AAA 09' rate / Watch thread

If you go to the AAA website, there is 2009 package info up. Here is what it says about the quick service dining plan.

Magic Your Way Package Plus Quick Service Dining

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Magic Your Way Package Plus Quick Service Dining includes Disney Resort accommodations, a Magic Your Way Base Ticket and a Disney Quick Service Dining Plan that offers 2 Quick Service meals, 2 Snacks (select dining locations) per person per night of the package stay, plus 1 Resort Refillable Mug per person, per package. With this package, guests can save up to 20% per adult on dining. AAA Disney Magic Moments® Savings may be available for AAA/CAA members on this package. This package includes special AAA Vacations® Benefits.

I know this is being debated elsewhere, but I can't resist. This quick service plan is a ripoff. You can save up to 20%? So what that means is if you ordered the most expensive counter service for lunch and dinner, and the most expensive snacks twice a day, you'd only pay 20% more. Personally, I wouldn't be ordering the most expensive thing each time, I can't imagine who would. And if you use one of these for breakfast, you're losing right there, becasue breakfast is always cheaper.

I think its pretty obvious that this is what they'll be giving out for free this year when they have their promotions. It will save them money and it will open up full service tables to walk-ins. Its a win-win for Disney and I think it is brilliant. And if they want to give it to me for free, I'll take it (but I doubt I'd give up my AAA discount to get it). So in that regard, it makes sense for Disney. But I bet the majority of people that pay for this plan won't even break even.

I agree, you aren't saving tons of money on this plan, but I don't think we will lose money in my family's case. It's just a way to pre-pay for meals out of convenience. I'm trying to decide between the new quick service or the original meal plan.:confused3

Take a look at the menus. The average breakfast is about $6. The average lunch or dinner is abour $7 or $8. You get a dessert with dinner, so there's an extra $4. So you're up to $18, maybe $20 with tax. Throw in two "snacks" and maybe you're up to $25 or $26. But this plan costs $29.99 per day. I'm telling you if you use this for breakfast, you'll definately lose money. If you use it for lunch and dinner, you could still lose money, maybe you'll break even, or if you go for the most expensive things each time, you could come out ahead. But this plan just isn't worth buying.

You're assuming, however, that the prices OOP will not increase in 2009. If they increase 5% or so, the QS meal plan may become worth it.

Just a question for everyone who DID get the AAA rate and received their new confirmation e-mail.....does your res. note the rate is using the AAA discount?

Our new ressie has the AAA discount applied but it doesn't actually say AAA on it, does that make sense? Is it supposed to note it?

When I called to apply our AAA discount for stay at POP in March, the rate changed from $119 to $112.50/night. Isn't that odd? Not even a 10% discount. The CM thought it was odd too, and said that the 2009 rates were coming out tomorrow and that the price may change (guess it could go higher??). She said I could call tomorrow to check. Anyone else have a similiar situation?

My situation is identical to yours. I had already booked POP in March with a rate of $119.00. When I called to apply the AAA rate, I was a little disappointed that it had only gone down to $112.50.
When I checked the new rates on the official website, I noticed that the standard rate is now up to $125.00. That means the AAA discount is 10%.
I was surprised the rates jumped up as they did. I guess Disney isn't worried too much about the economy having an effect on travel.

Thanks for the info MelissaM; I hadn't thought to check the official website. Well, I guess we can each get a Mickey bar for the $30 we saved...:goodvibes

Even if prices go up 10%, I think the average person will have a hard time getting to $30 for the day. But I'm just complaining about this as an excuse to complain abou the dining plans in general. I'm not sure what all the suber deluxe plans offer, but I know that their most common plans only offer two meals per day. Most people I know eat three meals per day.

They almost hit the mark here. What they should offer for $29.99 is unlimited counter service food. Make it like an all-inclusive thing.

I think it depends on how guests use this new plan...There was an example similar to this on another thread & I found it helpful. I just went to view menus for things I would order. (they are not the most expensive items, just items I would normally order)

Breakfast- (snack #1)If you got a cinnamon roll or something like that its about $3.50
You also get a refillable mug, so drink is included.

lunch-Chicken Wrap - served chilled with seasoned chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese tossed with Pecos house dressing, served with your choice of fries or apple slices $7.59
drink - Coke $2.09
dessert- Peanut Butter Brownie Mousse - $3.59

dinner- 1/2 Rotisserie Chicken - with Mashed Potatoes and a seasonal vegetable $9.09
drink - Coke $2.09
dessert-Carrot Cake $3.59

(snack #2)Pineapple Float - pineapple Dole Whip with pineapple juice $3.99

total= $35.53 PLUS tax, and that includes the refillable mug.

I also have kind of a similar experience. I made a reservation for value season at POP century with AAA discount. I "only" got a 15% discount when I should get 20%. But 15% isn't bad at all and I am very happy to finally have the rooms I wanted for a reasonable price .

I'm looking at my confirmation email. No mention of AAA rate, but the $$$ numbers are correct so that's all I care about! :thumbsup2 (and I did give the CM my AAA # when I booked this morning so it should be on file, but she reminded me to show the card at check-in.)

Didn't even get a new confirmation e-mail, but my vacation ressie on the Disney website is changed with the discount. Nothing is mentioned about AAA. I called Disney again (and wouldn't you know it, got the same CM I had originally.....so I hung up and called again...after saying I'm sorry, I called the wrong number.......how dumb of me...how would I get through all the prompts without knowing I dialed the wrong number......hehehe:rotfl2: :confused3 ). Called back again and got a different CM and asked her if a AAA discount was listed on the ressie and she said yes.:thumbsup2

cheerful chickadee: On the bottom of my confirmation email under Resort Information it says

"AAA Membership card required at check-in for discount"

Colleen

(love your screen name chickadees are my favorite birds!)

This may be a dumb question, but are there a certain number of rooms that they allow to be used for the AAA discount? We want to book a trip in December 2009 and I was wondering if I'd better hurry if i want that discount.

Thanks!

Yep, each resort only has a limited number of AAA discount rooms. Book them as soon as you can.

I just made my room only reservation for 2009 this morning.

AKL from 11/29/09-12/6/09 Club level, savannah view. Without AAA-$2,714.00 (tax included).

With AAA -$2,041.00 (tax included). A savings of practically $700! Even the reservation specialist said that the discount is usually only 10%, so that was a great deal!

ok this is silly. i used to have AAA and then i just didn't renew it. i'm going to be joining again soon. do these discounts apply to everyone as long as they have a AAA memebership?
also, we'll be staying april 19th - 25th 2009 in a value resort. do you know what kind of discount i could get?

thanks!

Probably 15% off - that's what you got off a value during "regular" season in 2008.
