We will have a couple of days to explore Bar Harbor and Acadia. There is a lot to see, what should be sure not to miss? We will have a car, our bikes, and can do some moderate hiking. What have you done there that was most memorable?

Great dining, if you like to dine outside there are a number of places.

Take the CAT to Nova Scotia for the day.

Schoodic Point is beautiful. I can sit there for hours watching the waves crash.

Shopping district is nice to stroll in the evening.

Enjoy!

There are a lot of carriage paths to bike on, stop by the visitor center for a map.
Hike Great Head (near Sand Beach).
Hike up Cadillac Mtn instead of driving to the top!
Hike the Beehive (it's not a difficult hike, but you do have to climb up some iron rungs stuck in the rock, and some of the hike is on narrow ledges).
Hike Gorham Mtn, eat blueberries along the way.
Hike Wonderland, especially at low tide. There are lots of tide pools.
Attend a campground ranger "talk" in the evening at one of the two National Park campgrounds. You can get a schedule at the visitor center.
Take the mail boat to Cranberry Island.
Eat a lobster dinner in Southwest Harbor on the dock.
Go sea kayaking.

Since you have your bikes I'd say do some of the carrage trails.
The Beehive is great hike.
Tea and popovers with strawberry jam at the Jordan Pond House. So good!
And of course there's Bar Harbor for supper and shopping.

Definately take a bike ride on the carriage trails- There are whale watch cruises as well as nature cruises (dress warmly for the cruise- it's much colder on the ocean) Have lunch at Geddy's- it's a fun place! Go to Bernard (on the other side of the Island) and have lobster at Thurston's Lobster Pound! It's worth the drive!!

Thanks for the suggestions! They give me some good places to research. I think the kids would like to do a whale watch trip, and biking the carriage trials sounds good too.

Get up really really early and be the first in the US to see the sunrise!

We've not (yet!) done it, but I've had friends who rave about the "Dive In Theater" cruise. The guy dives from your boat with a camera/mike and then brings critters up to the boat to see.

Where are you staying?

We'll be camping 4 nights at Hadley's Point, then heading over near the NH border (around Fryeburg) to camp 4 more nights.

I've got 3 teenagers, I doubt we'll be able to catch the sunrise!

We were in Bar Harbor this past weekend, and had a fantastic time. Unfortunately, we didn't get to spend a lot of time in Acadia because of the rain, but we did drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain for an amazing view. I second the recommendation of Geddy's for lunch. Good food, great atmosphere, and reasonable prices. We also liked Stewman's Lobster Pound for dinner, and their little ice cream place next door was great. Also, if you get a chance try the Two Cats Inn on Cottage Street for a great breakfast.

We didn't get a chance to try the Dive In Theater, but the innkeeper where we were staying told us about it and said that everyone raves about it.

Enjoy your trip!

Acadia is the national park I want to visit most. If you are into multisport activities (since you have a bike I assume you are to some extent) there is a lot of biking, hiking, and Kayaking in the area. Some Googling will get you some kayak routes and trails for hiking and biking.

Have fun.
