a few weeks ago to go from a 6 day hopper to a 7 day hopper for all of us. It didn't mess up any of our FP+ and it was only $34 for the 4 of us for the extra day. I saw the change on MDE within minutes on calling. Good luck :)

How very strange...

The charge should have been $40, plus tax ($42.60.)

It was $34.08 for the change to add a day for 2 adults, 2 children (one who is considered a Disney adult). Maybe that is why your math is off? :confused3

The difference in price between a 6-day ticket and a 7-day ticket is $10.65 ($10 + 6.5% tax) whether it's for an adult or a child, so it should've been $10.65 x 4, which is the $42.60 Robo came up with.

ETA: I checked the WDW website, and the price for 6-day hoppers for 3 adults and 1 child (since one of your children is a Disney adult) is $1571.94. Changing to 7-day hoppers makes the total $1614.54, which is a difference of $42.60.

Strange! Not sure why there is a difference from what the WDW website says and what they charged us. My TA did the upgrade for us (she made the call) but we went from 6 day PH to 7 day PH and the additional charge was only $34.08. Maybe because she did it? This is the first time I've used a TA but I didn't think it would really make a difference in things like this? :confused3

After I booked my package online I realized I shorted myself one day park passes. I called right back and was told she wasn't able to add a day that I could do it at guest relations when I arrived? :confused3

I will try again.

1- I called right back and was told she wasn't able to add a day that I could do it at guest relations when I arrived? :confused3

2- I will try again.

1- That will work just fine.

One traditional reason to wait... is that tickets, once received, are non-refundable.
So, booking a minimum ticket is one way to make sure that you don't buy "too much ticket."
You can always add days (up to 10, total) but you can't "return" any unused days at the end of the trip.

Now, with FP+ advance reservations, it can be much more critical to know (and buy) the "right"
number of days, in advance, for your trip.

2- You can also do that, if you like.
