Ace, Me, & the Guy with CP *An update on Bill Pg. 70*

We got on the Magical Express, pulled up to Port Orleans Riverside and were very excited. My plans were to check in, go to the room, help Bill freshen up, put away everything from our carry on luggage, and head for DTD.

We went to check in. I walk up smiling, told the cast member the name the reservation is under, and she got to typing. I said “I just want to confirm that we have a handicap accessible room with a roll in shower”. She says “No there are no notes on the reservation”. I said “there has to be, Bill (I gestured to him) called the Special Requests number and booked through them”. (Remember in the last installment when I asked you to remember Bill is the one that makes the ressies?) She said “No he didn’t.” I said “excuse me? Yes he did”. She then replied “No he didn’t or it would be in the computer”. I then said “Yes, he did. He makes the reservations every trip.” She said “He did not, there is no way he did or it would be in the computer”. I was very upset at this point Bill was too I could see it on his face. Bill and I were both tired, and I didn’t have the fight in me at that point. I said “we have to have a roll in shower”, she went to typing again and said she found they only one available. She gave me the “keys to the World” cards and off we went.

The other thing that was on the requests was to have a room closer to the bus stops and the lobby (I know not all requests are given, although the roll in shower was a necessity). We were in Parterre Place, the last set of mansion buildings closest to POFQ. I was upset because it was confusing to find paths that didn’t end up leading to stairs. We finally found the room and I sat on the bed. Talk about going from a great high (the angel in the airport) to a great low (the meanie at the reservation desk). For some reason I just lost it and started crying:sad: . I guess I just needed to let it out.

I then got a second wind and was very upset about the reservation cast member essentially calling Bill and me a liar. I got on the phone and asked for the manager, I was put on hold then a manager came on. I explained the situation, how the cast member had acted, and how upset I was. She started typing and said she saw what happened. The cast member must not have looked at the right screen because there was our reservation with all our requests. We were supposed to be in Building 14 in Alligator Bayou. Some one had been placed in our room but would be leaving the next day, would we want to move the following day? I asked Bill if he wanted to stay in the room we are in or move. He said if it wouldn’t be too hard on me we could move the next day. We confirmed with her, I thanked her for her time and we hung up.

The reason I told this story? If you have reservations through the Special Requests Department, make sure to call a couple of days prior to your reservation to confirm that the requests are on there. If I would have done that I would have known for certain they were in the computer system and I probably would have pushed it standing there talking to her. When she said it was not on the computer I was flustered. Not any more, I will stand up for what I know is true.

Next installment… We just missed seeing KathyRN  and we had breakfast with Susan Lucci (Erica Kane, All My Children)

Oh my goodness, I didn't realize we had a "near miss"!! Well, we won't let that happen next time, will we?! :cool1:

I'm glad you called and spoke to the manager... the first CM really caught you off guard. Too bad she didn't eat her pixie dusted flakes for breakfast that morning!! :rotfl:

Kathy

I would have been so upset! Luckily you were able to change rooms the next day. I've stayed at POR 3 times and each time I've been in PP. I get lost every time! It's so confusing for me, the signs are very unhelpful too. I end up walking around the building 2 times before I find my room and there's no hope for finding the ice machine. :rotfl: I've never stayed at Alligator Bayou...how was it?

I don't understand how the Disney computer system works, but it must be very confusing because there always seems to be a mix-up!

I will explain in the next installment about the "near miss". That CM really upset Bill, he knew he did everything right and it hurt his feelings:sad2: . I wanted to jump across the counter and shake her by the time we got our "keys to the World", but I know that wouldn't have been a magical thing to do :rotfl:.

We loved Alligator Bayou, they gave us a corner room in Building 14. We were right by Riverside Mill and there was a walk way from our room to the bus stops. I would gladly stay there again!!

I don't understand how the Disney computer system works, but it must be very confusing because there always seems to be a mix-up!

I know after we make the reservations through the Special Requests Number, they are supposed to lock our requests so if we call in and talk to the regular # about anything they have to clear it through special services first. I called in about a pin code in August that I recieved and was put on hold so that the Special Requests people and the CRO office could discuss it. For some reason our requests had not been locked and the Special Requests CM was upset about it. She made sure everything was locked in, she was in a wheelchair and understood we have to have a roll in shower room.

