ABCs of Trip Reporting, Pt. 2-Life Can Be Crappy and Then You Move On (3/7)

Finally got up!! All I got to say is love the updates. Really thought I'd get a break with the kids going to school but it just seems like I'm busier than ever. Oh well I'll figure it out sometime.

I can't fathom why they'd shut a bar down just about the time folks are comign back from parks and are ready for a nightcap!! :sad2::confused3 It was baffling!

You can go up to the bar inside and they will give you a to-go drink but not to-go food. ;)

The pool bar may be a seasonal thing ad since it was after Labor day they close early. :confused3

Hi! I got sidetracked by some family stuff and then my computer crashed - nice guy at the base fixed it - anyway, nice to see you are not way ahead of me!

Hi All My Lovlies!!

I am going to try REALLY hard to get an update done and up in the next day or so. My pix are edited and uploaded, so just need to write it up. (Pee Before Pooh- The Beginning of Day 1)

Classes are going well, and it's amazing that Week 1 is already over- only 18 more sessions to go!!! The most awesome news? NO paper in the history class; the worst news?? My psych instructor is an odd duck, and I mean like Weird!! Apparenly in her world it's ok to toss the F-bomb around and call it funny. Whatever.

Anyway, I miss you all terribly!!

Hey there Liesa :goodvibes,

I've been incredibly behind of late but I'm trying to remedy that! So glad to hear that classes are off to a good start! I looooove history, love love love it! We're doing Ancient Greek history right now for homeschooling. Ok, your psych instructor sounds quite sophisticated! Not! Ugh, there are so many other words that can impart a similar meaning than actually having to use the f bomb, right? People, broaden your vocabulary! In college, I had this weirdo of a psych teacher too, really weird. He spent a good deal of his time talking about his wife's childbirthing experience. Um, ya, I don't need to know how dilated her cervix was or when she lost her mucus plug dude! So bizarre. At least I passed the class!

Love all of the updates Liesa, you certainly have a knack for writing. And the whole "pee before Pooh" makes me chuckle everytime! I suppose that shows my obvious lack of refinement! I'm so glad your DL trip went well, it must have been bittersweet yet filled with so many nostalgic memories for all of you.

For the record, that night at the Poly were you a tad inebriated?? I'm just asking because it appears you went swimming in your clothes.;)

Looking forward to the next installment. :goodvibes

Liesa, how wonderful that your start back at school was mainly good! I think you have encountered stranger human behaviour in Kazakhstan, so I am certain that you will survive odd teachers as well!! :thumbsup2:goodvibes

For all of you who caught it... I did mean DAY 2 :)

Nothing beats Southern Californian weather, and even better than that is being in a Disney Park under the bright Californian sun, soft wind swaying in the palm trees, and wispy clouds floating around in a perfectly blue sky. That’s the way it was when we woke up on Day 2 of our Disney Adventure- Mom, Aunt Cherrie and I. But today was not destined to be a threesome; today would turn into a foursome- but not quite yet.

Getting up and out with a handicapped person takes extraordinary amounts of time, but far less than I thought it might going into the trip. We were up at 7:00 and out the door by 8:30, skipping breakfast. But that wasn’t entirely on purpose. When I booked the room at the Anabella I thought that a breakfast came with our room; sadly, it did not. Slightly disappointed that we wouldn’t get a freebie, but rather happy, on the other hand, that it would get us to the park a WHOLE lot faster, we set out. To Disneyland.

Big Mistake!

Or a rather cruel:

Ok, here’s the scooperoo on that whole debacle… My aunt who is a California resident was able to purchase discounted tix for up to 6 guests with her ID. We ended up saving about $15 per person which in my book equals a pretty decent meal somewhere. So that’s what we did. What we didn’t do was read the fine print (lawyers and advertisers love me). And just to leave you hanging just a tad longer, I’ll leave it at that by saying we waltzed right into Disneyland for breakfast and to wait for my mom and Cherrie’s cousin, Dorothy.

