I would rather have a full body scan than to have a stranger touching my private parts. Went overseas on a business trip. Were patted down at a museum, a public park, and at airport (on the way home). Although I was patted down by a woman, felt very grossed out after being touched.

I dont think this a realistic poll. People on this board have OCD disney disease. So of course they will fly to get their disney fix. Most people visit disney once in a lifetime and can do without it. I personally will not fly after this next trip to disney, but I am not disney fanatic. I can live without flying and disneys not worth the money or the hassle or getting gropped. Outside of these board I have not found too many people that think disney is not overpriced. So yes I think there will be a reduction in air travel. Some due to the new security measures and some due to the dollar devaluation and inflation. Look how oil prices are increasing. It will just be a matter of time until this affects airfare.

it's a simple poll. it's simply asking if you fly what will you do? it's asking the dis members so it is a good bet most will be pertaining to wdw trips, that doesn't make the poll any less realistic.

he's not claiming to poll "general american population". just of dis members.

I probably should have said "the fastest" option.

I fly 30-40 times a year so speed is probably my number one goal. My next 2 trips are for vacation.
1) vegas (sure as heck ain't driving there from Jersey)
2) Europe- only option other than flying is not to go.

I said go for the scanners. Its really that not big of a deal. I do not mind at all.

I also picked go through the scanners if the tsa want to scan me pat me down then go for it i have nothing to hide. i get to the airport early so if the tsa want to spend so time with me then fine as long as i dont miss my flight.

The TERRORISTS and the IDIOTS WIN!!!! (And this won't affect airfare.. the airlines have finally learned... as demand dries up they will decrease FLIGHTS not FARES.)

I fly a lot. This is MUCH ado about nothing!

I have flown almost weekly since these "machines" were introduced. I have been "scanned' ONE TIME! :rotfl2: Listening to the media and reading the "hysteria" on board like these has me :lmao: Most of the 'hysterical" will never get the choices in the poll. They will go right through the old scanners.

And I notice that after a couple of days that the percentage of people here on the DIS (who voted) is around 75% of them saying do the body scan...... so, the DIS world appears, at this point, to be very close to the real world.

Some times the drama that unfolds on the DIS makes people reading it think that the drama is an unbelievably large issue, when in real light it is a small fraction of people who are voicing their opinions.....

Message boards frequently have many, many, many more negative threads going than positive. People who get great service or get exactly what they expect don't come on here much and post it. But if someone's seat was changed or their flight was cancelled, everyone on the DIS hears about it......

Duds

The dis is very far from the real world. They say don't allow political discussions on this board, but this is about as political as it gets. If you think the dis is the real world you must be living in some kind of happy bubble.

Neither do you know who frequents disney boards. Most people in this country cannot afford to fly much less take a disney trip so why would they care about security. People that take disney trips are obviously well paid and can afford to fly on a regular basis. If you think most americans can afford a disney trip then your not in touch with reality. There are a lot of people in this world just because the disney resorts are full due to deep discounts does not meant this it is affordable to most people. Disney is a luxury that only a few get to enjoy. There are many types of people on this board and I am sure a lot of them save all year to be able to fly to disney.

You mean a few million, right? :lmao:
Sorry, I disagree. I don't know of any kid on our block or either of my 2 ds's friends that haven't been to WDW. It's a rite of passage. The week in Nov named "Jersey Week" at WDW b/c our schools are closed 3+ days that week, results in half the class absent on the 2 remaining days.
I guess we're all out of touch.

I have plenty of coworkers who vacation internationally often, every year or maybe every other year.

We aren't paid well. My dh works a lot of OT so we can pay our bills and put the leftover toward our next trip. I'm not into tons of "stuff", designer clothes, shoes, purses, etc. I know LOTS of people who put vacation very high on their priority list, after necessities of course.
Try it. It feels good.

...every year :rotfl2:

But several posters here are correct. While this poll is being done on a Disney-related forum, this specific subforum where the poll is posted has many participants who travel many other places for a variety of reasons.

The limited options are a big part of the reason that our next few trips involve cruising from NY (area) and Baltimore and no plans to visit WDW.

I guess our family is heading for "other mode of transportation". We always fly because it's faster, but expensive for our big family. Now after reading a ton of stuff today about the new pat downs and scanners and such I think we may start driving to Florida. We have an hour or more drive to the airport in Philly depending on traffic. Then a possible long security wait, the thought of my kids having to be possibly groped bothers me. Then 2 and half hours on the plane. That's nearly 5 hours we could have already been driving down. I don't know..we are flying in January and then August. After those trips..who knows. Maybe fly, maybe drive. :confused3

I asked for politeness and good manners, and that isn't what I got. So....this thread is done, as will all the others discussing the new TSA proceedures. IF a new one is started and it starts to go downhill (and you get one shot at it) it will also be closed.
