A Wigdout trip report, DISmeets, Flashing Jelly Rings and Manpris, Oh MY!

To bad I retired before I found the Dis your bulletin board ideas would have come in handy.

I believe one reason we lose so many new teachers is they are given the kids with the most problems, before they have the experience to adapt. Also they come in with visions of making learning fun and working with the students and then learn how much paper work is involved. The time my first years that I spent planning fun activities and learning new things were later spent filling out paperwork.

After 30 years of teaching my one regret is that I was not allowed to just teach under the new requirements and standards. My students still met standards because my standards were higher than state standards, but less fun for my students, and their teacher.

This I can completely relate to...I'm a 5th year teacher and sometimes I feel so overwhelmed by all the beaucracy...but thankfully I do have a great year this year! I'm only teaching 1 prep and with some relief from some end of the year exams I'm hoping to be able to do a lot more projects and more labs!

Wigd....

I love your bulletin board, but I still think its too darn early for kids to be back in school. We folks from the NE grew up on no school until after labor day. Anything before that just doesn't seem right to me. It never will. My kids start pre season high school soccer on Monday and go back to school on the 27th. They are already in mourning. We took them out to dinner to tonight to celebrate their last few nights of freedom.

Hear, Hear, MEK!

I never started school in August growing up in Maine. It was even odd if we started it before Labor Day, it's just weird to me.

I only have DH to blame
Have you tried nagging?;)
Great bullitien board!! It's fun to get a peek into your classroom. :goodvibes:

Thanks to Marc for uploading and posting the video on EE-I'm looking forward to it!
Thanks, that bulletin board was really fun to put together. I'm still working on Marc to get that video up on youtube!
Let's not ever tell!!! ;)
My lips are sealed!

We were told this year that we lost 60% of our first year teachers! Sixty percent!!!

Do you think they all quit or were non-renewed?

To bad I retired before I found the Dis your bulletin board ideas would have come in handy.
There are some very good ideas floating around here on the DIS.:cutie:

I agree with you 100%, the new teachers are given the toughest kids and the paperwork is all consuming...
Making AYP gets tougher all the time, it's so difficult to make learning fun for the kids...

After 30 years of teaching my one regret is that I was not allowed to just teach under the new requirements and standards. My students still met standards because my standards were higher than state standards, but less fun for my students, and their teacher.
I understand accountability in education but it's so important to make learning fun! We struggle with that continually.

And we have a winner! That's exactly how it is here. We have lost excellent teachers to early retirement because of the scrutiny and paperwork.
That's it isn't it?

Your kids are going to enjoy all of the hands on work!

I know it does seem early but for us it's not as early as last year. Today we found out that due to our districts good showing for last year's state testing we don't have to work on our last teacher work day.... I really like getting out of school at the end of May!

Way back when I was a kid we got out at Memorial Day and went back after Labor Day....that was a long, long time ago...

Monday June 9

We woke up bright and early to be at the bus for our 8:55 ADR at Kona, yippee for Tonga Toast! We took the bus to MK then hopped on one of the boats for a nice ride over to the Poly.
Marc and I had decided to share share our meals. Then we could each have
some Tonga and try something new as well.
Baylor was attempting to cover his poor choice of ice after we got our game started...

We were able to fast pass Soarin' and Test Track, ride Living With the Land and in between we spent some time in Innoventions. While Baylor played video games, Marc and I tried the Piggy Bank Adventure.

This was a really cute attraction, we had fun playing, and trying to reach our goal of that dream vacation.

Your henna still loves fab and you're getting lots done at Epcot already. Those piggies are awfully cute. Aren't you already on your dream vacation?;)

I just wanted to share my little bit of classroom Disney happiness, I got this idea from MeMom!

This is SO cute!!!

Tonga toast looks great! I think I would be much happier splitting some not so heavy carb laden breakfast also!

Love the start of your epcot day!! What a cute little piggie family! Looking forward to more!

YUM! One day I will enjoy Tonga Toast!

That piggy bank adventure looks like so much fun. I've read about it in 3 or 4 reports now.

Oh yes, the Tonga has banana stuffing! It was awesome to walk around the pool before the swimmers came!

I was impressed by the henna that day! I had more to update but things got busy around here, I hope to finish our day later this evening....
AND yes, I agree, win, lose or draw we were on our dream vacation.
:cloud9:

This is SO cute!!!
Thanks, I had so much fun putting it together!

So glad you guys were having fun in EPCOT!! I really need to take the time to visit and explore Innovations a little closer!! The Piggy Bank Adventure looks like a lot of fun...can't wait to see how your adventure ended up!!!

How I love Tonga Toast!!! :cloud9:

Agghhh, I can't believe you left us with a cliffhanger! I have to know if you achieved your goal of a dream vacation!

We began the game by putting our piggie bank in a little machine...

368.jpg

Then played a series of video games to see if we could save and invest our money....

