Does anybody know how many 2 Bedrooms there are a VWL. We are planning a family trip the first week of Dec 2003. I know this is a busy DVC time, so I want to have all my ducks in row when I make the reservation. This trip will include, me, DH , DD's 7,4, and 8 months, and my SIL, and my Mom and Dad. I was thinking about requesting a lock off because we are bringing my parents, and I thought I would let them have the studio portion of the 2 Bed. They are early risers and they could make there own coffee and have there own balcony without disturbing the rest of the family. I also thought that since they would be the only ones in the studio part that they would enjoy having the sofa instead of another bed. My SIL could have the sofa in the living room and I'll bring a blow up bed for the 7 and 4 year olds. If I bring the blow up bed, where would be the best place to put it? SIL probably won't be there the whole time so they may only need it for a few nights. Any opinions on the lock off vs. the dedicated that I may not be thinking of? We have only stayed in a studio at VWL so I'm not sure what to expect. In a dedicated, what would be in place of the mini kitchen? I am so excited about this trip. My parents haven't been to DW since 1989. My Dad is a big train freak, and I just think he will love the lodge, especially the Iron spike room. I want everything to be great for this trip, any thoughts or advice. Thanks, Erin

Sorry I cant answer your questions about the 2 bedroom, we have only stayed in a studio but I am interested in seeing some posts come in regarding your questions.

The reason I posted here was your fathers love of trains. I have never been on this particular tour but MK has a 2 hour behind the scenes tour called The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains that cost $30 per person currently on Mon. and Thurs. You get to join the opening crew as they prepare for their daily operation, you visit the backstage roundhouse where the trains are stored and you explore Walts passion for steamtrains.

I told DW about this tour and how much our son who has to be 10 before he's old enough would love this. If you are interested in more info or want to make ressies, the # is 407-WDW- TOUR.

We stayed in a dedicated 2 bedroom which had the 2 queens in the second bedroom. The living room/kitchen area would be kind of cramped with a double bed size blowup, but should be do-able. Keep in mind the couch is a queen pullout, so it will take up much of your floor space.

Our 5th floor 2 bdrm had a great view of the tall pines! Super quiet! What a difference from the suberbs of DC... our kids actually complained about the "noise" from the quiet!!!

Thanks so much for the info about the train tour. My dad would love it. I'll plan on getting the tickets for that for him as a gift. Thanks coastie for the info about the blow up bed. Do you think one would fit in the Master bedroom? Or would that be too cramped. Any one else have any thoughts?

My suggestion would be to get the dedicated two bedroom unit. Put your parents in the master bedroom and your SIL on the living room pullout. Your family sleeps in the second bedroom - there are two queens in that room and the baby can use the portable Pac 'N Play crib. If you do that, you will not have to worry about bringing the blow up mattress and on the days that your SIL is not there, the living room/kitchen area is totally available to those who get up early or stay up late.

The only "negative" to the above suggestion is that you and your DH don't get the master bedroom. It would be a great way to treat your parents, though, and with 3 small children, you probably aren't expecting much privacy while on vacation, right??? :teeth:

Whatever you decide, have a wonderful trip!

Can the dedicated 2 BR be guaranteed, or just requested? We own points at BWV and VWL, but have never stayed at VWL, and I didn't even know they had dedicated 2 BRs. If it can be guaranteed, that would be great.

Thanks!

The dedicated 2 bdrms are the first to be reserved. We had no problem at the 11 month window. The second bedroom, in my opinion, is larger than the lockout. The bath/vanity area has LOTS of room. Please keep in mind, Disney always says "subject to availability." As CarolMN suggested, putting your parents in the master is a good idea... but the drawback is that YOU will not have the privacy and the HUGE master bath!! Then again, just how much time will you be in the room?

Have a great time. Make sure to check with the front desk about characters coming around in the AM hours. We were surprised with Goofy and his friends.

We stayed in room 5553, a dedicated 2BR in July. Just wanted to let you know that the dedicated 2BR do not have a balcony off the master BR. We stayed in a dedicated 2BR on the second floor facing the Mickey topiary and it was the same...no balcony off the master BR. If you think your parents may want to sit on the balcony in the mornings, they will have to get to it through the living room. The second BR does have a balcony though.

I'm pretty set on my parents being in the studio portion of the 2 bedroom. I don't think my SIL would be comfortable sharing a bathroom with my parents. My parents are used to sleeping in a
queen bed at home, and we have a king. I have to have my sleeping space or I'm not a happy camper!:teeth: If I request the lockoff will it be guaranteed?
