A Very Disappointed Dvc Member

My guess is the poster for some reason wants people to cancel at HHI, can only wonder at their motives...

I can't remember seeing bugs down at Disney in FL, but cockroaches in the south, man, they're just ubiquitous. We stayed on Tybee island a few years ago and they'd fly out of the trees and stick in my hair :crazy2:  :scared: :faint:

They call them 'palmetto bugs'. Here in Atlanta, we just call them big **$*$&# cockroaches!!!!

....The conditions of that room were deplorable!!!! Many things were broken (although they did fix them in a timely manner) but the place was sooooo dirty not to mention ALL THE BUGS INCLUDING COCKROACHES!!!!!! My 7 year old woke up with huge bug bites on her legs twice! The only reason we bought into DVC was because we were impressed on how beautiful and comfortable the rooms were. We paid THOUSANDS of dollars for this? Do members get the rooms with the worst conditions and the visitors the best so they might buy into it? I will be notifying Disney about this but I wanted to warn everyone what could happen to you!

Your descriptions of deplorable conditions are lame and unspecific. If broken things they were fixed, there shouldn't be a big complaint here. While I think some HH units may be due for some scheduled rehab/updating (new carpeting, etc.) I've never had a deplorable unit. Having a few insect encounters during your summer stay would be expected.

Vague complaints...low post count...makes me think you sought compensation from the HHI resort and did not receive it.

Please follow-up with specifics on your "deplorable" experience.

We have been members since '93 and have stayed at OKW and BWV. There has been a few times where we needed something repaired, but the response time was wonderful. I find it hard to believe the creditability of the OP. If you have problems with your accommodations why not report it to MS immediately. Unless you just like to complain.
:hourglass 18 days till we go home to OKW

LMBO!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Thank goodness we don't have those to deal with on a daily basis here in Altanta, but in any of the coastal regions in the south, they are EVERYWHERE!

First - contacting Disney with your complaints sounds like an excellent idea. The only way they can improve is by knowing about the problems encountered. Since several of your issues seem to have been corrected in a timely manner while you were onsite, it sounds like you did let the CM's there know of your problems - at least some of them.

Second - and this is to the board in general... Exactly WHAT new poster is going to hurry back (its only been around 10.5 hours... some people DO only stop in once a day or so...) to get blasted again for posting their opinion about a DVC stay?

Yes, if its a post only trying to stir up trouble, then fine, you all win for your ability to see right through this thinly veiled attempt at trolling. But wouldn't it be a MUCH better reflection on everyone to consider that it might a disappointed member who was excited to invite several friends to share a Disney HHI Grand Villa and was embarassed by the conditions she found? That she was hurt and upset and posted as such?

The nastiness and bashing of the OP in this thread is uncalled for and JUST as bad as any other trolling I see on various discussion boards. Instead of trying to post just your own experiences, or lending a helpful suggestion - it seems it is SO much more fun to flame and escalate the negative feelings. I find that MUCH more offensive than a negative review...

but maybe that is just me...

Sorry, maybe I am jaded, but I seriously have doubts that someone who says they have been a member for 4 years founds these boards just in time to post a negative review. Also hard to believe that there was nothing positive at all to say, just post the negative and run.

I also seriously doubt that if anyone found a room in deplorable conditions that they wouldn't contact management right away.

Way too many loopholes and missing information for this story to seem plausible. Most threads that find serious issues go into some detail about exactly what was wrong and what they did to resolve the problems. None of that in this op's thread.

I agree with Tagrel, and thank him for posting.

We ALL had a first post at some point. Actually, mine was not too long ago, and tho I posted mostly questions about DVC, since you guys talked me into buying (thank you, no regrets!!!), I had JUST had a very bad experience at AKL.

Perhaps the poster was looking for email addresses to Disney and came upon this site. Perhaps the poster had been carrying around a bad experience for a long time, and wanted to get it off his/her chest. The OP didn't complain about any other Disney resort...only this one experience. For anyone to suggest that it was someone trying to stir up trouble is way off base IMHO.
Sorry, but I expect more from my fellow Dis-ers. I expect Kindness which means giving others the benefit of the doubt.

Can't we all spread a little more hanname around the boards?
Thanks, Tagrel, for bringing this to our attention.

Come on now, make amends and :grouphug:

The orignal post was at 1am... I doubt they stayed up to defend themselves all night. Not replying within 11 hours just means they probably have a life off the boards! ;)

Which part of the post is so unbelievable? That the room was dirty? That happens... That they saw bugs? That happens too... I've read about bug bites at almost ALL the DVC resorts at one point or another. Welcome to the hot and humid south! The OP posted that broken items were fixed prompty. That seems like a positive to me and it also says that they at least told SOMEONE of their problems...

