A Ten Day Ride on A Magic Camel - Almost Finished Trip Report

Poor, poor Brooklynn. Ally was three by the time we went that she was tall enough for Goofy's. She was also tall enough for BTMRR & Splash on that trip. She is a roller coaster nut. EE is her favorite. I bet before long Brooklynn will love them all too!

Did Jill find out what the baby was last Thursday or is that coming up soon?

Oh God love her!!!! I would have done the same thing as Jill, in fact I have!!! :lmao:
We made Hollie ride the Wil E Coyote ride at Six Flags last year and I video recorded it and she cried the entire time!! She said she would NOT ride that again. Well.......we got her on it this year and she loved it!!! We didn't ride Barnstormer last year, but we sure plan on it in February. Hollie has turned into quite the dare devil! She cried and cried because she couldn't ride Goliath at Six Flags and anyone who knows what that is will tell you, it is a HUGE roller coaster!!! She and her daddy will have a lot of fun once she gets a lot taller!! I will just sit it out!! :rotfl:

Aww... poor little Brooklynn! She looks so freaked out, but so adorable. I am sure she will look back on those pictures one day and laugh. And Jill's expression just kills me!

Great shots of Minnie's house. :thumbsup2 The detail in Mickey and Minnie's houses absolutely amazes me! I've heard Disneyland's Toontown is even more detailed. I can't imagine!

Wouldn't work for me, the use of video is limited. But then again, I am teaching how to present so I want to see more of you. AS for the centimeters to meters thing, maybe this will help.

Centi - hundred (or conversely one hundreth). Let me know if that helps.

Great update by the way. Love all the pictures.

Remind me not to sign up for your class, then. I get all flushed when people are staring at me. I always hated every kind of speech class and speeches in classes.

Have you pretty much always taught at the higher level and Ma at the middle school level, or have you guys done a lot of different ages?

I hope so too for all of my teacher friends out there

Keep your fingers crossed that things get a little more teacher-friendly. We have lost many good teachers in the past about six years at our school. They have retired early or just gone to other jobs because of the burdens. Some of them were excellent and longtime teachers.

Poor Brooklyn :rotfl:
I know she was scared for her life. I have to say that I would've reacted as Jill did and laughed. I'm sure you were making comments to Jill and she was laughing at you too.

I think I spent most of the ride alternating between clicking the camera button and saying, "Oh, my baby!"

Jill laughs at me a lot, though. That's not nice, is it? To laugh at the hand that fed and clothed and nurtured you. Hmmmpf!

So do I, and so does my Mommy! That has been a huge topic in my early childhood class this semester (the class is called issues in early childhood education, so we cover a lot of different things, but with the elections and such, that has been a big topic o' interest.)

That is an adorable picture of Brooklynn with the Mr. Potato Head--she looks so serious and focused! :rotfl: I loved mine when I was little.

When I am down there, I am hoping to capture as many pictures as you...or at least come close. ;) It is all the pictures of the little things that are usually overlooked that really make me feel like I am there.

Maybe one day our trips will overlap and we can go out for some early morning photography together.

Yeah, I like Brooklynn's intent expression in that picture, too.

I learned very early in my relationship with DH, that 2 cameras are necessary. It used to drive me crazy that he never took pictures of people! All the time I have spent on the boards has made me appreciate more other peoples vision of what's around them. I was overly guilty on my summer trip of focusing on what was happening and not on what was around (still, despite all the reasearch I had done on the Disney touches :sad2: )

I guess that means I need to go back to fully appreciate them!

I think I want a camera that has a front view and a side view lens. Wouldn't that be interesting? I could film a parade and Brooklynn's expressions while watching it all at the same time.

Poor Brooklynn! I'm afraid I would have been like Jill and laughed. But maybe not. Cause I remember when I rode Splash Mountain with my 2 and for some reason I let them sit together and I was behind them. I got so afraid for the little one (she would've been around 4-5 probably) that she would fly out on the hill and I wouldn't be there to hold her in. I hadn't ridden the ride in years and I didn't enjoy it at all that time because all I could to was pray and beg God not to let her fly out. Thankfully between big sis (about 7-8) and God there were no problems and she loved the ride and all three of us still love it and ride it together.