All of us agreed that a light pastry and some tea or coffee sounded like a perfect to start our day, so we headed for here:

The fare was fair; tasty but not “homebaked”.

Disney2011360.jpg

But apparently, it had all been to the Fair?

Disney2011358.jpg

Useful factoid that we learned while waiting a bit later (yes, I carry my coffee cup around for hours…) while talking to some CMs at the Lincoln attraction: At THAT bakery and ONLY that bakery, if you save your receipt and your cup, you are entitled to bottomless coffee! Bank that, ok!

One of the things I LOVE the very most about the vibe on Main Street is the music. I adore ragtime, and listening to it played live is like going to Nirvana! So we headed towards those happy sounds. But just about then, tragedy struck…. Well or at least a quite long, very inconveniencing circumstance that rattled my nerves pretty much. Somehow, while walking I stopped just long enough to take a couple of photos (these, in fact):

Disney2011364.jpg

Disney2011365.jpg

The next thing I know… they are GONE!!! Utterly and totally gone! No purse, no phone, but ticket, no NOTHING except my lovely, lovely coffee in my hand. I searched INSIDE the gates for quite a while for them, and then resigned myself to checking to see if they had gone over to the entrance to CA Adv. to see if Dorothy had arrived, for the last I had heard and understood, we wanted to spend the day over there. <cue the foreshadowing music>

Disney2011375.jpg

I took the long hike over across the wide expanse of the “plaza” and searched some more… and discovered they were nowhere to be found there either. On the way out, I had explained to the CM manning the exit turnstile my dilemma and she assured me she’d let me back in if I could not find them. So I did. I went back in, hunted for them again, all to no avail. I was lost. Or they were lost. Either way, I was screwed. Big time. I felt like that little lost child who’s gotten separated from her parents in a huge crowd, and panic started to arise.

But then, genius struck me (because sometimes genius takes FAR too long to show up). I headed over to Guest Services nearly in tears. By now it had been about half an hour and I was nearly in meltdown mode. But true to most CMs working in Guest Services that were chosen for their calm natures and plentiful smiles, she told me, “No problem! We can just call her from here”. DONE! Except I didn’t have her number memorized. But I remembered my dad’s and luckily he answered (in Kentucky). He was rather befuddled as to why I’d be calling from Disneyland asking for Mom’s number, but gave it to me, likely hanging up and scratching his head.

Ring, Ring…. Ring, Ring. “WHERE are you??!!”

“I’m outside looking for you!”

“We’re sitting here, listening to the most incredible set of Ragtime. Come on in and join us!”

DOH!!!

Slightly irritated, I made my way back through the gate with the nice CM who said she’d let me in if I needed to be and found the bench they had been planted at since I went astray. They had been happily munching while I had been wandering…

Wanna a bite??

Disney2011370.jpg

And enjoying this:

Disney2011367.jpg

Disney2011372.jpg

Just about then, Dorothy calls and says she’s arrived, and asks what kind of ticket to buy: regular or PH. “Oh go ahead and buy a PH, we’ve got all day! We’ll meet you over there in a jiffy.”

We say goodbye to the lovely band playing under shaded umbrellas and scurry over to the entrance to California Adventure. Along the way, we all got a kick in the nostalgia pants when we saw this:

Disney2011377.jpg

With appropriate amounts of oohing, aaahhhing, and wishing we were all decades younger, we recalled the many happy times we arrive at the Katella entrance and start prattling on about which rides we HAD to go on that day, where we were going to eat, and all that other stuff that Disney trips are made of. Imagine our shock when we saw that our beloved sign had been hijacked with this:

Disney2011376.jpg

WHA..!!??

Promos are good and all that- but just don’t mess with the icons!! They are to be venerated not tampered with!

