UGH I witnessed the weirdest costume contest tonight! A zoo near by was having a free admission night and all kinds of activities. One thing was a costume contest.....
Kids showed up in homemade, store bought, elaborate dressmaker made, etc...etc....
They split them into age groups of 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. They made them stand in a big clump (picture 30-40 kids in one age group). These 2 DRUNK men dressed as mexicans came out and looked at the clump of kids and said...ok, you , you and you - you win. Didn't even LOOK at the costumes. There were some incredibly amazing and creative costumes at the back that were not even seen!! I was so infuriated!!! My daughter looked amazing (gramma is a seamstress with alot of time on her hands) and so did so many other kids - but the 'judges' were too drunk to notice any kids. Also, the kid who 'won' I happen to know, and he is 10 yrs old - and went in with the 6-8 yr olds!!! His parents told him to!
Now I have to just laugh at it....as it is not the end of the world or anything - but UGH - i really hate this 'contest' stuff! Its the kids who get hurt, thinking their costume wasn't good enough to win!