The point is, that no matter how cynical and jaded the long term DIS members become, WHY is it better to bash and flame? Why not just post your OWN experiences, and nicely point out things like bugs in the south? Be a part of the solution, not a bigger part of the problem. People are quick to point out that guests should use kindness when dealing with their problems at WDW. Why then is it so difficult to do the same here?

We found our room to be perfect....We had a two bedroom unit, and it was very clean and well kept..........
When we walked at night over at Sheltor Cove, there was millions of cockroaches, but we never even saw one on Disney's property.....

I hope that this is one of those...one in a million times that Disney had a problem w/ the bugs due to a storm brought them in, etc.

I love HH, and I have never had a problem w/ my room or any of the staff at HH.
Don't give up.....try HH again.....good luck.....

When we stayed at HHI last christmas the carpet looked like it needed shampooing. I had to call a few times for things to be fixed. I may have posted about this. I would say the room wasn't as clean as it was in past trips. But, I still love the resort. Maybe the resort is up for refurbishment soon.

I am disappointed with the discrediting of this individual's initial post. Who are we to judge people that own at DVC and are not posting on this website?

As for the original poster, I hope your future experiences are more positive than your most recent.

If the post is legit, then I'm sure the OP overlooked telling us how wonderful the staff is at HH. I know they would have done everything and anything possible to make their stay wonderful. After being there I can't imagine otherwise!!

My girl in diapers soiled the carpet one day. I did my best but there was still a little smell -- called housekeeping and they were all over it and had it good as new within a couple of hours. Every facet of our stay was like that. The staff there is the BEST.

We did see a couple of roaches in our studio last fall. I didn't think anything of it. (I lived most of my life in Florida.) I notified the front desk. Our 2br last month had no bugs. Not even an ant.

I bet the bug bites were from the day before and didn't pop out until morning. I haven't heard any bedbug stories from HH like there were from another DVC resort a couple of years ago. I'm not sure anyone ever believed those.

I DO KNOW that I'm always more critical of an experience when I have friends along that I'm trying to impress. Maybe that's why the OP was disappointed.

As hard as it is to imagine, there may actually be some DVC members who do not enjoy the disney resorts!?! This is a strange idea to some of us but may be the case.

Are there people who LIKE BUGS??!

You may want to suggest your quote above to the SC Tourism Board as a new slogan :scratchin , but I don't think they'll use it.

I don't think anyone likes bugs, except maybe an entomologist ;)

However I do think it is unrealistic to come to South Carolina or Florida during the summer and think you will not encounter bugs and lots of them.

Certainly no one wants them in their rooms, but many times the guest that just left is to blame. Doors left open or cracked, windows open, patio doors left open, food not properly stored. Anytime we have encountered more bugs than we can deal with; a quick call to maintenance and they will come and spray the unit.

I am not saying this is the case with the OP as I don't know them, but I have seen posts where "one" bug was consider an investation. :)
As to bites as stated very possibly mosquitoes, or chiggers, or sand fleas. Just like the tourists bugs love the warm weather of the South. :flower:

JMHO - it does seen that people are really quick to defend anything related to DVC resorts. Just because you've never had a bad experience doesn't mean they don't happen! It's not right to call someone a troll because you don't believe them!

My father liked to tell the story of the little boy who never learned to talk despite his parents frantic efforts to encourage him, and consultation with various experts.

Then one morning when he was 5 years old, he said "Mommy, my toast is burnt!" After much excitement and tearful relief, she asked him why he never talked before. He said, "Up 'til now, everything was OK!"

Maybe some posters are like that.

No Tagrel - you are not alone in your thoughts! Thanks for expressing them.

To the OP - sorry that your experience in a GV was negative. I do also encourage you to write to DVC and express your concerns. I also think that the instances of receiving rooms in poor shape is the exception - not the rule.

And those palmetto bugs - eeeuuwwwwwwww! I hate them too! But they are all over and do get inside!

Its great to write a letter, but I woud have alerted the resort manager if there were so many problems.

I've learned from reading these boards that if I don't have a wonderful vacation it's because:

a) I'm too demanding, or
b) I foolishly had expectations of any kind, or
c) I didn't look hard enough for "the magic", or
d) I did something to make the CMs mad or
e) I'm just plain ungrateful for having the opportunity to spend my money at WDW.

Now that I know I am always to blame no matter what happens, I'm actually a happier DVC member.

we love our membership at beach club. but I too am suspicious of the poster in question. my suggestion is to be like Walt. Walt didnt like whiners, so stop whining,, write your letter to member services or whoever and stay away from HHI since you didnt like it. If you want to sell your membership, there are plenty of people who would be happy to take it off your hands I am sure. I know one thing, if I saw roaches in my room, I AM GETTING ANOTHER ROOM, PERIOD END OF STORY!!. BUT THEN AGAIN, IM FROM NEW YORK.