Better alert the tower, looks like your two ticker-planes are headed for a mid-air collision!!

When I first started reading trip reports I came upon KathyRN’s “Adventures in Autism”. I highly recommend it, it is brilliantly written, as all her trip reports are.
kathyrntrfan.gif

I read it because her family was at WDW around the time we were (November 2006) and autistic children are very close to our hearts  as you know from the “Summer Camp” installment . Bill and I got into the habit of me reading out loud at least one installment from her report nightly back in June. I shed so many tears reading that report. It was amazing.

While reading her installment for November 8th we couldn’t believe what I was reading. Kathy and her family had been at Alfredo’s that night and had seen a gentleman with a service dog. We had been at the restaurant that night and had been sitting by that gentleman and his dog. We were at the restaurant around the same time. That prompted me to PM her and she has been so wonderfully nice to me ever since.

When we got back to the resort that night, we had to go to the desk to find out what room we were in. They moved us to Alligator Bayou Building 14.

Here is a pic of the Building and the room:
PORalligatorbayoubldg14.jpg

bedinbldg14.jpg

I got into the room and this is what I see:
flowersthatshowedupthesecondday.jpg

Bill is so sweet. He had gotten me a bath gift basket last trip, it was in the room the day we arrived. So this time he wanted the flowers to arrive on the second day to surprise me.

The reason why we picked this time in November was to go to Super Soap Weekend (SSW). For those who don’t know, it is an annual event at Disney MGM Studios. ABC soap opera stars are there, doing interviews, shows, autographs, and are in motorcades.

I made the mistake of telling Bill that Susan Lucci always had a chat club breakfast during SSW. She plays Erica Kane on All My Children. He then decided we should go to it. We bought tickets for it in October before the trip. We gathered at the bus stop the morning of the breakfast waiting for an early bus to take us. Many other “chat club” people were there and told us what to expect.

When we arrived we got bracelets to enter the park. We walked to the Hollywood Brown Derby and before we got inside the restaurant they gave us gift bags. They were wonderful. It was a great surprise. Bill and I were seated on the upper tier of the restaurant. A nice gentleman came up to us and started talking. He asked us where we were from, how we liked Florida, and if our seats were ok. We told him thank you the seats were wonderful. He excused himself and started talking to press people that were setting up in one of the booths to talk to Ms. Lucci after the breakfast was over. Bill asked me if I knew who it was. I told him yes, it was Susan’s husband Helmut Huber.

This is Mr. Huber on the right behind Bill:
SLbkfthelmutinbackground.jpg

He was such a wonderful man; he talked to us several times. He told us how things worked and said if it was ok with us could we be the last people she met? He would walk her up to us to talk. I then blurted out “that’s fine, we have all day!” I was nervous and when I am nervous I either shut completely up or talk a blue streak. Bill was laughing at me, he still teases me about it. I am embarrassed to this day to think how much of a dork I was talking to him.

Ms. Lucci sat at a table and had stacks of her pictures to sign for people. The other people that attended had several different things for her to sign. The breakfast was supposed to be over by 10am. Mr. Huber told the press they would have to wait because Susan wanted to meet every fan that attended.

When she was done with everyone else, he went down, she put her hand on his arm and they walked up the stairs together to meet us. She is so gracious and kind. She is also tiny. She signed one picture to me and one to Bill. We both had our picture taken with her. She talked to us for a little bit and thanked us for coming. We had a fun time.

Next installment…if you don’t have a fastpass how do you get a picture with a soap star?

Well I wouldn’t go that far, but it is not on our list of things to do at WDW. SSW is held on Saturday and Sunday. We were also there on Friday because of the Susan Lucci breakfast.

To see the interviews and the motorcades we had to be in the wheelchair section. We were behind barricades so we were essentially stuck on 2 separate days at the time the parade came by. I have nothing against the parade, the parade has done nothing to us, it is fun to watch, but after seeing it for 2 days straight there is NO reason to watch this again. I say this but there will be no way to avoid it on our upcoming trip (yes I do remember there is an upcoming trip, I swear I am getting to the planning of it).

