ABCs of Trip Reporting, Pt. 2-Life Can Be Crappy and Then You Move On (3/7)

I hope that the job situation for Mike will end with something that will work for your family! Wether it's this job or another. :goodvibes But congratulations to him for getting the offer!!!:banana:

I liked your China update. This is one pavillion which I haven't explored that much yet. The shop looks like the typical China stuff which you could buy everywhere here when I was a teenager (well, there are some really expensive things thrown in as well). But I really enjoyed your pictures and I think I need to focus a bit more on that country in the future.

I had the Danish version of rice dream on Christmas eve 1989 - during my exchange year. In Denmark it is the typical Christmas dessert. They also add chopped almonds and one whole almond. The person who gets the whole almond wins a present! :santa:

Browsing on my phone, thus unable to indulge in some funky font-ness. But congrats!

Celebrations are welcome in all sizes and styles. :lmao:

First, CONGRATULATIONS!!!:yay::yay::yay::yay::yay:

I know Mike will know what to do. Sorry the offer was a little disappointing.
I missed so much  I've been so busy, and then I didn't see some of the updates, sorry.:guilty:

He is a very wise man, and I have every confidence he will do what is needed to make sure we are provided for. If he takes this one, it will be very tight, but we are used to that.

So glad your call back was unfounded. God is good.

He is good and that is one more reason to celebrate this weekend!

I love your latest finds! The bell from Germany and the Mask are my favs, but I love that cross from Mexico the best.

They are all so cute and some even useful. :goodvibes

Now, let me tell you about the Rice Cream. My family makes that for holidays, only it is called Glorified Rice. Except we put pineapple chunks in it and Marichino cherries on top. DSIS and I thoroughly enjoyed our Rice Cream at Epcot. :cloud9:

I think I'd love it infused with almond or pineapple too. :cloud9: When most people think of it, I think they automatically think thick, gloppy pudding with rice in it. This was so light and fluffy! Yum!

Thanks for taking time to write, even when you are so busy.
I was telling my hairdresser about your blog, and she says you need to write a book - I would agree, so here's my first pitch for that one. :goodvibes

I really do love to write and tell a story. And I do have quite a few stacked up. haven't done anything on the blog for months; I guess since coming back I've been pretty uninspired to write them out. I really should write about some of the differences in medical care next. That was always a topic that caused both hilarious moments- like when we were told that the cure for hepatitis is eating 2 live lice in a cup of yogurt- and a few times of life or death angst in which prayer was the only (best?) alternative.

Someday I may attempt a book.. but that's down the road.

So looking forward to Friday!!!:woohoo:

OH ME TOO!!!! :yay:

Congrats!!!

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Thanks, Sophia!!

Woo Hoo!!!!!!

Go Mike!!!!!

Congrats to you guys!!!

:cool1: :yay: :dance3: :cheer2: party: :jumping1::jester::rockband:party::hyper: :cloud9::cool1::dance3::yay:

That's quite a party!! We've waited so long, and I sure hope this means no move to Nevada!

I hope that the job situation for Mike will end with something that will work for your family! Wether it's this job or another. :goodvibes But congratulations to him for getting the offer!!!:banana:

I do too, Magdalene!! It's so hard to know sometimes. He actually called the boss back early this AM and told him he wants a day or so to think on it. Meantime, he wants to hear back from HR about bennies. I'm pretty sure he'll take it in the end, but Mike is the kind of guy who really must completely look at any situation and make a decision based on as much info as possible. Which drives me nuts at times, as I'm more of an emotional decision maker. Ha!

I do know waht you mean. That's why I've in the past steered clear of the shop and stuck to the museum and show. A few years ago, we hit the pre-show to the movie and thoroughly enjoyed the music of a traditional Chinese zither player. It was absolultely beautiful and well worth our time in that Pavilion. Of course, my daughters would say that seeing Mulan and Mushu was all worth it. ;)

WOW! That also sound dreamy! I think a slight hint of almond would go perfectly in that dish! We play a similar game with birthday cake. We wash, then bake coins into the cake and the kids get to keep the money.

Hey Liesa,

Been traveling for a few days and trying desperately to catch up with everyone's TR's. Looks like you did a great job shopping your way through WS, and I'm sorry the headache forced you to cut it short. But thanks for the tour!