370.jpg

371.jpg

Then moved on to the next challenge....

373.jpg

All the while working our way to the goal of a dream vacation....

374.jpg

I think we needed the help of Baylor because we didn't make our goal, but that's OK because we were at Disney and really what could be better?

We extracted Baylor from a video game and headed over to StapStick Studios where Baylor was promptly chosen to compete in a box stacking competition.

381.jpg

It was the big kids against the little kids and the big kids were the winners....Who is surprised by that. Luckily Baylor was one of the big kids.

Next up was Marc who was chosen to go onstage and compete in the Bringing Up Babies competition....Isn't he cute?

386.jpg

The babies came quickly on a conveyor belt and the contestants had to diaper and feed them before velcroing them to their aprons. The contestant with the most babies was the winner.

Marc has no clue what she is telling him to do.....

390.jpg

And here come the babies!

388.jpg

Not doing to well....

391.jpg

AND THE WINNER WAS...............................

397.jpg

the other guy.....

On our way over to the Disney rewards character meet we saw these manpris...

398.jpg

It's always a surprise to see who will be behind the curtain at the Disney rewards meet and greets, we were so please to see these friendly faces!

What do you suppose Minnie is up to here?

402.jpg

Then she decided to be nice and pose with the group!

403.jpg

We headed out and stopped for some frozen treats. So yummy and melting fast!

405.jpg

We enjoyed a trip through time via Spaceship Earth, and snapped a couple of pictures on our way out...

The guys stopped for a couple of games.

413.jpg

OOOOH...Tonga toast you will be mine!! YUMMY!! I can't wait! Paula and I will be eating at Kona for breakfast one day!!!
Lucky you, are you going to split it or just eat the whole thing.....(I have done both!:goodvibes)

So glad you guys were having fun in EPCOT!! I really need to take the time to visit and explore Innovations a little closer!! The Piggy Bank Adventure looks like a lot of fun...can't wait to see how your adventure ended up!!!
We really had fun, we had never done much more than walk through, do the Visa meet and watch Baylor play some video games while we cooled off. You girls should at least try the Piggie Bank adventure.

How I love Tonga Toast!!! :cloud9:

Agghhh, I can't believe you left us with a cliffhanger! I have to know if you achieved your goal of a dream vacation!

Mmmmm, I would love to have some Tonga Toast right at this minute, the cliff hanger was very short lived.
As I sit here typing Harper is cleaning off the coffee table and end tables....:rotfl:

Yummm-eeee! I was hoping to have some more of that this summer, but we didn't get to. Maybe in October? If not October, December? Who knows, but whenever it is, it's gonna be some kind of good!

We saw the piggy bank game, but didn't do it. I bet it was interesting. If my piggy doesn't stop going to Disney World, he's going to be a shriveled up little piece of bacon!

Great pictures of the piggie finale and of the games afterwards!! It all looks like a lot of fun!! I would say Shocker did pretty darn good, looking at his apron!!

I am wondering if I had gotten out after three years.....Would the after picture be much different? :cool1::rotfl2::confused3

This is just too cute!! Thanks for sharing!!:goodvibes:thumbsup2

As we left the land building we were feeling a bit tired but not nearly as tired as these fellows!:lmao:

416.jpg

We stopped to do a little shopping and saw some guys in manpris!

417.jpg

418.jpg

It was time to make our way back to the World Showcase and over to Norway for our princess dinner at Akershus, on the way we stopped off for a ride on Donald's Grand Fiesta tour.
Poor Donald!

Our next stop was Norway, Akershus to be exact!

435.jpg

Waiting to be called...

Announcing the Royal Anderson Family!

439.jpg

In we went!

Light fixture for LL!

447.jpg

We were seated very close to the salad buffet. I was worried about this food after our spring break dinner at Biergarten. This is how Baylor started...

449.jpg

My salad...

450.jpg

more of my buffet selections.

451.jpg

Marc enjoyed his salad and selections from the cold buffet as well.

453.jpg

Baylor ordered the Cheese Ravioli (Mickey style).

454.jpg

I had the Traditional Kjottkake. It reminded me of Salisbury Steak.

455.jpg

Marc had the Braised Pork Shank.

Gosh you are going to be there again before we all know it! October isn't very far away at all, and yes it was yummmm-eeee!

We saw the piggy bank game, but didn't do it. I bet it was interesting. If my piggy doesn't stop going to Disney World, he's going to be a shriveled up little piece of bacon!
When the girls get older they will have a great time with the piggies! I know what you mean about that little piece of bacon, that's what is going to happen to us after our big family trip in December.:sad2:

Great pictures of the piggie finale and of the games afterwards!! It all looks like a lot of fun!! I would say Shocker did pretty darn good, looking at his apron!!
We had some fun in the Innoventions building, Shocker did well especially since he knows nothing about diapering a baby!

This is just too cute!! Thanks for sharing!!:goodvibes:thumbsup2
