Dear All,
For 2 days Ive been wanting to update you on several MAJOR developments on the homefront! Its been an incredible 3 days with emotions running high .. and low . And high again.
Lets take a walk down 7s Last Few Days:
On Tuesday, Mike got a call from the supervisor of the Oregon Forestry Dept. telling him he was being offered a job. For those of you who dont know me (or us) very well, Mike has been looking for a job since we came back to the U.S. in Sept. What many of you probably dont know (cue the Kleenex), is that TODAY, March 31 is the LAST day we were officially employed with our Missions agency. As of April 1st, we would have been unemployed. Are you grasping this? God, in His amazing wa-, in His mysterious, miraculous way- used this time of waiting to build our faith and trust in Him. How could we not be amazed at the plan He had to keep us waiting and trusting until THE VERY LAST DAY to give him a job that perfectly suits his skills and fits our familys needs?
Well, yesterday, Mike was having second thoughts as the first offer was disappointingly low- in fact, not enough to support our needs. He called and expressed his reservations, and told the guy that he needed another day or so to think on things. Later in the day, the guy called back and told Mike that it was quite possible that he could convince his boss to put him up a couple of notches on the pay scale. That encouraged Mike enough to go through day with a new hope and a lighter spring to his step. Men! You have no idea how a bad mood affects the ENTIRE household! (Women, Im sure our demeanor affects our households as well.) For 24 hours we wondered and waited. Mike practiced a day of Wood Cutting Therapy, and it worked wonders. Nothing like the tranquillizing drug of the chain saw!
Just this afternoon, Mr. Supervisor called Mike back saying that he was successful in convincing his bigger boss to pony up the extra $500 of pay; Not as good as what Mike had originally thought hed be getting, but a ton better than the first offer. He accepted the offer as it now stands, and was duly congratulated. After 6 months of faithfully looking for employment, I can proudly say that God answered our, and MANY of your, prayers for providing a job. From the bottom of our hearts THANK YOU!!
With this news comes a flurry of other news on the homefront. Just a couple days ago, I found out that I was granted transfer credit for the pre-requisite for my Chemistry class- the Math that I had already registered for. That means I really dont have to take the math class, but can jump right into Chem. HOWEVER, there are NO openings this term for the CHEM class I need! I have e-mailed the prof for a Saturday class that starts this week but I am 17th on the waitlist. Not a good chance of getting in, but I will be persistent. If I can get into a Chem class THIS term, it will literally cut off an ENTIRE YEAR of schooling for me. If not, I will simply try again in the summer in 10 weeks for the Chem. and take the slow(er) road to completion.
In other news: Some of you saw on FB that I had hurt my ankle pretty badly on Wednesday. I am perhaps the first person on the planet to hurt myself sitting down. Yes, you heard that right; I was sitting down and hurt my ankle. In my over-exuberance of cleaning for our big DISMeet starting today, I was cleaning my floor, doing it by sitting with my feet tucked under my legs. When I went to stand up, I couldnt. I, at first, thought, oops my foots asleep. NOPE! When I tried to walk I had excruciating pain- almost like when I had broken it 3 years ago. I had an x-ray, and had scheduled to see the doc today at 2:00. Went to the airport to get the girls off (and pick up Camille) and by then was feeling pretty good. In fact, now Im walking fine on it. Hmmmm .??? Heres what Im thinking I really, really wanted the house to be clean. Not just clean but company clean, and fresh with flowers and clean towels and, and, and . NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Once more Someone saying, hey!! Its the people, not the place! (Tammie, your room is still not ready.) Another lesson in humility goes down in the books.
Lastly, the DISMeet!!! Camille is here- we enjoyed an entire day together, and already theres been more TR fodder than you could EVER imagine! We took a grand total of 1 picture, but have a couple of bust-a-gut stories for you! Tammie(MAGICFOR2) comes in tomorrow around 2:30 (Im sure that since my ankle is almost perfectly fine now youre room will be ready) and well be waiting. Toni and Terri (oregonmommyof2 and oregondaddyof2) will join us for dinner, as will Cameo818 (Jen), for dinner and Cynthia is still a wild card waiting to see how things are going to shake down for her weekend.
So, there ya are. Lots going on as always. I will be rather busy the next few days with friends and fun, and Im sure ALL of you names, individually or collectively, will come up at some point in our gos er, conversation. I will be able to check in here and there, and will try to respond as always. Until then, carry on!!!
