AA carry-on Baggage rule

We are flying American Airlines. Their website, until recently, stated that the carry-on bag could be no larger than 45" when measured length x width x height. So we bought the Under Armour brand of duffle bags to use for our carry-ons. These bags are 23" long x 10"wide x 12"tall (45" total).
Today I went to AA's website and noticed that NOW they are also listing the MAXIMUM dimensions as being 22" long x 14"wide x 9"tall. Does this mean we can no longer use the bags we've already purchased just because the dimensions are off...they are still 45" total???

If the duffle is soft-sided, you should be fine.

Even if it is a wheeled duffle with more structure, you may also be fine. Here are the measurements for the dreaded AA sizer that your bag must fit into:

The inside dimensions of the gray metal sizers are:

Length: 23 1/4" (59 cm) to outer edge of open (right) end
Depth: 9 7/8" (25 cm)
Width (sizer height): 13 1/2" (34 cm) to bottom of crossbar / 14 1/2" (37 cm) to top of crossbar

There is some belief that the first 2 measurements may actually be about 1/8" to 1/4" larger than stated.

In my experience, AA does not size every bag but instead concentrates on those that look overpacked or too large. Soft-side bags and those that don't look like typical rollaboard are more likely to get a pass. We routinely carry a rolling bag that is 10.5" deep due to the wheels and have never been sized. If your duffle bags aren't filled to maximum capacity and can be squished a bit to fit in the overhead bin you are fine. Don't give it another thought.
