So, it is what it is.

If anyone who is visiting the parks over the next few days can give a daily update on ride closures that would be wonderful!

We would like to be able to give the little guy a head's up on the rides not opening the days we are visiting the parks as our vacation starts Thursday. :guilty:

Of course we do not want anyone hurt, neither cms or visitors to Disneyland.

I 100% agree in safety in all areas of the park, however, this does not negate the disappointment that we are feeling as a family today.

As an adult I understand the situation but I am so disappointed right now.

Did they really have to close down so many big rides at once?

I know there are several other rides that we can enjoy, but it's the headliners that we were looking forward to riding the most.

We am really worried about what other rides may be inspected and closed this week....:guilty:

We have 5 day hoppers for 4/19 through 4/23.

From what I read, some fixes are minor and it appears that they should be able to be handled quickly, at least from this layman's point of view.

We do not have the money to go to Disney and have not for years. We struggle with finances on a daily basis so this is a major opportunity for us.

We knew two years ago that DH's group was to have an all expenses paid trip to a conference at the DLH.

DH's work has arranged to have the DLH room paid for, his plane ticket paid, his food all paid, his daily food allowance while traveling is always more generous then he needs so some of it can spill over to help feed myself and DS, and our park tickets were discounted through the conference link.

Having the room and many expenses paid for us has been a gift for us from the start as we could not afford to go any other way.

We will likely never be able to travel to Disneyland again based on our life situation, especially while DS is still young enough to really take in all the Disney magic.

While we can continue to try to save money for a trip another time, we will have to then pay 100% of the trip costs and that is out of our reach right now and for a very long time in the future.

We took on extra jobs for two years now, a little here and a little there to pay for DS and my plane and park tickets. We waited with baited breath for DS to grow, we were excited when he hit 48.5 inches to allow him to ride everything that he wants to ride.

As a family we discussed this trip with our older boys (17 &19) that we could not afford to take the whole family due to the cost of park tickets, plane tickets, and food.

As they have gone to WDW several times when they were little, they were supportive of their little brother getting to experience the fun this time, while they stay at home.

As you might expect, we have spent loads of time planning, watching ride videos, the school work is already assigned for make-up (DS is in 1st grade), doctors notes for health issues are ready, our suitcases are packed and sitting by the door! :dance3:

We've made three different kinds of Mickey head shirts, arranged a rental car, gotten directions for Shopping the area for DS's specialty foods, found and printed out drug store and children's hospital directions and information in case DS needs help, the list just goes on and on... :teacher:

DS's medical supplies, and medications are packed.... our YDS has several severe health issues that make traveling a challenge to say the least.

DS did not know the dates of our trip. All he knew was that some day we were going to Disneyland.

Having been very busy this week between working and tying up loose ends for the trip, we have not been on the net.

So, we finally tell the little guy Saturday morning :rolleyes1 that he is getting to go on a plane to California to visit Disneyland next Thursday- he is beside himself with excitement, he runs and screams, he jumps up and down, he actually cried.

He called every person in the family to tell them that he is going to Disneyland and what he was riding and listed..... ALL the headliners..... he gets all his little toys and "stuff" in a backpack for the plane and is dancing around like a crazy person.

We made sure to tell him that Thunder MTN was closed for refurb so he wouldn't be too disappointed. He is like a computer, he knows all about every ride and all kinds of details about them so even though he has never visited, he is well versed in what the parks are all about.

He keeps asking are you sure that we are going to Disneyland this week? Really, are you sure Mommy? Are you kidding me, for real?

DH and I keep reassuring him that he is going to go this Thursday and ride the rides- he knows them all and has a list of the ones that he wants to ride- most of them are the headliners....

DS is worried about his leaving as he is a very sick child and he knows we do not normally travel away from "his doctors" in case he needs help, so the fact that we keep telling him he is going to get to go on vacation is a really big deal for him.

We are so happy to be able to do this for our DS.

Then I read the boards late last night to see that the big rides that we were so counting on riding, are closed.

What a huge disappointment for us.

Please send pixie dust our way pixie dust:... we are not letting our disappointment show to DS.

We are acting like it's nothing and we will have loads of fun anyway. I am sure that we will but we have to shift our expectations for rides now.

Honestly, we are thrill ride junkies and the trip just will not be the same for us now.

I do not think this is going to ruin your trip - there is tonnes of magic at Disney, so I agree with your approach to focus on the good things and just try to make little of the rides that are down maybe being missed. It is better you have the chance to go into this with eyes wide open and prepare for this than have this happen right when you arrive at least.

From what we have seen so far there are only a few rides down and from what I have read the inspections were done sometime ago and this is a reaction to the lack of compliance on Disney's part. It does not sound to me as if they are in the parks right now going through every ride and sticking "out of service" stickers on them as they find stuff - but please someone correct me if I am wrong, as I have not read the full report myself.

We are leaving in just over 2 weeks, but this is not a once in a lifetime trip for us, so I do empathize with your situation, but I also do think you will still have a great time!! pixiedust:

I'm leaving in a bit to drive down south. We will be at the park tomorrow and will be there through Thursday..I will post updates for you.

I hope they can comply and have it is resolved quickly!

I second what Sherilaine said. I completely empathize with your disappointment, but a few ride closures should not ruin your trip.
There are SO many attractions, and shows, and unforgettable moments, and opportunities for magic, that I think if you go with a good attitude, you will have a hard time fitting them all in!

I think it is possible to distract a child from regret of not getting to do a particular thing, with something else just as wonderful.

This truly CAN be a trip of a lifetime for you, if you decide that it will be so!

I hope this is a marvelous adventure for you, and please report back:)!!!

