I will be traveling with friends and staying at the Polynesian over Spring Break. Our collective children are 9, 10, 12, 14, and 17. My children love Disney Kids Clubs (especially the Neverland Club). We are thinking of an evening out - the 17 year old will probably come along (she has been to the Adventurers Club with us before). My 9yo and 10 yo are fine for the Kid's Club. But I know the age limit says 12. So the 12 yo could go, but would be pretty much as old as you can be there. Would he feel comfortable? AND would they consider letting the 14 yo attend? Should we just hire a sitter?
I guess we could get a sitter for the 12 and 14 yo.
We are just thowing out ideas and exploring our options at this point. If it gets to complicated I wouldn't mind staying back with the kids (although I do love the AC!)
So, anyone have experience with older children at the kid's clubs OR with older children and the available sitter services?
Thanks in advance for ideas and advice!

I do not think that they allow children over 12 in the children's clubs. My DS is 14 and he would be mortified at the thought of a baby sitter. In fact he is babysitting at home. Would you be comfortable letting he and the 12 year old stay in the room alone??? Poly has indoor hallways and security is pretty good but only you can decide if they have the maturity to handle this. If I was to do this I would be sure to take a taxie if you do not have your own car to cut down on travel delay in case of an emergancy, and set very strict rules about leaving the room etc. The younger two could go to the club. Just an idea...

I gotta go with MSSANDRA on this one. I think it would come down to the maturity level of the kids and the level of trust you have in them. I know when I was 14 yo (many, many moons ago), I would have been put out if my folks had wanted to get me a sitter. But that was me, and it was 25 years ago...My DW was actually babysitting by 12yo. But again, we are on the outside looking in.

My two cents... it can't hurt to call up and ask. With the computers and games available, maybe they wouldn't really mind it?

You've probably thought of this, but would the 17-year old want/be able to babysit and/or handle the 12 and 14 year old at the parks instead? You could pay her what it would cost for them to otherwise go to the Kids' Club.

Thanks for the input....and all the good ideas. We are still working on a plan but you've given me some things to think about. Mine are the 9 and 10 year olds so it's hard to imagine 12 and 14!!!!

Can't wait for this trip!!!!!

It's funny. While this is ultimatly the decision of the parents of these children, I keep thinking about it. 1st because I am the organizer/controll freak type person. 2nd because my family travels to DW frequently and my kids will be teenagers before I can blink. I'm wondering myself where and when we will be letting them have more freedom. I have, in fact, had a 14 yo babysit! I guess a sitter for a 14yo is a little out of the question. I think for my own, when they are that age I would probably be willing to go for a nearby dinner and leave them. But out to Pleasure Island and couple of drinks? I guess that is beyond my comfort level. That's why I got the crazy sitter idea!!!
(I of course am talking about the grown ups at PI with the drinks, not the kids!!!!:rotfl: )
Still working on it.

whatever the plan - we are going and going to have a great time~!!!
