A Yakker's Paradise with Recipes (Welcome All!!)

Tiger - Club Libby Lu is a new experience for "tween" girls where the girls get to dress up, have their hair and makeup done and be a princess, rock star, etc. for the day. They have parties where all the girls have their "makeover" and then they take them all to the front of the store and teach them the Libby Lu dance. It is the cutest thing ever and very girly! Check out their website: Club Libby Lu

That sounds SOOOOOOOOO cool!!! I'll join your troop, even if I am too big :smooth: . I had to quit because our leader quit and my mom didn't have the training to carry on. :sad2: :sad2: Thanks!

Shauna, I'm sorry you had to deal with rotten people today. Things like that drive me up the wall. I hope things pick up for you and that you have a terrific rest of the day!!!

You sound like you are doing pretty well on your plan and the birthday dinner sounded so good! At least dinners like that are few and far between.

Welcome to the world of volunteering. It does not matter what organization you are in, it is always the adults that make things frustrating. Kids are great, the work you do for others are great, but sooner or later you unfortunately have to deal with those who just aren't as committed or have lost focus on what volunteering is all about. On days like that ALWAYS step back, find a way to relax and let go of the negatives. Good people are depending on you and the negative ones eventually work themselves out. Enough of my soap box.

The Piggly Wiggly game sounds like fun (thanks for the tip Tiger). When you are ready for all to be quiet at the sleepover, pop in a movie, have them get in bed, and turn down the volume so they have to be quiet in order to hear. Eventually they fall asleep. Games, crafts, kapers......sounds like you have a good handle on things. Oh and the SUM position will be as great as you make it.

Keep up the good work. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

You're welcome!!! Hope you are having a better day. Relax and remember, tomorrow's Friday. Anyone up for a Friday Eve Fever party?

I only have 2 seconds to post since I'm totally busy prepping for tonight's Girl Scout sleepover. WI was today and I am down 1.4 lbs. I'm pleased with the loss but frustrated with how slow I seem to be losing. I really need to average about 8 lbs. a month to hit my WDW trip goal. Overall, even though it seems to be going slowly, I'm happy that there is less of me than there was before!!

Sorry I didn't have time to say hi to everyone. I'll catch you all tomorrow or Monday depending on how much/little sleep I get tonight with my Girl Scouts!

You're FINE!! Have fun at your sleepover!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you have fun and get some sleep!

Congrats on the 1.5lbs lost! :cheer2:

Don't worry about things going a little slow. You are building a lifestyle that you can live with in order to maintain once you reach your goal and that may take some time. In the end, that is more important than the actual weight loss. Don't be too hard on yourself or too tied to a number. Be flexible. Sometimes the scale looks as if you weigh more than you would like, but the clothes fit better and you can get into smaller sizes.

Hope you had fun at the sleep over. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Go Shauna!!!!!!!!!! You're doing fine. How was the "sleep is over"? :rotfl2:

YAY Shauna!!! 1.4 pounds loss...that's great!! It may be slow (I'm typically a slow loser, so 2 pounds in a week is amazing for me...usually it's around .5-1lb), but you're getting healthy and that's the best part!!

I hope your sleepover went well! :)

Hello All! I'm still alive and ready to say hi to all of my wonderful visitors!

Tiger - I'm so sorry your troop leader quit. I try very hard to be a good troop leader and do things that my girls will enjoy. The Friday Eve Fever party sounded like fun but I was swamped with the sleep-over. Details for that will be posted a little later. Thanks for your encouragement on my WI. I was just a little bummed because it didn't seem like much of a loss but I've gotten over it. :flower:

Hi there mking! Welcome to my journal! May I call you Mary? It's easier than Mking. The rotten people are hopefully all gone so hopefully this week should be better. One more question: Who's in your sig pic? And I am happy that I am getting healthy. I don't know why I was being goofy.

Lesli - I love being a volunteer coordinator and I love the organization I work with. The only problem is that I sometimes deal with flaky people. It's hard for me because I try so hard to always keep my word and do what I say I will and then I have to be nice to people who call (or just don't show up) and flake on me. I've not had any problems with my girls or their parents (knock on wood). Thanks for the encouragement about my loss. I have noticed quite a difference in terms of clothing sizes, etc. so I feel good. I think I just fell into the trap of it being really easy to fall prey to "The Number".

