We were in the World 12/12 - 12/18 and stuffed ourselves silly. We were a party of 4 adults (me, my husband, and my parents). Here is where we ate and what we thought of each place:

Earl of Sandwich – eating here has become one of our favorite Downtown Disney activities. I also think that Earl is the best value for your dollar on Disney property. All four of us thought our sandwiches were excellent. I had the All American (my usual), and it was tasty like always. Everyone else had the Earl’s Club, and they all found theirs excellent as well. We will definitely eat here again, especially since it is so reasonably priced.

Rainforest Café at Animal Kingdom – I know that RFC is often criticized, but our lunch was really good tasting. Our service was a little bit slow, and this is not the place for a quiet meal, LOL, but the food was tasty. My mom and I had the Bamba’s BBQ wrap with chicken, and we really enjoy that dish. The chicken is tender, and the melted cheese in the wrap really adds to the flavor. My dad had the Rainforest burger, and he was pleasantly surprised by how flavorful the burger was. My husband had the Flying Dragon Pepperoni Pizza, which he loved as usual. He loves pizza, and he really enjoys the thin crust this one is on. We’ll eat here again, though we are anxious to try Yak & Yeti now that it’s open first.

Nine Dragons – this was my husband’s pick for our Candlelight Processional dinner package restaurant. Some parts of the meal were really quite excellent, but overall it’s not a favorite of mine. The highlights included the Salad in a Vase appetizer (that’s a really neat presentation, and Mom loved the ginger dressing) and my dad’s whitefish entrée. He really loved the flavor (not too fishy) and presentation of the whitefish. My husband had the sweet & sour pork, which I tasted as well. It was flavorful, but nothing out of the ordinary for a local Chinese restaurant. I had the fried rice entrée, and it was tasty but a bit too spicy (I’m not sure what made it have a bit too much kick, but it did for my taste). Since the package included dessert, my parents both had the chocolate cake, which they liked since it had a light, mousse-like filling. My husband had the red bean ice cream, which he thought was OK, and I had the ginger ice cream which was unusual, but quite nice. Our server here was really helpful with recommendations and was prompt. While I enjoyed our meal here, I just think there are better choices in World Showcase. We’ll probably give this one a try once the renovation is over.

Liberty Tree Tavern – we enjoy lunch here since it’s usually pretty quiet (no characters at lunch & you order off a menu). In particular, my husband is a huge fan of their pot roast. He and my dad both declared it to be excellent, with very tender meat that was full of flavor. My mom and I both had the Colony entrée salad, and we thought it was very good as well. The only thing they changed about the salad was the chicken breast was served on top and was not cut up like it used to be. I preferred it already cut and mixed into the salad so the flavors mixed better. The dressing is really excellent though (I believe it is a honey shallot vinaigrette). We also give a big two thumbs up to their rolls with honey butter (though we did have to ask for them). For dessert, I must say that the Caramel Apple Tart made with shortbread crust was truly outstanding. It was buttery and delicious—one of the best apple-based desserts I have ever had. My dad had the Strawberry Shortcake, which he really enjoyed. My husband had the Triple Chocolate Brownie, which he said was tasty as well. Our service here was just average. Overall we very much enjoyed our food here and the quiet atmosphere, so we’ll be back.

50’s Prime Time Café – we had a wonderful time at dinner here. Before we were seated, my parents had a great time looking around the restaurant and reminiscing about items they had in their homes as kids. Our server was great, giving my dad a hard time about lots of things, which he thought was hysterical. I had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans. I loved the flavor of the meatloaf and the mashed potatoes were very tasty. I didn’t love the green beans, but I’m super picky about how I like them prepared. Needless to say, the waitress made me eat a bite when the airplane flew them in my mouth for me! My mom wasn’t very hungry, so she just had a bowl of chicken noodle soup, which she enjoyed. My husband had the pot roast, which he liked, but he said that he preferred the pot roast at Liberty Tree Tavern over this one. My dad had the grilled chicken with root vegetables, and he enjoyed it. I had the Smores dessert, and it was pretty good. Overall, the atmosphere/antics are really why we enjoyed our meal so much. The food was tasty, but nothing super amazing. But the fun we had made some wonderful memories! We would eat here again, but I think it’s more fun with a larger group like we had on this trip.

Garden View Lounge Afternoon Tea – my mom really wanted to have tea at the Grand Floridian during this trip, so I booked us a 3:20 reservation. It’s really a lovely room that feels very fancy and yet laid back at the same time. I had the Grand Tea, substituting the sparkling apple cider instead of the champagne. I enjoyed some of the tea sandwiches, while others weren’t to my liking. My mom had the Buckingham Palace Tea, so she had similar things without the sparkling cider. She only liked one or two of the tea sandwiches. For our teas, I had the Jasmine Green Tea, which I thought was nice. My mom had the Nobo Whole Fruit tea, which she thought was a bit too sweet. But to be fair, we really wanted the other items since neither of us are huge hot tea drinkers. We then both had the scones with Devonshire cream, which were absolutely delicious! We probably could’ve eaten a dozen of them, LOL! We then had the English trifle (Mom substituted the trifle instead of the strawberries with cream that normally come with the tea she ordered). Neither of us felt that the trifle had enough flavor and that it was a bit dry. Not to sound overly negative, but our service here was ridiculously slow. Normally we have excellent service at Disney World, but this was just plain poor. We didn’t want to be rushed, but it took at least half an hour for each selection/course to arrive after we had finished the previous selection. I’m glad I was able to take my mom to this event, but both of us were disappointed in the end. I noticed other tables had excellent service, so I don’t think that’s the standard here. I don’t think we’ll be back here any time soon since we have a tea room locally that is much better in our opinion.

