Because of the economy our plans have changed, and we are going to stay in our current house for 2 more years. I want to get an above ground pool (not an Intex but a real one). Anyone have a specific brand that they recommend or don't recommend? Thanks! :surfweb:

We bought ours from a local Long Island company, so I'm not much good to you.

But I will tell you, it was a wonderful investment!!!

Do you use chlorine? One of the things I'm looking into is a salt system, less chemicals can't hurt right?! Also, do you use a solar cover?

Thanks :)

Yes, we use chlorine.

And, no, we don't have a solar cover. Our 3 kids are in the pool pretty much daily from mid June until after school starts in September. They don't care about the temperature.

(I, of course, would love it warm as bathwater.)

Three Brothers, in Bethpage! http://brothers3pools.net/

And for installers we used Sparkle Pools-- they open and close our pool every year, and they're wonderful.

I can get you their info if you want it; it's upstairs, I'm downstairs, and I ate too much Easter dinner to move at the moment.

Thanks!! What are their prices like? You must know I like a good deal, being this is the budget board and all!! Hahahaha!

BTW, sorry to threadjack!

Acutally, they're not cheap.

Island Recreation has much cheaper pools.

But I liked what I saw at 3 Brothers. I liked that it was a local company. I liked what they showed me about the quality of their materials... I forget all the details now, but they convinced us to spend more money for mateials that woudn't rust out in a few years.

There was no hard sell. I liked that too.

Our pool is pretty small- 4x 15', with a smallish fantail deck and a fence all around the pool. But I LOVE having it!! (Particularly this summer, with all I'm reading about cutbacks at the beaches!!!)

We bought ours at Harrows about 6 years ago and it's worked out great.
I've heard good and bad things about Island Rec & Harrows.
A friend bought hers at Aquacade with no problem.

lucigo,

Why not contact 3Brothers and ask for a referral of someone in your neighborhood? Maybe they'll be able to help you!

I was at that flea market ONCE, and I'm not a fan either.

But I can walk to Aquacade!

That's funny! Is the Plastercraft still open by Aquacade?
My girls are in high school but when they were young we use to go there alot.

It couldn't hurt...but I don't need anything that fancy, the plan is that once the economy recovers and Florida is hiring teachers again, that we will be buying a house with closets and an inground pool. I say two years because DH is in grad school so we will definitely be here for 2 more years, then we can move, whether its locally or somewhere closer to the mouse!

So...I want something nice enough to enjoy for a couple of years, but not too big of an investment.

My parents have an above ground that they bought from Rec Warehouse a few years ago. They got several upgrades on it, and it was still quite a good deal. It has held up wonderfully over time.

Nope, they closed down about 3 years ago. But there's a similar one in Plainview :)