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Be back in a few!
Hi there! Glad to see you're back!!! Hope it was fun. :flower: Glad you're feeling lower (clothing sizes that is). There's wiggle room in my waistband now!
Well, I survived the sleepover. I'm still not sure how but it seems like everyone had fun and got some sleep and they left with more stuff than they arrived with and we hopefully learned a few things so I think it was all good.
I had 2 girls that were an hour late which is no surprise but it did get things off to a bumpy start. The annoying thing is that I had to scratch one project because of the hour delay when I could have had the girls working on it while we were waiting for the other two but I didn't realize they were going to be a whole hour late so we just played games. I also had one girl call me at 4:45 (for the 6:00 pm sleepover) to tell me that she didn't want to come. I tried to get her to come just for the craft part and dinner but it didn't work.
Here are the good things:
The girls had fun
We learned about patrols and the division of labor during camping/sleepovers
We learned about mess kits and dunk bags and put our mess kits together
We prepared our own dinners
We learned how to wash dishes the Girl Scout way
We made our sit-upons and finally finished our Girl Scout Ways try-it
And the bad things:
The girls just flat out did not listen to me. I had to tell them over and over again to do everything, even after I sat them all down and explained to them that they needed to do things the first time I asked them to. They were very loud several times despite our sleepover rule of using inside voices although I expected that because it was a sleepover. I plan to have a serious discussion with them at our meeting on Wednesday about how disrespectful it was for them to not do things when they were asked. This sleepover illustrated that we will definitely be delaying our entire camping progression as I don't feel comfortable taking them on a "camping trip" when they won't listen to me in a house.
All in all, I think the event went well. We played new games, learned a new song, learned several new skills that will prepare us for camping and managed to complete a couple of try-it activities. It was our first overnight and the girls handled being away from home really well and I think they had tons of fun. I'm happy to say that they at least slept in until 7:30 so I was able to get some sleep even though I kept waking up every time someone made a noise. They slept a good 7 hours but I only got 3. I'm happy we had it and I'm happy it's over and I'm ready to move on to the next step.
Thanks again to everyone for your advice. Tiger's game was a big hit and Lesli's movie thing worked so I was grateful for your input. Now to recover!
Oh, Shauna. You did very well. Glad you liked the game. You made it through. Let's celebrate!! (IMHO, you are doing/did the right thing every step of the way through that sleepover.) :mickeybar :mickeybar :mickeybar Fat free, calorie free, 0-points, 0-carbs, but a WHOLE lotta taste. Enjoy!
Tiger - Hi there! Forgive me for being confused but I'm still tired. What did you mean by your post?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I was pretty good this weekend food wise. I still don't know why I had a minor meltdown after WI. I'm doing great and I'm happy with my progress. I guess I was just hoping for another good week. Oh well, a loss is a loss!

I didn't eat much at the sleepover but I did splurge. We made mini-pizzas from english muffins, cheese, pepperoni and pizza sauce and I had two. They were quite good considering what they were made of. We also made indoor s'mores and I had one. Even with my splurge, I was still under for the day on my points.

Sunday, DH and I took all of the sleepover stuff home and then went out to breakfast to my favorite local breakfast place where I had my favorite breakfast - 2 scrambled egg whites, 1 sausage patty and 1 homemade biscuit with milk gravy. I almost fell asleep twice at the table but finished up the whole thing, went home and took a 3.5 hour nap which was heavenly! After my nap, DH and I met his best friend for dinner and then went to see "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". Dinner was OK. I was craving spaghetti with marinara which I had at one of our little local chain Italian restaurants and then I had kettle corn at the movie. Yesterday was a good day but I am still totally beat.