Contemporary In-Room Dining – we were exhausted one evening and chose to go the simple route with room service. While we never expect great things from room service, we were still a bit disappointed with this meal. My mom and I both had Angus cheeseburgers, and while the burgers themselves were decent, the buns were hard as rocks. The fries that accompanied the burgers were lukewarm at best. My husband had the pepperoni pizza, which he liked. My dad’s entrée was the only one that seemed to go over really well. He said that his filet mignon with broccoli was very tasty and prepared just right. His arrived still hot as well. Our expectations weren’t super high to begin with, but I do think that room service food should arrive hot given the price especially. We wouldn’t do this again except for breakfast or something more simple perhaps.

Le Cellier – we had a really enjoyable lunch here. Our server was really outstanding, which made our meal all that much nicer. We began our meal by sharing a cup of the famous Cheddar Cheese Soup with the delicious breadsticks they serve you. Pretzel and multigrain were the two favorite breads in our group. For entrees, both my dad and I had the Grilled Steak Burger, which has long been a favorite of mine. Their meat is so incredibly flavorful. Here’s where we had the only small problem of the meal—my dad ordered his burger medium, and I ordered mine medium well. I didn’t realize it at first, but the kitchen served his burger to me and mine to him accidentally. It didn’t matter though because I was plenty full with the portion of my burger I did eat, especially after my cheese soup. I enjoyed the fries with my burger, but my dad didn’t love the potato salad he had with his meal. My mom is a very light eater, so she only had the soup for a meal. My husband had the Filet Mignon, which he said was just wonderful. We were pretty stuffed, but I did share a Warm Spiced Apple Crumble dessert with my mom, which both of us thought was tasty. We really enjoyed our meal here, and we will definitely be back! As a matter of fact, we ate dinner at Le Cellier the next night of our trip.

Artist Point – in the past we have really enjoyed the upscale, yet still relaxed and casual environment at Artist Point. It is a really pretty restaurant, and we got seated overlooking the pool area, which was a nice view. We knew in advance that we wanted to save room for dessert, so we skipped the appetizer course. Our server was very helpful with making entrée suggestions, though overall our service was just a tad slow toward the end of the meal. For our entrees, my dad had the Cedar Plank Roasted Salmon, which he said was truly outstanding. My mom had the Roasted Chicken Breast, which she said had a very good flavor and was cooked just right to still be juicy. My husband had the Buffalo Steak, and he really liked it. He enjoys the taste of buffalo meat quite a lot, and he also enjoyed the sweet potato gratin it was served with. I had the Pork Chop with Maytag Macaroni & Cheese. My pork chop was a little bit lacking in flavor, but that mac & cheese was amazing! The flavor of it is unusual and really nice. For dessert, three of us ordered the Signature Berry Cobbler. This is my favorite dessert in WDW, and it didn’t disappoint. I love the buttery flavor and unique presentation. My dad loved his as well as my husband. My mom ordered the Coffee Two Ways dessert, which had a mochaccino bread pudding served with a vanilla latte crème brulee. She went on and on about how wonderful the bread pudding was. It was so rich that she didn’t have room for the crème brulee, so she gave that to my husband. He loved it as well. So in all in our meal here was extremely good. We will definitely be back here.

Boma – we ate a late breakfast here at their last seating (10:30 am). I really enjoyed the nice mixture of traditional breakfast favorites with some more unusual items like the sausage/biscuit casserole and the brioche with raisins. Everyone enjoyed their meal here, including my dad who likes very traditional breakfast fare like scrambled eggs, bacon, and pancakes. The juice blend they serve is really tasty. Our only complaint is that several things seemed to be running out such as the scones and banana bread. Even though we had the latest breakfast seating, I still feel that Disney should keep all the buffet items restocked until breakfast is over. We will eat here again, but next time I’ll try to avoid the last seating of the morning.

Le Cellier – we enjoyed our lunch earlier in the week here so much that we were eagerly anticipating our dinner. We can’t seem to resist the Cheddar Cheese soup, so we started our meal with that once again. For our entrees, my dad had the Mushroom Filet Mignon, which he said was excellent. My husband had the New York Strip Steak, which he also loved, though he couldn’t finish it after the cheese soup appetizer. My mom had the Heirloom Squash Ravioli, which she thought was just OK. I had the Grilled Pork Chop, which was prepared perfectly and was full of flavor. I wasn’t crazy about the bacon, cabbage, & potato hash it was served with, but it didn’t matter since I was saving room for dessert. Only my dad and I had room for dessert. He ordered the Chocolate Moose, which is really cute, but he reports that it tastes really creamy and excellent too. I had the Campfire Smores, which had a really unique presentation and were super excellent. Two thumbs up for our dinner at Le Cellier! We can’t wait to return!

Kona Café – we ate breakfast here on our last morning at Disney. We started our meal with the Lilikoi juice, which is a really nice juice blend. For our entrees, my parents shared the Big Kahuna so they could get a little bit of a lot of different items. They really liked it, especially the Pineapple-Macadmia Pancakes. My husband had the famous Tonga Toast, which he really liked. I tasted them, and while they are delicious, they are just too sweet and rich for me first thing in the morning. I had the Ham and Cheese Omelette, which was tasty as well. Overall, it was a nice meal here, and everybody but me preferred this meal over breakfast at Boma. We would eat breakfast here again when it works with our schedule, but we prefer Kona’s lunch and dinner menus over breakfast.