Here are some random pics of Bill and people from the MGM parade. That wheelchair is a character magnet:

That is Bill's finger pointing back at Darth Vader :rotfl:.

To answer the question “How do you get a picture with a soap star without a fastpass?” You stumble upon the place where they go in and out of for breaks:rotfl2: . We were having lunch outside at the Backlot Express and started hearing people yelling out soap stars names. I turn around and there are a couple of them, each with cast members taking them where they needed to go.

As I have said a couple of times, I am pooh sized, but you should have seen how fast I moved when I saw one particular soap star. I grabbed my camera, yelling over my shoulder, “I will be right back Bill”. I was paid back for leaving my b/f, my pic came out all blurry as the star was walking by :sad1: . I deserved it.

The moral of this installment: Don’t leave your real life Prince Charming for a pic of the fantasy man :sad2: . In my defense of leaving Bill, here is exhibit "A", a pic of the man I ran after:

Aidan.jpg
He is from England, I love listening to him talk!!

Here are the pics of Bill and some soap stars. (I need to learn to ask the cast members to take the pic so I can be in it too.)

Bill with Forbes March (Nash on One Life to Live). Bill is totally in shock that Forbes came up to him:

ForbeswithBill.jpg

Bill with Kelly Monaco (Sam on General Hospital). She won season 1 of “Dancing with the Stars”. She has also been in Playboy, so Bill has a pic with a playmate ;) .

kellymonacoandbf.jpg

Bill with Cameron Mathison (Ryan on All My Children). He is the host of SoapNet’s “I Wanna to be a Soap Star”. He is also one of the dancers on this seasons “Dancing with the Stars”.

CameronandBill.jpg

We both wanted to see Michael E. Knight (Tad Martin on All My Children). We had seen him in interviews and on TV he is very funny. We looked at the schedule and found out when and where he was going to be. We went there and were standing behind the barricade. He walked up signing autographs and taking pictures on his way to the booth. I have heard he drives the cast members crazy because he always spends time with people that walk up to him and it makes him late for scheduled events.

He signed some autographs and started joking with a lady in the crowd. He then saw Bill. Mr. Knight talked to him not at him like most people try to do. He asked Bill if he looked better in person or on TV.

michaelknightandbf2.jpg
(See how far he is leaning over to talk to Bill?

He started to climb the barricade to get to closer to but the crowd pushed forward. A cast member took my camera and Michael leaned way over the barrier to get to Bill. Bill was laughing so much.
This time I didn’t think about bending down to be in the picture  . I was just staring at Mr. Knight and looking at those wonderful blue eyes. At least I am wearing lime green :lmao:.

michaelknightandbf1.jpg

The last one was taken by someone else. I saw it online in their pics from SSW and asked if I could have a copy, she graciously said yes.

mekandBill.jpg

This last pic is of Bill and Justin Bruenig (exJamie on All My Children). We were on our way out of the park and saw him getting ready to leave his booth. He saw Bill, complimented him on his ear ring and then let me take the picture. He was a lovely gentleman.

Next installment…Why is the gorilla running toward us??

That is so great that all those characters and soap stars sought Bill out!!!

You really got some wonderful pictures.

I'm going with you and Bill next time!

Wow!

First, thanks so much for the compliments. I'm so glad that we were able to "meet" through a trip report!

I remember that service dog distinctly because it looked so much like our Aimee. I also remember that it was very :crowded: in Alfredo's that night, and in EPCOT in general because of the F&WF.

You see, we were destined to meet!

Speaking of meets, I'm amazed you and Bill were able to meet so many stars. Naturally, I recognize Susan Lucci because I remember her from back in my High School days when I watched the Soaps. She is so beautiful and sweet! I'm sorry to say that I don't recognize any of the others b/c its been years since I watched them.

Wait a minute. I went back to look at those pix again. I think that a young Michael Knight may have been playing Tad back then... We're talking '78-'81 here. I only caught about 1/2 of All My Children by the time I got home from school. Then it was GH and then Edge of Night (Is that last one even around anymore??) I'm very out of it, Soap-Wise! :rotfl:

Looking forward to more....

