A vent and request for updates for headliners rides reopening this week...

I hope that means it is the only one that is going to have to be kept offline for a considerable length of time - I know many people likely thing I am crazy but I was way more concerned about Soarin being out of service when were there than Space. :crazy2:

I just wish they would announce officially so people can be prepared for what to expect. I am not impressed with the fact their hand had to be forced like this to take action after an employee was injured 5 months ago - they should have been on top of this rather than waiting until threats of fines surfaced! :scratchin

I am so excited for your family. What a wonderful opportunity for all of you and of course your ds. This is going to be a fantastic time. I certainly understand your situation. I think anyone here would be disappointed under the same circumstances but then you move on. He will love RSR and so many other rides.
We were there last month and Space was closed when we made the trek over. (autopia and TMRR were in refurb) these 3 were my boys' faves in DL. So a bit of a disappointment but more for me than them. Late we came back and Space did open so we got to go on. But it was all just so much fun anyway. We went as a family over the summer - big road trip from WA and thought it was THE trip. But something came up and we were able to go for just 1 day last month and take grandma for her bday (who was wintering not far from DL).
Tips for savings - buy disney souvenirs at the $$ store before you go, especially glow sticks. So fun to pull out for the little ones at night and great to entertain them while they wait for shows. And have an awesome time.

Just returned to the hotel from our second and last day in the parks. We were in DCA today. It drizzled most of the morning. We got in line early, used the wide right, didn't have early entry, stood in line for RSR, then the ride closed indefinitely. That was kind of disappointing. We then waited for a fast pass and finally started riding some rides.

If I was to do it over I would get the fast pass for RSR first. Soarin was closed. We had lunch at Ariel's grotto. Did everything we could and stayed to see WOC. It was great. We got there plenty early and were at the rail directly behind the front wet area. Those people got soaked! We had a heavy mist hit us.

All in all we had a wonderful trip and really appreciated all of the help and tips I received on this forum.

Cheers!

This is such a bummer! I wonder what kinds of changes they'll have to make to make it safe for cast members, and why it would take so long?

When I was a rotating engineer with my current company I had the pleasure of working on height safety systems for some of our power plants. Let me tell you, it’s a pain in the butt. Between design, testing, and even getting certified in some cases it can take at least 30 days. So I’m not surprised they claim until the end of may.

Agreed, though with the incident happening in November, I'd hope Disney was pro-active and was devising plans since then. Who knows though.

NBC is reporting they don't have much time to install the improvements. Of course, that doesn't mean anything. This could take months, or a few weeks. I guess there will not be some formal announcement besides the calendar.

!!! I'm so but I must vent. I'm really P***ed off. Our 1st trip to Dl and 1st to find out about BTMR and now SM is just so aggravating! I know there are other rides but these are the rides we look for to the most. Especially knowing that they waited so long to do anything about it.

My Rant over but not emotions!:sad1:

In all fairness BTMR is no secret - people have known for months about the rehab that is being done there. ;)

The Space thing I can understand - this is clearly negligence on Disney's part - but after reading the news yesterday, all our concerns about rides at DLR seem pretty silly given what is going on in Boston. :sad1:

Still, dissapointment is understandable, it is not like they can't afford to do the required maintenance/changes required!

Trust me though, there is so much to do at DLR - you might find your favorite ride is one you never imagined it would be - there is plenty to do - let's just hope all that is down is those two though, as who knows if there are not others that they have just not been fined for yet!

Your absolutely right about the Boston Tragedy. It's hard to even think to be sad about a ride being closed as opposed to people and families who were affected by these bombings.

But yes. I did know ahead of time about BTMR and I was semi okay with that. Then the calendar was released and I also found out that we will miss remember dreams come true fireworks by 1 week. Our 1st day is the 1st day with the switch over to the summertime magical show. Now add on the Space Mountain troubles (and who knows if any others down the road), It just ticked me off and I had to vent.

But you are right. There are still many rides and experiences that we have yet to see and I know we will have so much fun. It's just so dissapointing by Disney for neglecting safety issues and now we are the ones to have to pay for it in some little way.

I am right there with you - p***ed off!

We are going to DL from NH. This is definitely a once in a long time trip. We've been telling my son all about how SM is different and much better in DL.

Things happen, of course. But for Disney to not take care of it for months, is unacceptable.

OP here, please, please don't turn this thread into a debate, we all feel for the Bostonians and everyone else who were involved in the problem in Boston.

after reading the news yesterday, all our concerns about rides at DLR seem pretty silly given what is going on in Boston. :sad1:

It's true that a particular ride will not make a big difference in my life or future. I thank God that no one I knew was there and have been on my knees praying for those poor people.

In all fairness however, I posted this thread days before the Boston problems.

Yes, being concerned about the rides is silly to some people.

Please realize some of us do not get to have trips every few months or even years, so yes it is sad about Boston but that situation has no bearing on Disney's lack of proper management and the resulting infringement on my vacation wishes. I am still very upset with them for something that was known about but apparently not addressed months ago.

My YDS who is going with us this week, is terminally ill, hence the reference to all of the medical "stuff" that is ready to go in my previous posts.

For us, nothing is too silly for our very sick child who wants nothing more then to ride some rides while he can do so.

Even if we were to get help from Make a Wish or another group in the near future, who knows if DS will even be healthy enough to then ride the coasters and MTNS?? :confused3

So, please everyone, when making broad sweeping statements about issues, this really should apply to everyone, please remember that not everyone has the same priorities all the time.

HI OP,

Don't take offense to what was said. That statement was referencing to what I had said earlier. We all are aware that your original post was way before the tragedy had happened.

It was I who was complaining about space mountain the day after the tragedy.

And Yes I agree. Let's not turn this into a debate. It's terrible what happened to Boston but let's keep the talk about "disney problems" with the current ride closures strictly to this thread. For other world related issues there are other social media outlets that are better to vent off on. Let's try to keep only disney related stuff on here as hard as it might be to do so.

My comment was not directed to you, the OP - I know that you posted days ago as I was the 1st to respond to your post saying you will likely still have a great time.

I was just trying to throw in some perspective and not cause an argument, and the person I had quoted has already responded in agreement.

So no, I don't think you need to worry - the anger people have here is with Disney and I do feel that we are all very rational in knowing this is not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

I get the dissapointment, but I stand by what I said, 1 or 2 rides down is not going to make or break your trip - you are still going to have a great time, it is a great place!! pixiedust:

Someone just posted in another thread that SM is open right now. :goodvibes

I would suggest very caustious optomism at best - nowhere else is it being reported, and the apps show it and Soarin as still closed.

I would reserve my cheers for hearing from a more official resource - or having several people say they just rode it.

It just does not make sense that it would be open yet. :confused3

Oooh yeah, I understand. Where I work I dispatch all of our engineers, so I get to hear evvvvverything over the radios, haha. I guess I was just a little surprised that Disney didn't seem to do anything about this before hand. I'm just hoping it's a quick process. :thumbsup2

Yea be very cautious about your hopes. Only 1 person reported this. Maybe they even got confused and thought it was splash mountain and not space!

Disney has on its official calendar till the 28th and that's only because that's how far the calendar goes up to.

If Disney officials felt that this would only take a few days to fix then I'm pretty sure they wouldn't report it closed all the way up till May 28 :(

That may or may not have something to do with how long they think it will really take. It's entirely possible Space may have to undergo significant downtime. Maybe though they simply aren't exactly sure how long this problem will take to correct and they have reported it as closed until May 28 because that's as far out as the official calendar goes right now and they don't have a "real" end date to use.