Loved the pictures of the flowers and Toontown. I love Mickey and Minnie's houses. I got to visit them with DD this trip and have lots of pictures to show soon.

I think I remember you telling that Splash Mountain story once. I know you were praying the whole way through after you realized she was up there without you. I would have been having visions of her popping high out of the log on the big drop!

I'll look forward to seeing your Mickey house and Minnie house pictures.

Those pictures of Brooklynn - bless her!
She looks so terrified and naughty Mummy laughing!!! tee hee

My countdown is 5-days now - I can't wait! I have the Doctor's tonight, one final check of the baby before we both get the all clear for the NINE HOUR flight

Julie xxx

Jill's going to the doctor right before we leave, too. I hope you both get glowing reports! We'll hopefully know what our little one is next Thursday.

Next week. She sent me home with two packages - a red one and a green one. She will call me from the doctors office, and Brooklynn will tell me which package to open. One has a boy's outfit and the other has a girl's, so we'lll see. I'll be busting to tell all of you, but I believe Jill is going to try to get to the computer either that day or on Saturday to present the news to you all herself. So, I will be keeping the secret unless she tells me she can't get to the internet, and if she can't she'll call and give me the word to tell all of you.

Oh God love her!!!! I would have done the same thing as Jill, in fact I have!!!
We made Hollie ride the Wil E Coyote ride at Six Flags last year and I video recorded it and she cried the entire time!! She said she would NOT ride that again. She and her daddy will have a lot of fun once she gets a lot taller!! I will just sit it out!!

As long as she rides Soarin' with me when she's older, I don't care if she ever rides a roller coaster, but I know she will love them when she gets bigger.

How often do you guys go to Six Flags? What's the one day cost of that these days? I used to live in Warner Robins when my dad was at Robins AFB, and we would go to Six Flags with the church group a lot.

Aww... poor little Brooklynn!

Jill was having a big time, wasn't she???

You really could take hundreds of pictures of details of each one of those houses. I had more than I showed, but I'm trying to get through this report.

Maybe one day our trips will overlap and we can go out for some early morning photography together.

That would be pretty cool :goodvibes I'd love to meet you guys. Too bad we're going just one month before you do, but that means that I can show you my pictures and remind you of where you'll be in a short time!

I never noticed the Mickey heads on the horses' getups. That's too cute.

I LOVE Splash Mountain, it's one of my all-time favorites. I especially like that it is not really short. Even if it's not hot, I will always ride that!

Okay, I swear I'm going to stop Dising for a little while, and get started on homework...

Hi, I just noticed your signature says newly booked March trip, did I miss it? When are you going? Where are you staying?

Sunny Stace - I used to go to "Storyland" as a kid, we had a campsite nearby. I remember the little houses. I took my DS when he was young but I never took DD. Its still there...I wonder if they have updated it?

I can't wait to find out Jill's news, what a fun way to let you know. She is so creative.

You have a Rainforest Cafe, I'm so jealous. We tried to eat there last year but they turned us away because they were closing. The closest one is in Toronto about 5 hours away.

The yellow hibiscus flower is beautiful. The hibiscus is one of my favorite flowers. The white flower reminds me of cheese strings. :rotfl:

Funny you mentioned clipboards, I'm currently using a Stitch one. I take DIS notes as I read stuff I find interesting. :stitch2:

I have always taught at the college level or as a training consultant. Pooksma has been at the middle school level since she started. What about you, always elementary?

Great Splash Mountain photos. Did you go to the laughing place?

Well, this year they did a special at Six Flags that it was only $29.99 if you bought your tickets online. If you bought them at the park, it was $39.99. But, since I work for the Government, I get discounts with lots of places!! Our tickets were only $24.99. We like to take Hollie the very last weekend. Its nice and cool and not crowded at all!!! Chad and I actually met working at Six Flags!:lovestruc

We paid $69.00 for our season passes this year. We didn't go as much this year as last year, due to high gas prices. The boys have fun while we are there, but it is nowhere near Disney. It is such a shame because Six Flags used to be a nice park, now it is just run down. Or maybe my expectations are higher now.