Congrats! to Mike for the job offer! That's great news. I can definitely relate to the part about state employee salaries being disappointing, no matter what the media reports... :rolleyes1 Anyway, I hope you guys are able to figure things out.

I'm a little late but didn't have time to comment anything at work. But congratulations to Mike! Even if he might not take the job, from my experience in job hunting it gives definitely a big boost to get an offer!

I saw your new TR title in my inbox from the email notification and rushed right over here to join in the PAAAAAAAAAAARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!

Hey Liesa,

Yeah, I knew you were on the road. I heard from a little man-bird that you had a Meet.... Looked for a pic on FB, but couldn't find it. My touring haiatus was short-lived.... More sometime later today.

I wish he was happier about it! But seriously, the salary offered is really only something we can BARELY live on. It will pay the bills and that's about it- no vacays, no braces for the kids, no dinners out. UGH! The media does not realize (or report) that although the benefits are good, the pay is FAR below what the private sector is paying. He worked with the State for 12 years before we left so know the gig. Stable, but low paying.

I'm a little late but didn't have time to comment anything at work. But congratulations to Mike! Even if he might not take the job, from my experience in job hunting it gives definitely a big boost to get an offer!

I was hoping you'd make it out soon!!! And you're just in time. Later today I'm going to put up another update, AND

START A NEW GAME!!!!!!! You heard it here first!:yay::banana:

I saw your new TR title in my inbox from the email notification and rushed right over here to join in the PAAAAAAAAAAARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!

THANKS, Brook!! Although exciting, it is not perfect. I suppose in this market though, the perfect job is secondary.

I do too, Magdalene!! It's so hard to know sometimes. He actually called the boss back early this AM and told him he wants a day or so to think on it. Which drives me nuts at times, as I'm more of an emotional decision maker. Ha!

I guess everyone needs to make decisions the way that is best for them. I used to be very much like Mike and still found it difficult to decide. Since I now have a profession where making decisions is my every day job, I learned to be much better at it. I never would manage my work load if I mulled over every problem for weeks. And I have learned to be a bit more driven by my gut and less only by my head with regard to personal decisions as well. At least when ordering ice cream sundaes... :rolleyes1

I hope that at least the benefits are a bit better for the job!

I do know waht you mean. That's why I've in the past steered clear of the shop and stuck to the museum and show. Oh, thanks for the recommendations! That sounds wonderful!

WOW! That also sound dreamy! I think a slight hint of almond would go perfectly in that dish! We play a similar game with birthday cake. We wash, then bake coins into the cake and the kids get to keep the money.

Rosie would be the expert, but I think the English put a six-pence (or a shilling?? I think it is one of their old-fashioned non-decimal money) into the Christmas pudding. Must be a very old tradition. :goodvibes

All good things must come to an end, and my solo day at EPCOT was over, or so I thought. Just before hitting Mexico, despite having been somewhat revived by lattes original plan. Opportunities to spend every open minute of park time touring don’t come around very often, and I had every intention of maxing them out. But my head has a mind of its own. (No, really, it does!) And despite every effort to quell its growing protestations, it was clear I had to spend some time horizontal in a cool, dark, place. Also, I was out of phone minutes and wanted to load more up, AND, I was looking rather like a pack mule with my ¾ dozen packages I was toting around. It wasn’t until late in the game that I remembered package drop off services. Besides that, my camera lost its battery and there was no point in staying. After all, this was a TR in the making. Did I mention that I was starting to get blisters? Bank that…

My last receipt said 6:23 PM, and I know I headed straight out to a bus. My recall of bus wait times is rather dim, so I’ll guess I didn’t have to wait long. Did I do a private little sing-along on the bus to happy and groovy 70’s and 80’s tunes? Bet on it! I really wanted to go to Funky Town, but my body was saying, “No, please go to Bunkhouse Town”. I have absolutely ZERO idea what I did from approximately 6:45 until about 8:45 or so. I did grab a lovely photo from our balcony area:

LiesaDay1377.jpg

And remembered, miraculously, to grab my key before doing so.

I can only assume I slept, plugged in all necessary equipment, took off my shoes and assessed the growing damage, and, gulp, do I dare confess?? Yes, a TR must bare all- (NO, not that again!)

