A thought for the Day

When it was first said that the sun stood still and world turned round, the common sense of mankind declared the doctrine false; but the old saying of Vox populi, vox Dei [the voice of the people is the voice of God], as every philosopher knows, cannot be trusted in science.

Charles Darwin

"The irony is devastating. The main purpose of Darwinism was to drive every last trace of an incredible God from biology. But the theory replaces God with an even more incredible deity: omnipotent chance."
T. Rosazak:

ADAM, you're absolutely RIGHT, my man:) :) :) .

Darwin never really "got it". He couldn't understand the significance of GOD's "I created Adam and Eve so let's skip this evolutionary nonsense which somehow dares to say that we came from "lower" primates who were disgustingly dirty ANIMALS unlike my perfect creation of man and woman" pronouncement

The Moral Argument

This argument observes that human beings seem to have a sense of right and wrong. If mankind is merely the "chance collocation of atoms," then what is the source of this apparent moral awareness? I would argue that the most reasonable explanation for this seemingly universal moral sense is that there is a Creator who defines what righteousness is and has created us with the capacity of making moral choices (viz., free will)

"First, that human beings, all over the earth, have this curious idea that they ought to behave in a certain way, and cannot really get rid of it. Secondly, that they do not in fact behave in that way. They know the Law of Nature; but they break it. These two facts are the foundation of all clear thinking about ourselves and the universe we live in"
C.S. Lewis

Adam, Adam, Adam, you're always sooooooooooooooo noble about MAN;) ;) ;) ;) .

Most of the historical evidence is to the CONTRARY. Since the history of recorded time, MAN has been KILLING, LOOTING, & PILLAGING his fellow man. "Nation-States" developed to protect people AGAINST others intent upon killing them. There's NO universal morality. Dream on!!!!!!!!!

I suppose that at "some point" man realized that he had to stop wanton killing IF the species was to continue. This "Turning point" was not toooooooooooooo long ago; your "CIVILIZED, MORAL" man almost destroyed humanity during the Cold War.    .......

Of course, GEORGE W. is now setting the "new" moral compass for the world....................... by threatening to kill thousands of those evil Iraqi women and children:rolleyes:   .....

GEORGE W. often says that, GOD IS ON OUR SIDE ...........     .....

God arrives and says, "Welcome HOME."

EROS faints dead away - physician, heal thyself! - only to wake up a short time later.

for the first time in his life, EROS is rendered speechless.

THAT WOULD be something ONLY God would see!!

"As the wind blows wherever it pleases, so are those born of the Spirit of God." Our lives do not travel in a straight line, as much of the world desires to do. We do not have predetermined goals and set expectations concerning our journey through time. We have been placed in time to do an eternal work. We might appear to be headed one direction one day, then appear to be going the opposite direction the next. We are being placed in Divine circumstances and situations and being directed to specific places and people in order that the kingdom of Heaven might be revealed here on earth. The Kingdom of heaven is at hand, your hand and mine!

GOOFUS, if you're soooooooooooooo anxious to hear:

"WELCOME HOME"

I'd suggest joining DVC :) :) :) :) :) :) :) .

Your chances of hearing such a greeting are much better at WDW than at the "PEARLY GATES"    .....

Garsch Goofyposter, you seem wiser than your years!;) ;) ;)

Have a great night.

Adam aka Big Dude

Your chances of hearing such a greeting are much better at WDW than at the "PEARLY GATES"

You...are HARDLY in a position morally to make that observation!

Goofus, if you wish to simply dream about that day when the BIG GUY takes you into his loving arms and whispers, "Welcome Home, Goofus", then I wish you well. When it comes to matters of FAITH,

PERCEPTION BRINGS MUCH MORE COMFORT THAN REALITY ;) ;) ;) .......

Lanshark, I love this!! Thank you so much for posting it! So true and encouraging. :)

Okay, while I understand there's nothing overly malicious going on here, I will ask that everyone try and stick to posting what they feel is a "thought for the day" and not let this degenerate into a series of personal disagreements?

There's plenty of other threads around where that would be more in line with the topic. . :)

Thanks!

I guess that the Moderators just "know" what is an appropriate THOUGHT FOR THE DAY    .

I guess that "some" thoughts are more "appropriate" than others:rolleyes:

What's the matter with you Eros? Did you forget how to read?

I said nothing about the appropriateness of anyone's "thoughts for the day". . . I asked that this not turn into yet another series of debates over personal philosophies. . .

If anyone feels the need to argue the merits of Darwinism there's nothing wrong with that; just start another thread. . . but please try and stay within the topic on this one, as you have been with the quotes you've posted.

Is that so unreasonable or difficult to understand?

Improve the situation

Every time you complain about something, whether silently to yourself or out loud to others, you tie yourself more firmly to it. Complaints direct your energy toward perpetuating the very things about which you're complaining.
There is a far more effective approach, and that is to propose a positive alternative, and to set about putting it into practice. While a complaint merely reinforces what is wrong, a positive alternative sets about to actually change the situation for the better.

Complaints, because of their negative nature, are usually met with some degree of defensiveness. Positive alternatives, on the other hand, tend to more naturally be met with cooperation and appreciation.

The next time you have the urge to complain, stop and ask yourself what it is you really want. Do you simply want to complain or do you want to do something that's going to improve the situation?

Most complaints stem from a genuine desire to improve the situation, but usually the complaint itself is not enough to do that. So go beyond the complaint and use that energy to truly make a positive difference.

Rather than aggravating a bad situation with your complaints, transform it with your positive thoughts, ideas and actions.
