I'm reading the "Digital Scrapbooking" magazine and it says if you're in a hurry you can combine downloaded "actions". It continues that this person used actions "wild tear", "painted wood" and "inked edges" from atomiccupcake.com. Can someone tell me (in English, using small words as if you were explaining it to a child LOL) what that means? What is the difference between using an "action" and using a brush? Do I sound as ignorant as I feel? TIA!

I'm sorry that I can't help. I hope someone responds so I can find out the answer too. I have thought about trying my hand at digital.

I can't help either, but find digital scrapping very interesting so I'm hoping to learn too and thought I would give a little bump.

Hopefully I can help :goodvibes

An action is a set of steps that are saved inside the action that does something with your photo, or creates something. There are even actions to get your photos into like a 'print out' template (like 2 4x5's and 8 wallets, or something like that)
There are LOTS of things you can do with actions, and you can even make your own action. Like what you did with a certain photo, but there were lots of steps? Just record your steps in the action and push play for your other photos you want it done to :)

You can find lots here:

I tried to explain it with small words LOL, but if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask

Just be aware that not all actions play in all versions of Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. It's especially important if you're going to pay for an action that you make sure it'll work with your version. Atomic Cupcake actions are nice because they have versions for both PS and PSE. A lot of web actions out there are just for PS and will not work in PSE. If you're using PSE (and that's a general "you", not just addressed to the OP), some PS actions may be using tools and commands not available to the PSE program.

You guys are wonderful, thank you so much Suzann and Beasleybear! I do have PSE so I'm glad you told me that and Suzann your explaination was right at my level. Thank you so much!! :thanks:

Although I am brand new to this site I have been digiscrapping for a year now. I use an Atomic Cupcake on just about every page I do (some slip by but not many). Her's are some of the only actions that are able to work in PSE. The way her site works is that you buy a month's subscription and you can download anything that is already up on the site and anything new she has put out. She has 2 "clubs" you can subscribe to, one gets all her actions, the other gets her digi kits, or you can get both at a discounted price (that's what I did). I think it was worth every penny for the month I did it. I will probably subscribe once or twice a year to get all the new stuff she has put up. I will give a slight warning that she has not put anything new up in the last few weeks so there is speculation she has something going on in her life right now, so you might want to wait until you see new stuff going up before you sign up. I honestly think if you download everything she already has, you get your money's worth either way.

Thanks Jenn- I will definitely check it out! As a newbie anything I can do to make it easier I will! Thanks for the tip!