I have my doubts that it's the same as it was about 20 years ago. I haven't been there since I was around 8 or 9. My parents figured I had outgrown it, little did they know I am a female peter pan! My great aunt and uncle lived in a tiny, little place called Denby, do you know it?

MeMom, it must be dads! When I was around that age my dad scared the ever-living outta me by chasing me up the basement steps in my minnie mouse hallowe'en mask! :scared1: I don't mind being scared so long as I don't feel threatened, but I certainly did then!

Oh I am so excited to find out AvaGarrett will actually be! I went over to the USA this weekend to shop for my little cousins' birthday gifts and they certainly have some cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuttte stuff for both boys and girls! And for adults....it was hard to control myself with such little time left before my trip, but I only bought stuff for the kids (they're 2, 11mos., and 7mos.). Aunt Stacy is gonna spend a ton when at Disney!

MeMom I just saw Punkin's festive countdown callendar and I wonder where yours is? Do you not do one? I think it's a great idea. We did the chain link last year but I like the callendar idea better.

Happy Rememberance Day !

Sunny Stace - I don't know of the tiny town Denby, we camped near a town called Cobden? Are you living in London? My sister lives there and we have been to Storybook Gardens a few times.

Okay, I swear I'm going to stop Dising for a little while, and get started on homework...

The Dising does get in the way of schoolwork, sometimes, doesn't it? The real problem is that that darn schoolwork gets in the way of our Dising!

Splash Mountain is just one of those classic rides, to me. The drop is exciting enough, yet not too bad for scaredy-cats, so it's a good ride for families to share together.

Whenever the day comes that our trips overlap, we'll definitely makes plans to meet up!

One day, when you have time on a trip, go out to Fort Wilderness and see the place where the horses are cared for. It's pretty cool.

The March trip is extremely 'iffy' right now. It's supposed to be a time for me to spoil Brooklynn just before the baby gets here, but unless I can talk my friend, Kay, into going, I doubt I'll go alone. Not that Brooklynn doesn't have the vocabulary of an adult and know her way around the entire place, but she is really only two, and if I am the only grown-up and something happened to me accidentally, she'd be there with no one. Neither Kay nor I have any business spending the money to go, but we both know we would love a short fun break when spring break gets here. She's holding out right now because she's afraid her husband will bark about spending the money, yet, she told me to hold on to the reservation and she'll see what she can work out. As for me, I know I would be better off staying at home and saving that money for a house repair or to put toward our summer trip, but I also know I'm going to be dying for a Disney fix between going through the winter blahs and getting ready for state testing at school. I'm holding the Pop reservation for now and just letting whatever seems best closer to time play out as God wants it to.

I have always taught at the college level or as a training consultant. Pooksma has been at the middle school level since she started. What about you, always elementary?

Always little ones. I have subbed in all levels pre-school through 8th grade. I taught four years of pre-school in a T-Th church program, a year of kindergarten, a couple of years of multi-grade resource type classes, and then third grade. I love the age of third graders, and I like the curriculum, even though it is a bit much for eight year olds. I do not like the constant testing. Every other week they have to have a DIBELS assessment, every four weeks a Running Record, they have Accelerated Math and Accelerated Reading, which are not bad programs, but the way they are used at our school, it's more of a must do and too often, and then we have a new writing program, a DSA/Word Study program, and a Vocabulary program - all of that on top of regular Reading/Language, Math, Science, and Social Studies. It's just far too much for our plates, and even though they think they're making accompishments touting all their programs, none of it is getting done correctly. We call it Skim School, because we skim through something and do a flash card type teaching, and then we move on. I could go on for hours about the bad things I see it doing, but the people who assign us all these things to do just really don't care. At this point, there is not a teacher in our building who can say they would recommend anyone coming into our school system for a job, and that is pretty sad.

