So, I thought i'd ask this on the DIS, I booked a pre WDW cruise, but it's looking like due to Dh's work schedule we won't be able to take the extra time, so my question is, if I get my deposit refunded, I will have lost $, because I think then I paid 580CAD for a 500US deposit, will I get CAD or USD back? And, would it be better to just switch that deposit $ to a dummy date for maybe next year? Thanks

You'll be paid in USD. Yes, it stinks that we (as Canadians) lose money since the CC charges a fee for conversion.

On the other hand, if you get lucky, you can "make" money. I had a deposit for a US hotel, I booked it when the CDN was high and canceled with the CDN dollar was low (the timing was just a fluke), so, after the conversion, I ended up with more CDN than I had paid out.

And credit cards use the buy rate for charges and the sell rate for refunds which ends up being between a 5-7% difference. If a company makes an error and charges you $100 US and then puts through a credit for $100 on the same day the amounts will be different.

Thanks for the responses, so as in a cheque in USD, or back on my CC, must be a cheque, correct?

If you paid on your CC, it should go back to your CC. I've never traveled with DCL, but that is the way that any deposit for a hotel/air ticket/other travel has been handled.