I called home. Again.

I pulled the covers of shame over my head and had a regeneration cycle that apparently was enough to enable another round of fun. According to photo properties data, I also took a little walk to visit a friend of a friend. Jordan, this one is for you! If you ever come around to read, Dee says a very big hello, and she was delighted to have you send a greeting to her through me.

LiesaDay1378.jpg

For those of you who don’t know, Dee works at the Petals Pool Bar at the POP, and Jordan has gotten to know her a bit. She is so friendly, and obviously loves her job an awful lot.

Around 8:45, I went right back out with a charged POC, and a fresh perspective. I had zero intentions of watching Illuminations, but in fact, did catch a rather blurry glimpse of it through the trees in the distance after I arrived back at Future World. Glad to have the crowds “over there”, and the entirety of FW almost completely to myself, I was free to explore un-elbowed and with no waits. AT. ALL! It was a beauteous thing, it was.

I first hit up the Seas Pavilion. With no real agenda other than finding a couple of hidden Mickeys,

LiesaDay1389.jpg

LiesaDay1391.jpg

Watching the fish

REAL:

LiesaDay1390.jpg

LiesaDay1393.jpg

And otherwise:

LiesaDay1379.jpg

OH, and one more thing. I wanted to re-experience getting my hand nearly bitten off by a wild animal too.

Yup. I looked pretty much just like that when my dog sunk her rotten teeth into my flesh last year. Still hurts sometimes. Brucey was nearly successful, but I managed to get my hand out just in time.

LiesaDay1385.jpg

Ok, not really. I was trying to just get a good picture of me pretending to get my hand bit off by a shark. I’m not sure what was more scary--- the only other FW guest NOT watching Illuminations getting into my picture:

LiesaDay1386.jpg

Or, the real thing:

LiesaDay1387.jpg

After acting like a complete idiot at the Seas, it was time to visit another Pavilion and act like a complete idiot there.

Seriously people, WHO actually voluntarily rides Imagination twice, no 3 times, in a row, without getting off so they can get better pictures? And yes, I used my flash. I was the only one within about 2 Pavilions of Figment’s Lair. It too, was glorious.

LiesaDay1399.jpg

Am I the only one who thinks this is funny?

LiesaDay1395.jpg

Yeah, baby, I hit the “jackpot”!!!

LiesaDay1400.jpg

Did you know the Figment Ride has 3 Hidden Mickeys?? (When you’re the only one in a Pavilion, the CMs practically beg you to listen to all the secrets they have of such stuff.) I got GREAT photos of 2 of them. The third is WAY too hard to get a picture of, unless your ride vehicle (which of course, your arms and legs should always be inside of) is completely stopped, or you have a really slick camera that can find micro objects while moving. Mine can’t. Heck, mine can’t even photograph a barn door standing still.

LiesaDay1405.jpg

LiesaDay1404.jpg

I had already completely toured The Land about as thoroughly as anyone can earlier in the day (remember the Seedy Tour?), so I skipped that. Where to next? The Fountain is on the way “over there”, so I stopped. AND hallelujah! The Fountain played “MY SONG”!! The one that kept me jogging when I really didn’t want to. The song, that makes me smile every time I hear it. I don’t know the name of it, but it is a great orchestral piece that has some amazing brass parts in it. I stood and watched the entire show, with a gigantic grin plastered all over my silly face, and made war with my camera settings until I got about 4 shots worth posting (and a whole bunch more that aren’t). I’ll throw 5 at ya¸ since you won’t be able to tell which ones I had picked out as worthy to post- since they are all pretty bad.

LiesaDay1410.jpg

LiesaDay1413.jpg

LiesaDay1412.jpg

LiesaDay1411.jpg

LiesaDay1408.jpg

Just around the corner and down aways, sort of thatawayish, I made my way to Mission:Space. It was late, and I had made tentative peace with my head, so did not tempt fate by riding. But, I was seeking out something that turned out to be elusive after an insane amount of time hunting for. Many months ago, I ran across a TR that had a family standing in front of the moon model. I could clearly see a Hidden Donald, and even sent it to Steve Barrett who runs the official HM site. No one could confirm it, and now I know why. It just isn’t there- perhaps Figment had made his way over there and left a phantom sighting just for me. Who knows? But I had to try. Instead I got the one HM I know really is there:

LiesaDay1415.jpg

The last Pavilion that was open for EMH (the park was open until midnight) was TT, and I thought I may as well end my evening with a ride in the Fast Lane. I had had nothing to drink for hours (I’m still not even sure I ever did…) so why not? But first the HM in the queue:

LiesaDay1423.jpg

Obviously, I was hitting the wall, as I look thoroughly bored with the whole gig.