Today, I've had:

Breakfast:
1 Breakfast shake

Lunch:
1 cup spaghetti with 1/4 cup marinara sauce
1 Danimals
1 oz. Zesty Barbecue Soy Crisps

I have no idea what we are having for dinner tonight. I'm probably going to make Bruschetta Chicken because it's easy and has super low points but feels like a splurge because it has stuffing as the topping. I'll post the recipe later. I also have tons of homework for class and have to cut out the foam frames we will be using to make our Mother's Day craft at Wednesday's meeting. No rest for the wicked! ;)

Sounds like you had a good time at the sleepover and coming from experience, you did GREAT! The girls you are working with are very young, so as long as you continue to be consistent on the rules, they will settle down eventually. Talking to them again at the meeting is a good idea. Have they earned the Manners try-it, yet? It is a good one and quite simple to do. Something you can try next time they won't listen (even at meetings) is have them sit in a circle, put a candle in the middle and light it. As long as the candle is burning, they have to be quite. Hint: Get a large candle, after a few minutes you can ask them if they are ready to listen and go have fun. Usually, they would much rather listen than wait for the large candle to burn out on its own. ;) Just a good way to regroup. Glad the movie idea worked. After 4 kids and a bunch of Scouts, you learn a few tricks.

Your food is looking good. Keep up the good work and you will have another loss soon. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

I just found your journal and your Brownie troop sounds like mine LOL! However, mine are now 3rd graders and things do get better. (Although I did ask one mom recently when they develop any logic skills LOL!) Do you have some help from the moms? (I find that the fact that I do it without a daughter tends to shame them into doing stuff!)

I have been a GS for over 30 years and while I don't have kids I just kept going. I am actually leading a group of Cadettes/Seniors to London, Paris and Switzerland next month. (And I am going to let myself eat anything I want!) And by the way, the older age group has "selective hearing" LOL!

Good job on your weight loss!

I'm only down .8 lb. this week. I'm really starting to stress because I don't see myself making my Summer Challenge goal. I've been drinking tons of water and staying OP. I guess it's just the natural process for the weight loss to slow but I am really unhappy about this. I'm thinking it's time to start trying to find time for exercise but I just don't know when. :( :confused3

Congrats on the .8lbs. :banana: Take what you can get. Exercise is a key factor and honestly, I have trouble fitting it in as well. If I wake up before everyone else, I seem to do fine with getting it in, but if I don't then it gets harder.

Somethings you could try is find 20 minutes to just dance to some of your favorite music. Or every time you get up to go to the bathroom or to go do something take a few minutes to do some stretching or dancing. If you have stairs at home, every time you go up stairs come back down right away and then go back up again before you go do whatever you went upstairs for. It's like climbing two flights. None of these things are the great workouts that you are supposed to do, but it is extra movement and uses more muscles and every little bit helps.

Have a great weekend. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

I'm with Lesli...tkae what you can get! A .8 loss is so much better than 0 lost! Lesli gave some great tips on how to keep you active and moving. One thing I've been doing is marching in place...if I'm doing dishes, watching some tv, cooking in front of the stove...even water my plants, I use that time to march in place. Maybe invest in some ankle weights as well...that way you're burning more calories with these things because yuo're putting more effort into doing it. It can be hard for me to find time to exercise as well...there have been days where I co uldn't get in a workout unntil 10:30pm or later. I just had to focus on my "something is better than nothing" mentality...it's helped a lot.

I hope you're having a great weekend!

I am a horrible person!!

I'm so sorry I haven't been by lately. Last week was uber-crazy and this weekend has been busy as well. In fact, May as a whole is looking kinda loopy. I can't wait until summer is here. :bitelip:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello to all of my fabulous visitors!!! I don't know why you have all kept coming because I certainly haven't given you much to read lately! I must say that I love having you all here though because it's so much better than talking to myself!
Lesli - Yes, I survived the sleepover then had immediately had prep for the meeting and tons of homework last week so no time to recover. We are finishing up the Manners try-it which is going well. I did talk to them at the meeting and essentially just went over the GS Law and asked them if they thought their behavior coincided with the elements of the Law. They all apologized and made suggestions on some ways of dealing with the problems that occured in case they happen in the future. I am very proud of them for being willing to discuss the issue and come up with solutions for the future. I also love the candle idea and will definitely be hanging on to that one for future use!
Welcome Carol! It's good to know that it gets a bit easier. I do have lots of help from the moms. I don't have a co-leader so they are my acting co-leaders and switch off so we can maintain Safety-Wise ratios. I also think the shaming thing works with my troop as well because DH and I don't have kids yet we share so much time with theirs. Have a ball on your trip! How fun it that going to be!!
Lesli - Good ideas for working in the exercise. And I am happy about my loss because at least it is not a gain!
Mary - I too think that I am going to have say that a little is better than none at all. Every little bit helps, right!
