A twist on the dining thread - bad food?

The one place i will never go back to is Tortilla Joes. My girlfriend got sick after eating there. It ruined the rest of our trip...:headache:

I consider the food at Blue Bayou to be, while not out and out bad, overpriced and mediocre with service to match.

Village Haus is right out, across the board.:sad2:

Rancho Del Zocalo is fine if you don't expect good Mexican food. It's like Taco Bell- go into it expecting it to be its own thing and you're golden.

I have never seen the big deal about the Dole Whip. (Yes, you can all bust out the pitchforks now.)

Don't buy clam chowder anywhere but Clubb 33 or Boudin over in DCA.

The only boardwalk food we liked in DCA was the corndogs- which are to die for!

Other than that we've enjoyed everything from cart food to fine dining.

I forgot about that! I felt that it tasted like vaguely pineapple-flavored melted plastic.

And my son went nuts after eating part of one, and once we got back home I found out it has corn syrup solids...DS can't have anything like that. Sadly, he LIKED it, but can't have one until his body figures out how to deal with corn syrup (or the solids or the high fructose version), or maybe he'll never be able to have another. :sad1: for him.

It's amazing to me how different people's tastes are! What is absoutely "to die for" to some is "mediocre" to others.:confused3 :)

Cocina Cucamonga was my disappointment this time. The whole food was cold, rice was dry and guacamole was gross. We won't go back there again. The dole whip thing tasted like soap to me, unfortunately. But I think it might have been the cold so I will give it another try in the summer. And last, Minnie's Plaza, besides being expensive for the kind of food served, didn't make a good impression at all. The chicken was way too greasy and the pot roast tasted like cardboard. The gravy had no taste, only salt.

I suspect it is a combination of personal taste, regional tastes and dining "experience" for lack of a better word. Those who do a fair amount of fine dining are going to be a little fussier about the quality of sit down meals at the park because they have that higher standard to compare it to.

Food really does vary a lot across the states. Fry sauce is a staple in Utah, White pies in New York and neither is available here in CA. The people in UT looked at me like I'd grown another head when I asked for sourdough bread. I took a trip that included TN and MO this summer and was introduced to proper sweet tea, fried green tomatoes and sweet cream (as opposed to buttermilk) waffles. :cloud9:

MMMMM I love fry sauce!!!!! No, you can't get it in CA so I just make my own when I feel like it. After all it's just mayo and ketchup mixed together....sometimes with some other "special" stuff in it (like relish) but it's easy to make when you really need it. :) And I've never eaten in UT, we had fry sauce where I grew up in OR. ;)

I LOVE the gumbo over at Cafe Orleans, so I thought gumbo at the Royal Street Veranda must be pretty yummy too, right? WRONG. It's horrible and nothing alike. I'm a fan of clam chowder too, and it's bad here too. I was very disappointed. :(

I second that. The counter service Gumbo is just gross. We also had issues with the Stage Door Cafe once (the counter service next to Golden Horseshoe). My brothers had ordered hot dogs and they got them ice cold and pretty disgusting-looking.

The gigantic corn dogs that can be bought at the end of Main Street or over in CA Adventure are really good, BUT you need to eat them right away if you get them. At one point I had an AP, but my family did not and they only had tickets to get into Disneyland. I wanted them to try the corn dogs (and at the time only knew about them being in CA Adventure), so I went in the park to bring them out for them. I didn't realize how long the walk all the way back there really takes (even power-walking), so by the time I got back to them outside the park it had been a while. It was NOT as good as when I'd had them fresh. Not by any means. So keep that in mind if you ever get one.

Actually, Disneyland has improved it's food A LOT since I was a kid. It used to be that we NEVER ate in the park (aside from Blue Bayou occasionally) because it was overpriced and just not all that good. These days it's much better and we do have meals in there instead of going off-site.

The chicken pot pie at Ariel's Grotto was not great, the sauce was very salty and had a glue-like texture.

Agree - it was terrible! That is the only thing I can say that I truly hated while eating in either DL or DCA. Most of the food there is pretty decent. The only other questionable one to me is the Taste Pilot's Grill - I was not a fan of their burgers.

My favorites are Blue Bayou, Cafe Orleans, French Market, and Rancho del Zocalo.

Oh, thanks for the heads-up about the mac-n-cheese. We are planning a visit to the grotto and I don't want to spend money on food DD won't eat. Nuclear orange is SO not good. :scared1:

I grew up in AZ but my family has roots in the south....Fried Green TOmatoes! YUMM!!! Whenever I buy green tomatoes at the store the cashier either doesn't know what they are or asks if I'd like to go pick out some redder ones....:rotfl: No, thank you, I like them green.

This is exactly true.... We found the american food generally very bland, big portions high in carbos, low in vegetables. On our second trip we mainly cooked our own meals and I am sure most americans would think our food was meagre sized and very spicy....... Its all what you are used to.

I have to agree with this post. My kids love Kraft Mac and Cheese and I can see where it even resembles M and C.

The only food we didnt really care for was the burgers at the Tommorowland Terrace (I think that is what its called). After one bite we each felt there was something wrong with them. We went back up and complained (nicely). They gave us our money back and the option of getting something else, at no charge. They also threw in some complimentary rice crispy treats. So we left there feeling like they really cared. We'll definitely eat there again.

Wow! You're not kidding about the bad burgers at Tomorrowland Terrace. We ate there about an hour before closing one night (it was one of the only places left open) and we wouldn't have eaten the burgers but we were starving. The meat was cold and the cheese was not even melted. They were awful! I'm glad you got to trade yours in though, we would have had it not been so late.

I don't know when it became ok for America to eat like this, maybe the bigger is better idea or something but once our family switched to a very meditteranean diet....the pounds just slipped off. If we have bread w/ a meal now it's a special treat! LOL The obesity epidemic in the US is pretty easy to understand when you see the food we're offered.

We ate at Taste Pilots Grill and my fried chicken sandwich was stiff and tasted like it had been sitting out for hours and refried when I ordered it. However, I really liked the idea of the extended condiment bar and being able to put on your own lettuce, tomatoes and toppings. I had high hopes and I'll give it another chance, my husband's burger was fine.

The Macaroni and Cheese at Blue Bayou was TERRIBLE! My DD spit it out immediately after tasting it, (which was strange as she loves mac & cheese) so I tasted it, and it was just BAD.

i havent had a bad experience at village haus at all...Ive gotten burgers and pizza there...granted I havent eaten there in a year or so but....

i dont like the cheese for the mickey pretzels anymore and honestly the pretzels taste like they made them with too much water...not yeasty or anything...