LiesaDay1425.jpg

There are two HMs in the corrosion room and I managed to get the one on my side of the car. Cool Beans!! This one was really a treasure to capture, and one I had been looking forward to for a long time to get.

LiesaDay1424.jpg

On the way out, I thought I’d feel what it is like to sit in a new car. Haven’t done that in a while. Like since I was a spoiled teen and my parents bought me a Mazda 626 for graduation. After that I got married and life became real. The guy who took my pictures was highly amused, and I ended up taking some of him and his son in turn.

LiesaDay1428.jpg

After that, there was really nothing else to do. I was completely worn out, and by this time really ready to be done for the day. I had gone on every attraction in FW at some point during the day except Ellen (don’t mind missing that one) and M:S and had visited every country in WS except Canada. Not bad.

I made the long, long journey out to the bus area, and out of curiosity stopped at the bus manager’s desk to inquire. My question: Is this really the fastest way home?? I think I already knew the answer, but wanted to make double sure that perhaps getting a monorail to the TTC and a bus from there might not be faster than walking to Mongolia for the POP bus. He was super nice, and I think enjoyed the diversion of an actual guest’s Face to Face interaction. He told me he knew how stinking far it is, and to my incredible surprise and delight, he pulled out 2 bus pins for trading!!!!! I was stunned. I have never been interested in pins (sorry, Tracy!) because I know it is undoubtedly an addictive and expensive habit that I didn’t want to start. But now I had not only one but 2- one to keep, one to trade. Not fancy ones, not flashy, just ordinary WDW bus pins. But I was a proud owner now and slapped them on my lanyard. Which I completely forgot to show you earlier! Of course, I don’t have either of those pins anymore, because just as I suspected, pin trading is more addictive then meth. I now get “it”. I did not come home with $3,000 worth of pins, but have a few more than I landed at MCO with.

Skipping along to the far reaches of the Outer Mongolia bus stop, I loaded up after a 10 minute wait and was back to the POP by 11:30.

I’ll bet you’re wondering what I got for dinner that night. The laaaaaaaaaaarge lunch I had at R&C held me over for a very loooooooooong time, and then the Rice Cream and latte carried me for quite a lot longer. It was now 11:30 and I was getting a bit hungry again. I was only in the mood for something small and cheap, so I hit up the Food Court. Warning! Another MORONIC MOMENT APPROACHING!

When I had checked in, or perhaps sometime this day, I had decided after all to get charging privies put on my one card (I had 2, one for park tickets and one for the room and everything else- I don’t know why they couldn’t combine them, but was told no when I asked.). When they made that switch they cancelled the first one issued at check-in (if this is highly confusing to you, please don’t worry, it is still quite highly confusing to your authoress!). I don’t have any idea WHY I would have only had the cancelled one with me, but when I went up to pay for my soft breadsticks and pizza sauce (think Ragu) dinner, I presented my card and was promptly told that it was “no good”. At this point, I had NO idea what the heck was going on, and more than slightly red-faced left with my meal promising like a broken record to come back and pay. I was absolutely mortified! I dashed to my room, chatted with Mary, who was downloading photos onto her laptop, and explained what was going on- which at that point was only that I thought I had just did a dine and dash. We wondered aloud how often that must happen. Wanting to make things right, I went over to Guest Services and told my sob story and confessed that I had indeed just eaten a free meal at Disney.

It was explained that I was trying to use my cancelled card and that I’d need to use the new one. Back up to the room I went once more to get the other REAL card, (and to quickly toss the cancelled one), and right back out to finally pay for my meal. By this point it was midnight and time to pass out in bed. Which is finally exactly what I did. Phew! What a day!

And there ends DAY 2 of the Strangers Invasion Trip. At least Liesa’s part of it. Mary? What did that CM do for Baker and his family? Enquiring minds want to know!

