I read somewhere once that people give the concierge staff gifts. Is this the norm? We will be staying @ AKL concierge in March and I was just wondering if I should plan to bring small gifts with me...so far I am VERY impressed with the concierge staff.

We do bring gifts for those that have assisted us. Concierge staff are not allowed to accept cash. We've gotten to know some of the staff particularly well so we try to get them something a little more personal.
Hope this helps, have a great trip!

Hi there, yes definately bring a few small things to give them ~ especially if you are already impressed and you have not even arrived yet.

I brought Little bottles of Canadian Maple Syrup and some Canadian Laura Secord Chocolates.

AKL Concierge is terrific in my experience with them.

Once I sent Amy at the YC/BC flowers when she was able to book breathless for us... she was great too!

I don't know if it's the norm, but we like to bring something from our area for the cast members who do so much for us. We've brought decorated mini-pumpkins, candy, personalized ornaments - nothing hugely valuable. After the hurricanes we sent a slightly larger gift to the CMs in the planning office, as they were so stressed out with all the cancellations, rebookings, etc. The cast members are such a big part of what makes our stays memorable, we really enjoy doing something nice for them, if only to let them know how much they're appreciated. I have to add, I think it's also important to share your appreciation in a nice letter to the management.

Just as an FYI, the staff you encounter at the resort, are probably not the one's who have been working with you on the pre-planning. I sent a few things to the pre-planning office to show my appreciation. The first was a letter to guest communications. I also sent a chocolate basket for them to share and as our trip coincided with Christmas, I found very appropriate ornaments and had their names engraved. I did bring some small things along on our trip, but never gave them out. Aside from one problem I had after checking in, I didn't really need the staff on site for anything. The CM at the desk wasn't even the one who helped resolve the problem, I ended up calling one of the pre-planners and she took care of it within minutes.

Ultimately, I think you should definitely recognize excellent service with a note to their manager or anything else that your comfortable with.

I always read on here concierge staff can not take cash. We were at cr last month and they had no problem taking our cash. They polietly said thank you and took the cash!