Kathy

Come on along :thumbsup2, we will be there in November and are already discussing a December 2008 trip :yay:.

We were very lucky to meet the stars we did. I don't know how this year will go, but we are just going to wing it again. We had a great time last year so if it isn't broke don't fix it.

I only have one more back story installment, I promise then off to Bill and I going back and forth between dates, resorts, and ADR's:lmao: .

I am lovin your story..its heartwarming!:)
Really exciting meetin all those soap stars.
I love susan lucci! Have watched her from
day one of the soap. she seems to be a
really gracious lady. Hopefully I'll make it
to Soap fest one day... its my birthday

SharonW, thank you so much for reading my pre-trip/previous trips report. I am so glad you posted.

It was exciting to meet them. They were all so gracious and nice. Happy early birthday, lol. I bet it was so fun to tour the set. I always loved Ruth Warrick, lucky you for getting to meet her.

Tracy, I'm finally here and all caught up! You two are the sweetest couple. Love knows no boundaries. Thanks for taking the time to write the back-story. I really enjoyed getting to know you. I've found over the years that we all have a story, here on the DIS. You may not realize right away what that story is, but it's there. I think DIS'ers really get the meaning of love, friendship and family. :grouphug:

I love all of the soap stars pictures!!! WOW! What a great time of year to go to WDW! Thanks for sharing your trip with us. Hey, if you guys are planning a December 2008 trip, maybe we'll see you in WDW! :thumbsup2

I can't wait to read more! popcorn::
Take care,
Michelle

Ok I am all up to date now! Great pictures from SSW and of Susan Lucci. I am a big GH fan and one year my sister and I will make it there!

Thank you so much for your sweet comments. We are planning a trip for 2008 just not sure whether it will be November or December we keep going back and forth :rotfl: on the month.

Ok I am all up to date now! Great pictures from SSW and of Susan Lucci. I am a big GH fan and one year my sister and I will make it there!

Hi luvfigment!! It is getting so close to your big day :yay: . You would have so much fun if you went to SSW, I will have a bunch of pictures when I get back.

Now off to the last back story installment. I bet your are all thinking "thank goodness for that".:lmao:

We love all the parks, I adore Animal Kingdom. I love getting to see the animals up close, they fascinate me.

The exact details are a little fuzzy as it has been 10 months since the trip, but I have pictures to remind me. I go picture crazy.

We had never been to Pangani Forest Exploration Trail and I was really looking forward to it. Here are some pics from the trail.

Hippo viewing area:

Seeing the meerkats brought memories of our dog Ace. He loves Animal Planet and Meerkat Manor is his favorite. Here is a pic of him watching Animal Planet:

When we got to one of the gorilla viewing areas we were looking through some glass at them. One of the biggest in the troop had just gotten a head of what looked to be lettuce. He was about to sit down and then he saw Bill. He came running toward us and sat down right in front of him. He started peeling the lettuce head and not taking his eyes off of Bill. They were staring at each other. We both got such a kick out of that.

Here are some pics of Bill’s gorilla friend:

Running toward us :lmao: .

That's Bill's head.

Here is a picture of the AK parade, again the wheelchair mesmerizes the characters in the parade and they have to get to Bill:

AKparadeBillwithTimon.jpg

We were sad to see our time at the World end. I was secretly hoping we would go back and it didn’t take long for Bill to start talking about “next time”.

Next installment… I actually remember this is a pre trip report and start talking about the trip we are about to take in 48 days :faint:

Great pix of the hippo. Mine never come out, they just look like blobs. I too love AK, I think most people don't spend enough time looking for/at the animals. I kid you not but one of the silver back gorillas looks like my Uncle George! I don't know what that says about my Uncle.
Looking forward to your planning info,

Heidi

Another great back trippie! They are fun to read and am glad you have shared them with us. I pictures of the Hippo came out great as did the gorrilla one! The picture of your dog is too cute and reminds me my friends dog that watches TV all the time.

Do you have any news plans for the Trip?
