AAA or WDW discounts/ cancellation etc

Just got the ok from hubby to officially start planning! I hurt my back falling down stairs a week before our first trip to the world thus past spring. Am still in PT. need something to look forward to and would love to experience the world without pain so here are my questions.
1. Room only discounts: are these usually offered as part of a package through WDW? Do they ever have just a room only discount you can get without booking a package?
2 what are the typical AAA discounts? We are interested in PORS but need a good discount. We are not currently members of AAA.
3. What are the cancellation policies for room only and packages? In terms of being refunded( in case my back is not better by May).
4. is this correct: $200 owed at booking and then must pay in full 45 days prior to trip for packages and room only reservations? Thought I read room only was different?

I booked this year for the first time through AAA(member). I was pleasantly surprised that their prices compared to Disney site, website agents to be at least 15%+ lower. Membership is not much - maybe $35.

I do have a question about how a pin number for room discount works with what we got from AAA. If the price directly from Disney was, for example only, $200 and the price was $170 from AAA, with a 25% pin from Disney(if one were lucky enough to get it) what would I save? And would I be able to keep my reservations already made through AAA?

We stayed at Poly last year and I did the planning for 11 of us. The adults thanked me for planning and how well it went. If they only knew how much time, they would think I was nutty. Well.....

Room only discounts: There can be a discount on the room rate. It can be booked as a room only reservation or it can be applied to the room portion of a package. For example, we currently have a package booked with a discount on the room.

Cancellation policies: For a package you can make any changes to the res or completely cancel it up to 45 days before arrival with no penalty. After that you lose the $200 deposit if you cancel. Modifications can be made, but there may be a change penalty especially if the total price drops. For room only reservations, I'm not sure of the exact deadline, but it's much closer to check in date - somewhere around 5? days.

Deposits: Package deposit is $200 with the balance due 45 days before check in date. Room only deposit is the first night's cost and the balance is due on check in.

used the AAA discount a couple of times. The savings was about 11% one time and 15% the other. I think it varies by resort level and time of year. You have to call Disney to get the rate - unless you are looking to stay at the Swan or Dolphin.

There are room only discounts. That's what we usually get. There is one now for dates through the end of the year. Last year there was a room only discount that included May that was released in early January.

Sometimes you can convert a room only reservation to a discount offer. It depends on how many offers they have set aside for that resort and how many have been booked.

We received a pin for our last trip but pin activity is pretty sparse right now for us.

Thank you! Thank you!!!! I hope we can get a room I only discount this spring! That would be perfect! I was under the impression if you got a room only discount that you were obligated to get park tickets directly from Disney. I am so happy to be wrong! Just read up on mouse savers too ! I pray I am healed so I can enjoy Disney with my son and hubby pain free!

We lock in on any discount we can get, then wait to try to improve. For us, it's usually AAA we start with and then look for more, including AP as it gets closer. Seems like they're harder to predict than they used to be so any discount we get makes us real happy!

For Beach Club AAA we have been lucky enough to get 20%, sometime less, but that's makes a BIG difference to us!