I thought I pulled some long days!!!! You are so right that we need to go together. :rotfl:

When I first read that It was 11:30 and you were going to head to the food court and a moronic moment was coming up, I thought the Food court would just be closed and you would have to either raid the overpriced snack machine or go to bed hungry- A Bow Bow Bow. :lmao:

Congratulations to your DH on the new job.

Love the update. Your view at Pop! is beautiful. :blush:Your food court experience sounds like something that would happen to me. I will be paying closer attention to your time spent at the resort, we now have a reservation there. DH's Brother is taking the entire family on vacation, all 16 of us!

First off Liesa, congratulations to your DH on the job!!! I hope it works out and the salary isn't a drawback.

Woo-hoo, another update!!:woohoo:

Oooh, an empty FW! What bliss! Love the HM you captured at the Seas.

Hey, you might have a case against Disney, seeing as how Bruce ate half your arm and all...:rolleyes1

Figment is a nostalgic Disney figure for me...we went to Epcot the year after it opened and my dad bought me a Figment! Who the heck knows where it is now, darn it.:headache: But I loved that purple dragon! However, my family doesn't seem as enamoured with him as I was. We've only done the ride there once, once. I'm planning to remedy that next trip and will probably take delight in the absolute torture it will be for others in my party.

Love this fountain pic, it's gorgeous!
LiesaDay1413.jpg

This pic is so fun! You look totally bored! Actually, you and that Goofy in the corner look similar! J/K! I always take horrible TT photos, everytime.:sad2: I either look bored or freakishly excited.
LiesaDay1425.jpg

This photo is better! And nice whip (I learned that terminology from Tim though it pertains to a car,not a Crapistan whip;)).
LiesaDay1428.jpg

Ok, let me get this straight...you purchased a meal without paying for it? Is that kinda like getting a free mug when you have a perfectly good one sitting back in your room?? I'm noticing a trend here Liesa:eek:. Does kleptomania run in your family by chance?;)

Wow, that was a Majorly long day. You went and went and went! But you saw just about everything there is to see at Epcot.

I think that's great that your song was playing at the fountains. That was no coincidence.

And you were a Hidden-Mickey-Finding-Fiend in this chapter!

Wow! You certainly saw and did a LOT! Much more than I could ever hope to accomplish in a single day. And your pictures of the fountain were great. I love that fountain.

How cool that "your song" came and you had time to stop and watch the fountain. That was one of my goals in November when we went. It seems like I would come rolling up just as it was ending. But I spent so much time at Epcot that trip that I think I did finally see the whole show. There's something about water. I could sit and watch the jumping water over by Imagination forever too. :confused3

See!!? I totally think so too!

Yeah, that would have been a major bummer, but not life threatening. I wasn't all that super hungry, and could have just slept without- and hey, I always had those yogurts destined for a bake in the car to eat. :lmao:

Congratulations to your DH on the new job.

Thanks!! Things are looking up again... I'm going to do a post tonight on life issues... so more on this down lower.

We had an AMAZING view! I LOVED our room in the 50s, and would stay there again in a heartbeat! It was super quiet on the backside facing the lake, and we were relatively close to the elevator, so no long walks either.

I so can't even fathom someone taking (and paying for??!!!) 16 people to stat at Disney!!! That's one generous BIL right there! WOW!! Does he have any boys about 20 or so?? I have 2 daughters... :rolleyes1

First off Liesa, congratulations to your DH on the job!!! I hope it works out and the salary isn't a drawback.

Thanks, Molly!! This really gives us the freedom we need to stay in the area to be near Mike's aging dad, keep Zach in the school district with his IEP, buy this lovely house, let the girls stay at their charter school that gives them free college credit, and a whole slew of other things we had going here. They are starting to be willing to negotiate a bit, so there is hope that it won't be quite as bad as it was looking on the first day.

Woo-hoo, another update!!:woohoo:

I know... how exciting. :lmao:

Oooh, an empty FW! What bliss! Love the HM you captured at the Seas.

Those were 2 separate ones. I htink the ones in the tanks may actually move around from month to month. Not sure on that, but I did find 2, and there are likely more.