So we get up to the turnstiles, stick in our tickets and are told we don’t have tickets. Ummmm… ok, then what are these. Oh, those have already been used today. The shoes drops. It is then that we realize that we in our haste to save money, we had not gotten PH tix and were stuck with going back to Disneyland yet again today. Worse yet, we had told Dorothy to buy a PH, that was now useless. I know they would likely have traded it, but by now she (and all of us) was just itching to get on with our day and into the park. Any park! Now don’t get me wrong, being in ANY Disney park is not a bad thing, so we made the very most of that day we got together. Stay tuned for the rest of DAY 2’s adventures!!

oh my, that's a rough morning!

Although it sounds like you were the only one who was really lost

:rotfl:

I can easily see that happening with the tickets, what a drag!

One of the things I LOVE the very most about the vibe on Main Street is the music. I adore ragtime, and listening to it played live is like going to Nirvana!

I'm with you. Here's how much of a dweeb I am: my senior year of college I had a lot of time in-between classes on some afternoons, and it was too far to go back to my apartment. So instead I used to go to the library, get some Scott Joplin recordings and the sheet music, and listen while following along. Too bad I can't play piano (although I can play other instruments).

So we headed towards those happy sounds. But just about then, tragedy struck…. Well or at least a quite long, very inconveniencing circumstance that rattled my nerves pretty much. Somehow, while walking I stopped just long enough to take a couple of photos (these, in fact):

You should have just looked at your pictures....isn't that them behind Mary Poppins, heading that-a-way?

I bet you didn't think your nostalgic trip would take you back to when you were 4 years old and lost in a department store!

Awww, I can totally understand the "lost" feeling. There have been a few times where I have lost sight of the family for a few seconds and I get hot by the panic. There was a similar "lost" incident on our recent trip but I haven't gotten to that part yet. ;)

This must be THE LOST Week as Dan and I LOST one of the consumers not once but twice in Cedar Point !!!:scared1:Actually to be more accurate it was MOI!!!!!:rotfl2:He turned up within 15 minutes each time , but I learnt that I have a strong heart as the HEARTATTACK I had each time did not end me up in the ER!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

It's never any fun when you lose your family. Been there done that many times!! I even handed off my 4 year old son to my husband last Christmas to grab something off the stroller and he left our 4 year old behind to follow me!! :scared1: Luckily we didn't go far and a CM actually was just starting to talk to my DS when I realized what happpened. Thank goodness everything was ok. Now my DS has been taught to go up to someone with a name badge or a mommy with kids if he loses us and I test him repeatedly when we are in the parks. Hopefully you still have a magical day even though you are still in Disneyland not DCA!!

I also meant to tell you before you went my family has a stone between the parks (near the Disneyland side). Even though we ended up not getting to meet it would have been fun to see someone else take a picture with our stone.

Great update, but I am sorry that the morning started with so many not so nice incidents! :scared1:

How funny that Glenn spotted your mother and your aunt in your pictures!! :rotfl:

The fare was fair; tasty but not “homebaked”.

Looks good to me...

 Now that is a fantastic tip!

The next thing I know… they are GONE!!! Utterly and totally gone! No purse, no phone, but ticket, no NOTHING except my lovely, lovely coffee in my hand.

Uh oh. Was there a sudden announcement about the Haunted Mansion now having 1,001 souls inside?

But then, genius struck me (because sometimes genius takes FAR too long to show up).

I don't think this has ever happened to me. What does it feel like? :confused3

The shoes drops. It is then that we realize that we in our haste to save money, we had not gotten PH tix and were stuck with going back to Disneyland yet again today. Worse yet, we had told Dorothy to buy a PH, that was now useless.

D'oh! Sorry for all the struggles on this morning. It can only get better from here. Right? :scared1:

You should have just looked at your pictures....isn't that them behind Mary Poppins, heading that-a-way?

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Oh, gosh...that lost feeling is the worst and something I still remember distinctly from childhood. I'm with you on that one. But I'm sure the day turned around. And who doesn't love ragtime? We play music at breakfast at our school every morning (classical and jazz mostly) and every spring, we break out the Scott Joplin and the kids ask why we're listening to carnival music! :lmao:
