My Galileo thermometer fell off its shelf and shattered in my living room! I thought the liquid inside was supposed to be water, but as I cleaned it up I found that it is some type of oil- it actually smells like WD40  !

How should I clean the affected carpet area??
Thanks in advance if you can help me- Google failed me in this matter, lol!

Possibly mineral oil? I'm looking it up.

"The liquid inside the Galileo is clear and contains paraffin and petroleum distillates, which are found in many household products. " ->http://www.weathershop.com/lcm_galileo_thermometers.htm

The bottom of that link gives a rough idea of how to clean up a broken one...
