A question to British Disboarders about the American Revolution/Colonial period in North America. 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 📃 🖊 🌎

It's good I'm now retired - this is going to take awhile! Thanks - appreciate the info.

It's also interesting reading how the country was run post-independence and pre-GW...... GW was our first president, but not the country's first leader. There were 8 or 9 leaders before we decided on a president. And I bet there are very, very few who could name even 2 or 3 of those men at their Friday Trivia Night at the local bar......! I know I couldn't before......

Philadelphia will be a very, very busy place in 2026. Lots of things coming to the city during the Semiquincentennial!! Now that's a word, isn't it?!
Funny enough, England has never beaten the USMNT in a World Cup match. We beat them in 1950 (they still consider it their worst loss in history) and tied them in 2010 and 2022.

Me and my wife have been to Florida and California with the kids lots of times over the years but we’d love to explore a whole lot more once the kids are packed off to university. I’ve seen some reenactments on tv and I’m sure they’d be great to see for real.

In answer to your question about my ancestry, I’ve traced my family back to around the 1500s but unfortunately they didn’t seem to get as far as America, they only seemed to get from Nottingham to Derbyshire so about 20 miles😂

Thanks for the suggestions Buzz, I’d definitely love to visit some of the battle sites and museums one day 🤞
Some reeactments about the Boston Massacre and Boston Tea party that I found on YouTube:

I finished school in the early 2010s. Most history taught was geographically UK centred: the Victorians, the Tudors, the battle of 1066, the world wars, etc. I did study the American West as part of my GCSEs, but we weren’t taught about US independence at all. Most of what people know about US independence is probably from TV shows and movies.

I highly recommend the sources I mentioned above.
