ABD Backstage Magic 2/20 - 2/25/11 *** Close to Selling Out***

Okay repeat after me the key word in that sentence was SHORT. LOL! I think you're doing it wrong if LONG is your answer. ;)

I just got back from dinner. We celebrated the Jewish new year with brisket, matzoh ball soup and of course, apples dipped in honey.

But had to work on Monday...definitely doing it wrong! LOL

Ahhhh...then you are allowed to say it is long. :lmao:

We have been beaten up by the aftermath of Tropical Storm Hermine the past two days. Although the rain is nice but gosh, does it have to be soooo severe?

I too am feeling like this is a long week. Maybe because I'm playing single parent while DH is on a 6-day business trip and he worked most of the holiday weekend, and his one day off (Sunday) someone rear-ended our car. :headache: Don't fret, we are all okay. Minor neck soreness for me, no injuries to DH or DD. My poor brand new car has minor dents and scrapes to the bumper and smells like cheap cappuccino (I was taking a sip when we were hit, thus squeezing the cup, lid popped off, hot beverage everywhere). In light of the above, my week really isn't going too badly. Just anxious for Saturday afternoon, when I'll have another adult back in the house!

Let's see, what's going on with everyone else..?
bkoehl - I hear you. This work week is only 4 days for me, but last week was Monday thru Saturday - something was short, and I think it was the weekend! :lmao:
Happy New Year, Mike!
Stay dry, Stitchlover!

Ok I'd like to change my answer...compared to you guys my week is GREAT! :lmao: Hope the rest of the week gets drier and less hectic!

I can totally relate to you. Since our daughter was 1 my husband's work schedule has been horrendous from September to February every year. We are talking leaving the house at 8am coming home at 1-2am the next morning and repeating the schedule. Sometimes for weeks on end, 7 days a week with no break. Then he will go a few weeks that he is home by midnight but no days off. Then back to 1:00-2:00 in the morning. I have always told people I'm a single parent 6 months out of the year. He is in that time of the year right now but it is much easier now that our daughter is almost 15 years old. He actually got home at 10pm last night and I was so excited to see him!

Hope your hubby comes home and gives you a little break soon! I'll keep you in my thoughts!

Thanks! He called yesterday to say he might get sent out of town next week and be in Spain the two weeks preceding Christmas. :scared1: I think next week's trip is off at least, which is good because my sanity is mostly gone.
TGIF!

While researching for my pre-trip plans, I found that the Renaissance Hollywood shows as sold out for the nights of the 19th and 20th. (ABD must have blocked rooms). Oddly enough, the Renaissance is available on the 18th for one night, but the rate is non-refundable due to a "special event." Out of curiosity, I called the hotel and they said it was cause of the pre-Oscar events. Weird, huh?

Michael,

I thought it was weird also, when I was waiting for Kevin to lock in our two pre trip days, I started to look around for the "Plan B hotel", and a lot of them were not or could not take bookings for the 18th and 19th. That's when it hit me that it was the weekend before the Oscars.

Fortunately Kevin got us in for the weekend, we are really looking forward to exploring LA before the adventure starts.

Hey Frank! It's strange though cause the hotel is available the nights of the 21st through the 25th at regular (refundable) rates.

Do you know what sights you will want to visit in LA before the trip?

Michael,

We were on the first DIS-ABD adventure but started our trip in San Francisco.

A lot of our fellow travelers on that trip had been in LA for a few days prior to our arrival, and raved about things like the Peterson Museum (I am a big car nut), the Farmers Market and other local attractions.

I know Kevin recommends the burgers at the Roosevelt Hotel.

When we did arrive we realized that there were lots of things to do locally in LA but once the Adventure started, we had very little free time (or energy) to explore.

We figured we would rent a car and tour around until Sunday when we could drop the rental to the airport and meet the ABD shuttle.

Any suggestions?

Frank

I've been in LA a few times (including my upcoming trip next month), and wanted to see something new. I was thinking of visiting the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley - about an hour north of LA - as they have one of the B707 Air Force Ones there. The Disney Geek in me always wanted to visit the Disney Family grave site, but wouldn't do that alone as I'm a bit creeped out by cemeteries. Another option was Universal Studios Hollywood, which can be reached via the Metro, so no need for a rental car there.

I haven't decided whether to stay "off-site" closer to the Reagan Library or share a room at the Renaissance with Suzette, which she has so graciously offered. There's still plenty of time to think about it and decide.

The Reagan Library is a great idea, I have seen video of the facility and would love to see it in person.

Never thought of the Disney graves - that would be a little spooky.

Not sure what we are doing when we arrive a day early. Possibilities are the Farmers Market and Universal. As Mike said, we still have plenty of time to decide..:thumbsup2

I would not be opposed to doing a group outing, in case anyone else was interested. We could maybe split the rental cost of a minivan.

We would be up for a possible group outing; sounds like it could be fun. We could let Rose, the daredevil drive us around.:scared1:

More than likely I will be visiting Universal Hollywood on Saturday and I will have a rental car for the weekend. I can probably pick up a few people if they are interested in going. I haven't finalized my plans just yet but I do know I will have a rental car. I have always wanted to compare the Studios so I'm pretty sure I will wind up going. Let me know if anyone is interested.

P.S. - I'm sending out my Docs tomorrow to make it really for real official. Woo-Hoo. I hope you're ready Kev, John, Pete & Walter!!!
