there's some kind of animal stuck in my wood stove pipe...I can't figure out how to get it out, don't know what it is...it's making noise and sqeaking (bird?? a bat??) DH is away...I'm freaking out! Who do you call for this sort of thing?? HELP!!
Try lighting a very small fire - maybe just burn paper to see if you can smoke it out. Nothing that would generate heat unless you want to kill it.
Bats do not squeek it's more of a hiss almost. I had bats in my garage for a few years and even in the winter which was odd they would make this noise when I would raise the garage door.
Birds have very delicate lungs, so the smoke would likely kill it before any heat actually would.
OP, google or look on youtube for videos of people removing birds from their woodstove pipe. I saw a bunch when I was looking up how to get rid of a bird stuck in our chimney (we ended up having to call a chimney sweep).
whatever it is, it's in the pipe that leads from the chimney to the stove.DH told me to open the clean out door outside on the chimney so hopefully it will find it's way out soon. I opened the door and then tapped on the pipe to get it to move but it's still there
We had 2 squirrels trapped in out chimney, last spring. We called a chimney sweep place and they gave us the name of someone who removes animals. So I would start with calling who normally services your wood stove.
We had the same thing happen to us. DH said it was empty, so it must have gotten out. Next thing I knew, we had a flying squirrel swooping around our basement. That freaked me out!!!
