A reason to get a second or even third opinion

My cousin was just diagnosed with Bell's Palsy.
But only after seeing three different doctors.
The first didn't even do any blood work, just put her on antibiotics.
The second took blood and told her it was just inside hives.
The third was an eye doctor who finally diagagnosed her with the Bell's Palsy. Luckily he told her that one a scale of 1-10 hers was a 1 Actually it could have been a lot worse, if her mother didn't keep on telling her to see an eye doctor, because she has had it for 2 weeks now.

I had that last year. It took 4 doctors to diagnose.

I went to lunch with DH and bit into my hamburger and couldn't taste it at all. I had NO sense of taste. Then about 10 minutes later my neck and behind my ear started to hurt really bad.

I went to the doctor after lunch, said he saw nothing wrong and just to watch it. Then I went to another doctor because I thought for sure I was having a stroke. He said the same thing. I was in a lot of pain and went to a chiropractor ($200). Took a lot of x-rays and said to come back the next day.

Finally at about 10:00pm my whole face was sagging and I couldn't close my eye. DH made me go to the ER where they knew what it was right away. I sure looked freaky for the next two weeks! Still a year later one eye blinks a little slower than the other, but no one but me would be able to tell.

Bell's Palsy is a scary thing! It is so common I am shocked that so many doctors don't look for it.

I hope it goes away for her soon!

My Mom was having severe pain in her lower back and stomach area. She went to her FP and he didn't really think anything of it. So then DH and I told her to try a Chiropractor for her lower back pain. He told her she most likely had kidney stones, something the FP never even mentioned. So, on his recommendation, she went back and had an ultrasound done and the next day she was in surgery.
