A Typo?? $.93 a night and 1.13?

Where I work decided to take about 15 kids to WDW during spring break. We had rooms reserved sleeping 10 in a room (2BR suite plus couch). I got 9 rooms at the great price of $1.39! Now our budget won't be sooo tight and we are soo happy, now we can take all of them to MNSSHP and possibly a character meal for the same price.

Thanks Holiday Inn; our group volunteers to be your poster "child" if you need one for this endeavor. :goodvibes

Just FYI - if anyone booked one of these rooms and isn't going to be able to use it, I'd pay you $15 a night to transfer the reservation over to me :)

We're hoping to go back around Christmas time, but October and November aren't so bad either. We have APs, so we'd like to get some use out of them.

I tried to get in on it, but just missed it! :(

Ready for flames, but...
Doesn't anyone feel guilty for capitalizing on someone else's mistake???
I am surprised that NO ONE appears to feel this way.

I don't mean to be rude, but at $1.18 per night why didn't you book two rooms? They probably would have guarenteed connecting rooms and if not, oh well, you're out $20. I can understand why large families might want to scrape by when the rooms are expensive, but at $1.18 per night?!?
I guess I really didn't think about actually getting to use it, I thought they would cancel it or charge us a higher rate. I should have booked two rooms, if I would have taken it seriously, but HI probably would have lost even more $ if I did that, than to squeeze in our infant. :flower:

Although it was clearly a mistake on HI's part it turned out great for them. Advertising cost alone for the media coverage they received would have run easily in the millions, and the grand tally loss they incured was $110,000.00 not bad! I wouldn't be shocked if some other chain accidently made an error. :rolleyes1

Ready to be flamed!

The joke is going to be the complaints if this hotel isn't perfect. At the nightly rate, they cannot afford to pay the staff to clean the rooms or wash the sheets. I can't imagine "feeling elated" that the rate is so low. Remember, you do get what you pay for! :rotfl2:

Holiday Inn would not take a risk like that to not clean the rooms or wash the sheets ESPECIALLY since they will need to rebuild a clientele after being closed for several months. After all the press they got about the computer "glitch" A BIG name hotel chain would not just decide not to clean the rooms of the people that have the dollar rates. come on - get real ! :rolleyes1

Keep in mind it is only 1208 NIGHTS over like a 6 month time span. NOT a couple hundred rooms all in one night! I bet there are times that the hotel rooms go completely EMPTY, they still have to pay the staff to be there to clean the rooms that are occupied. They are loosing money over empty rooms & can still afford to pay their staff. Its not like the cleaning staff gets paid big BIG bucks. They probably rely more on tips left by the occupants & hopefully the people (LIKE ME) that got such a cheap rate will be more willing to tip well after saving so much on their room rates.

Ah ... that explains it :). They can't cancel a reservation and charge you a higher rate. That's illegal. Since your youngest is an infant you should actually be within the 5 person limit in the room :).

Sorry, if this were a mom & pop business, like my rental cabins, I could see that. However, this is a corporation that is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation! :dancer: Holiday Inn is an upstanding company that is willing to take the loss, which they will write off their taxes!, and maintain their positive image in the meantime. They have only reinforced my faith in them, and I have been a Priority Club member for 15+ years!

i'm still really annoyed that i just missed out on this rate! does anyone have any info about their new special offer?

thank you

I didn't know that the franchisees didn't have expenses! I do think that the employees will still have to be paid and that there are fixed costs for doing business. Could you rent out your rental cabins for a rate like this and stay open for business? I am also a Priority Club member and that has no bearing on the exploitation of a mistake! :umbrella:

You obviously have NO idea what it takes to run a business and how giving away "Free" things has more of a competitive advantage than charging rates that cover fixed costs. I work at the largest gaming industry in the world...Harrah's Casinos, and I can honestly wonder if HI didn't plan this whole "oops we messed up the rates" for MAJOR publicity. It's what large corporations do, and HI is one of the top hotel chains for customer service so I think they have some real marketing strategies that you wouldn't understand. They are SO NOT hurting from these low rates because of the free WORLDWIDE advertising they just received from this. I think we'll be able to sleep at night knowing we didn't take $ out of their pockets.

WOW! I currently am self employed and fully understand how to run a business! I question the correlation between $.93 per night and marketability. It sounds cheap and it is cheap! In this modern world, you get what you pay for. Don't complain when the rooms are not sparkling and the service is not 5star. At $.93 per night, you are getting a room. I defy you to open a hotel and operate it at this rate. I DO COMPREHEND what it takes to run a business! You should know then that Harrah's "loses" money in order to pocket it in the gambling operation. Where do you suggest that this individual hotel will make up it's operating loss?

Yeah, I missed out by about 2 hours, normally I'm on the computer 5 hours earlier. Strange I was kinda depresses yesterday and I was only going to get ressies for another guest(his loss or non-gain) and not myself. I started thinking of all the strange combinations I could have done, probably having to rework my entire intenary, kicking myself. Weird pychology - getting upset about missing something you weren't expecting, like missing a winning stock or horse. After putting it in proper perspective: random stuff and opportunities(example the wonderful advice given on theses boards) abound everywhere. I'm much better today..

I'm also feeling kinda sad that I missed it. I am always on the computer at that time, except, of course, for that one day!!!! Maybe I wouldn't feel so bad if I knew that the deal wasn't offered for the dates we're going. We're going over spring break March 26-31, 2006. Were the rates in effect for those dates? (Please say no!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I would also be interested in knowing what dates the price applied to. I think on the news it said 1200 nights booked over a time period of 6 months.
Does anyone know what six months????
Thanks

it was thru at least Feb-2006. Got the week after Christmas b/4 we go to OKW. Hope everything works out for all of us.

They had dates only through April 2006; I was trying to get dates for next May /June and they weren't open yet; only 360 days out I think.

Wow! I am seriously surprised at the amount of people who are angry on this thread.

Why do people care if others got to get this "mistaken" rate? I see a lot of anger from people "Your room will be dirty", "you get what you pay for".

Holiday Inn did not seem to have a problem with selling this rate. Several people on this thread (and I am sure others) called Holiday Inn, including the hotel itself to find out about this rate. And still they had it available for 17 hours! If they did not care, why should anyone else?

I am really surprised by the way people sound on this thread. Of course maybe there is just some jealousy that they did not get the rate.