Wait times are currently being listed for Splash Mountain, Matterhorn, and Soaring. Space Mountain is still closed.

We arrived last Tuesday night and started our park adventure on Wed.. :)
We too are in a position that this trip is important in that we wont be here again..:worried: :(

We got to D/L yesterday did a few rides then headed over to do Nemo.. seeing that it had been down for the last two days we had been there..
On the way we noticed that the Matterhorn was closed.. :confused3
The kids were a bit disappointed , but were okay..

We then got to do Nemo and then were about to do Space Mt..when we heard that was down...::confused3

Again the kids handled it really well..

We then just did other rides etc. etc..

Our day was not really impacted by the closures yesterday..:)
I do understand that it would be very disappointing to it be your first trip and these rides are down.. :(

But believe me there is so much more to do ,:) and you will have fun either way...:wizard: just doing the character greets takes up half your day..:)

The only problem for me is that I walk with a cane , very slowly, I have rods in my back and hips that are shot.. so to get from one side of the park to the other takes longer than most,, and to walk all that way only to see the closed sign is a pain:headache:. It would have been nice if they could have posted some signs along the way to let us know that certain rides were closed..

Anyway , Im excited for your son...:cool1: If he loves Cars.. he will LOVE radiator Springs Races....:yay:
I hope he has a magical time , and you and your husband too...:hippie:

oh, and just a heads up.. if your son is not in a wheel chair, then make sure you stop at City Hall to get him a GAC, or if he needs a stroller as a wheelchair then they can get you the correct card there... and a first time button of course..!!! have fun

Soaring is closed at least this morning. My wife told me Materhorn was at least earlier..

Coming into the park this morning Soarin and Space were listed as closed at the entrance. Nemo went down for "unexpected technical difficulties" on Friday and just went back up last night, so be prepared

Disney just confirmed with @ocdisney that Space Mountain and Soaring will be closed all day today. I don't know why a wait time was listed this morning for Soaring. Shows how accurate some of the apps can (not) be. ;)

This is the point I was trying to make yesterday. Not every family is blessed with the means to get to go to Disney multiple times. No it won't ruin your trip. You will still have fun. However it will be a disappointment if you can't ride the rides you want. If its one or two that isn't so bad but asana as are down now would be a disappointment. Sending pixie dust your way!

It won't ruin your trip. I have been twice now and both times Fantasmic was dark. I was disappointed but I certainly had no trouble finding something fun to do.
We went in Feb this year and It's a Small World, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Fantasmic, Tom Sawyers Island, Alice's Teacups, Grizzly River Run, Splash Mountain, Silly Symphony Swings, Main Street Railroad Station were all closed. We still had a blast. If you go with the flow...it is what it is....you will have a great time. If you think only about what is closed it will take away from your trip.
Cars Land will more than make up for everything you don't get to do.:thumbsup2

The real reason to vent is that Disney set up two completely useless Twitter accounts - namely @DisneylandToday & @DCAToday Instead of providing park visitors with updates on what's going on, they're just PR mouthpieces.

pixiedust: for you.
I understand the need to close rides for safety but it can be disappointing to people to have so many Headliner rides closed at once.

I am chaperoning a small group of High School Teens from Georgia next week and one day we will be in Disneyland/DCA.
They are only interested in the headliners and Roller Coasters. They don't care about dark rides, Carsland, shows of any kind or any of what they consider "little kid rides".

For several of them this is their one and only chance to see Disneyland/DCA. I'm hoping Space Mountain, Splash and Soarin' will be back up before our one day there. I know BTMRR and Matterhorn were going to be down when we where there already.

Otherwise I have no doubt they'll just want to leave and go back to the hotel to swim and veg before the big tournament starts the next day.

That's why I'm looking at options for me to try and stay in the parks while the Teacher/Advisor takes them back to the hotel.
I don't want to be disappointed because they are hauling me back to the hotel before I'm ready. I know there will be plenty for me to do. I love all the Toontown, Fantasyland rides and really want to spend plenty of time in Carsland. I'm just a big kid. :rotfl:

I hope they get Space back up quickly. Matterhorn is really rough and we often skip Splash when the temperature is cool out. But Space has become our go-to coaster with the BTMRR refurb. My DD8 prefers Screamin', but DD6 is too short for that, so Space is her coaster now (I just can't take much GSS, LOL). OP, I hope they're up for you trip, if not, I hope your son loves Screamin' (it's the best coaster there, if you're into that sort of thing).

I heard someone say they rode Soarin' first thing this morning (there were 7am Extra Magic Hours or whatever they are called here), so it had been running earlier.

Splash Mountain was down after lunch but was back up quickly.

I don't know what the story is with Space Mountain. Has anybody heard?

A topics down from this thread, someone mentioned that they were about to board Space Mountain when the ride broke down, which would certainly suggest that the ride was at least running at some point today? :confused3

We crossed from DCA to DL at around 10am (and dear gosh, the entry lines were horrible at the main gate... it was like Walmart checkout!) and Space Mountain was closed at that time. Matterhorn definitely had a line around 11 and it was about a 90 minute wait, all the way around the back of the mountain -- maybe it had just reopened or maybe it was actually down with people still queueing up. Splash was down after lunch but, as I said, was running again in the time it took us to ride Winnie the Pooh with a 5 minute line.

I didn't see Soarin' or Space Mountain listed as open at all when I checked my app today.

ETA: DH remembers people coming off Matterhorn when we got all the way around, so it was running.

That would explain why a wait time was listed early this morning when I first looked.

Space was down at 8am and at 1045am when we passed by. They told us at the information board it would not be up today.