More than you wanted to know, but it's just so frustrating!

Yeah, I remember it being fun, but nothing compared to Disney. Heather, that's kinda fun that you guys met while working there.

I will let you stay here sometime :goodvibes Next time you see the dream team you tell them I said so!! :rotfl:

 SO sweet!!!

I'll be taking pictures for you soon, and I will get you that castle blanket if they have them in two weeks, no doubt!

I'll be waiting to hear what the baby is. I bet you & Brooklynn are excited!

Jill is anxious for Brooklynn to call it brother or sister and not it or Baby Kermit.

I have my doubts that it's the same as it was about 20 years ago. I haven't been there since I was around 8 or 9. My parents figured I had outgrown it, little did they know I am a female peter pan! My great aunt and uncle lived in a tiny, little place called Denby, do you know it?

I'm sure my dad got a huge kick out of the whole thing, but he scarred me for life!

I bet Aunt Stacy is very loved!!!

I am nowhere near as creative as Dawn, so I leave the calendars to her and Jill. I love her Christmas one! I just use my regular Disney calendar for counting down, and as busy have things have been in the last month, I barely even check in on it. This trip has come quickly.

what an awesome way to find out what the baby is going to be. :thumbsup2

She did the same thing last time. She left packages and called to tell me which ones to open. When she called, I opened the one she said, and through the tissue paper, I saw blue, and I thought to myself that it was a boy, but then I saw that it was a big blue flower, and I got a huge, huge smile, because I really, really, really wanted a girl! I was SO happy! This time, I have a feeling it's a boy most of the time, but then Jill has said the heartbeat has been both fast and slow at times, so it's still a mystery. If it was staying fast or staying slow, I'd be guessing more one way or the other, but this one is keeping me in suspense. I hope it will cooperate next week and display whatever is necessary for us to know whether we're doing pretty in pink again or whether we're breaking out the pirate gear!

I love Splash Mountain -- must be the Georgia in me!

So, hop in and let's go for a ride. Keep your arms inside the log at all times, please.

IMG_3201.jpg

I'm trying to get the camera covered up before the big Splash.

IMG_3219.jpg

While Jill and I were doing that, Brooklynn was doing this.

IMG_3220.jpg

We used the babyswap pass on this, so Jill went twice and John and I took turns watching Brooklynn sleep.

I really hope all works out and you get your mini trip with Brooklynn. I wish I was closer and I could tag along and be the second adult. What about your future DIL? Could she go with you? I'm sure Kay will find a way, us women always do. ;)

Okay a confession, I don't really like the drop on Splash Mounain. I do go on it for DS. I really enjoy the ride itself, the song but not that drop. I even tried to ride it twice last time in a row but, still scared. I think that is part of the fun for DS, getting to tease me. I regret not getting the ride photo, I forgot to go back because I didn't have my wallet with me on the ride. :sad1:

Now, Big Thunder Mountain I love!!! :woohoo:

Brooklynn is so precious sleeping in her stroller. She looks so peacefull. She managed to get comfortable, even if it meant sideways. Too cute.

Looks like you do have a full plate at school, I can't imagine how you could keep up. :teacher: have it hard, I had no idea. :flower3:

Hey Sweet lady!!!! Love the Splash Mountain pics---that is one of my all-time favorite rides!!! I wanted to post this awhile back but forgot to----the update with the Terror at the Barnstormer made me laugh so hard!!! Not only did I laugh at the play-by-play horrified pictures of Brooklyn through the ride (thinking of them again just made me laugh again!), and then the priceless commentary of the doting grandmother (reminded me all too much of the reaction my own mother would have had), but the tops was the recount of the story of how your father jumped out and scared you when you were a child------I was eating lunch when I was reading it, and my "snort-laugh" almost caused me to choke!!! I couldn't stop laughing---the visual your story created just cracked me up!!!! Thanks for giving me so much laughter out of one update!!!! You are the best!

Thanks for the ride down my favorite mountain! I love that ride. Disney Imagineering at its finest.