Hey, you might have a case against Disney, seeing as how Bruce ate half your arm and all...:rolleyes1

There are ferocious beasts at every turn in Disney; it's amazing they don't get lawsuits all the time - oh wait! They do!! :lmao:

Figment is a nostalgic Disney figure for me...we went to Epcot the year after it opened and my dad bought me a Figment! It is for us too. On our trip in 2008, Anara fell absolutely lin love with Figgy (that's what she still calls him) and still sleeps with him every night. I also ended up buying her a keychain this trip, but not til later in the trip. We all love taht ride, possibly because it is just so old-school Disney. The classic dark ride.

Love this fountain pic, it's gorgeous!
LiesaDay1413.jpg

It was such a struggle to get any of them that turned out. I was lucky to get those 5 that turned out a little.

This pic is so fun! You look totally bored! Actually, you and that Goofy in the corner look similar! J/K! I always take horrible TT photos, everytime.:sad2: I either look bored or freakishly excited.
LiesaDay1425.jpg

I have no idea where the camera for that ride even is... apparently, not in a very exciting place on the attraction. :rotfl2: And by now, I was sooooooo tired. Nothing was that "fresh in the morning exciting" by then.

This photo is better! And nice whip (I learned that terminology from Tim though it pertains to a car,not a Crapistan whip;)).
LiesaDay1428.jpg

I've not heard that before. Hmmm..... I wonder if Tim keeps his whip in his whip?

Ok, let me get this straight...you purchased a meal without paying for it? Is that kinda like getting a free mug when you have a perfectly good one sitting back in your room?? I'm noticing a trend here Liesa:eek:. Does kleptomania run in your family by chance?;)

:lmao::lmao: yeah, kinda like that! You've got it straight. I stole the mug, tried to give it back and couldn't, I stole the meal, and got away with it. Luckily, for them, I am pretty honest, and did pay for it. Too bad they weren't closed when I got back there.

Wow, that was a Majorly long day. You went and went and went! But you saw just about everything there is to see at Epcot.

I think that's great that your song was playing at the fountains. That was no coincidence.

And you were a Hidden-Mickey-Finding-Fiend in this chapter!

It was MAJORLY LONG! :faint: I was like the Energizer Bunny! And you're right, there wasn't must left of EPCOT to pound out. It was a successful day in the end.

I believe you are right. Things like that are seldom left to chance. If you saw me getting teary, I'm sure it was from ummm... the camera setting struggles.. yeah, that's it.

I can't believe how many of those buggers I found! When you READ The Hidden Mickey Book for fun, it's amazing how easy they are to find! :thumbsup2 I'm not saying yet if we are up to 15, but that's the magic number that was on:

MASTER PREDICTOR!!! Remember that question??? Did I find at least 15??

Hmmm... who will win that round??

I guess everyone needs to make decisions the way that is best for them. I used to be very much like Mike and still found it difficult to decide. Since I now have a profession where making decisions is my every day job, I learned to be much better at it. I never would manage my work load if I mulled over every problem for weeks. And I have learned to be a bit more driven by my gut and less only by my head with regard to personal decisions as well. At least when ordering ice cream sundaes... :rolleyes1

Rosie would be the expert, but I think the English put a six-pence (or a shilling?? I think it is one of their old-fashioned non-decimal money) into the Christmas pudding. Must be a very old tradition. :goodvibes

Yes, I can see where the process (the LONG method) would seriously handicap one in the workplace that needs quick decisions and lots of them. Keep that ice cream choice simple, always choose chocolate. Then the decision (at least the most important one) needs to be waht to put on top! :goodvibes

Ok, Rosie!! Can you give us a history lesson on Christmas pudding?? And the 6 pence inside?

Wow! You certainly saw and did a LOT! Much more than I could ever hope to accomplish in a single day. And your pictures of the fountain were great. I love that fountain.

It can realistically only be done like this solo. My family would never make it even all the way around!! The Fountain is really such a magical show! The amount of technology must be astronomical!

:confused3

I've been many times where it's been like that too. You either just miss it, or have to be somewhere else when it starts. This time it was just so magical to have time to stand and watch the WHOLE thing, and soak it all in. Ahhh...:cloud9:

You lok very comfortable in that yellow car!!!!! Great update Liessa !!

It was a sweet sit, Rosie! Wish they'd let us take them out for a spin.
