FINALLY, I am JUST getting underway with a long-overdue plan to loose some weight, eat better and get back in shape. I've been lurking on some of the other great W.I.S.H. threads, but so many of them are soooooo far along and well entrenched.

I'm look for folks who want to get started now and are interested in a "new" support group so we can get to know each other a little better and give great support.

I'm nearly 40. Want to loose 30-40 pounds. Want to get in better shape. I started just last week to eat better foods and more fruits and veggies. I also started walking 3-4 days a week. It's AMAZING that I'm ALREADY starting to feel beeter and I've lost 4 pounds.

I know I'll fall off the wagon soon, but I'd like to really stick to this in prep for our Oct. trip to WDW.

Who else is ready to start and could use the support?

Amy

Amy,

I will jump in with you! Very similar situations...just turned 35, had my first baby in November and need to lose about 30-40 pounds before we go back to WDW in October!

I just got back on the eating better and exercising plan a week ago. I have been doing my elliptical for 1 hour every night (except last night, I had to pack as we are moving soon) and I plan on going for walks now that the weather is nicer. I have lost 3-4 pounds so far.

I try to eat more fruits and veggies and grilled chicken but I am not being anal about my diet since I KNOW myself, if I cut out everything, I will just fall off my program and then I am at square one again. It's hard for me since I am SO picky about food, I don't eat a large variety and I hate veggies.

Okay, well gotta go do my hour on the elliptical! Good luck with your program!
:yay:

Well ... maybe it will be just us? Hmmm ... Think I'll keep posting anyway as I have to be accountable somewhere.

Didn't do so well over the weekend, but I'm trying to get back in the swing of things. After the weekend, I am only down about 3 pounds. MUST get back to excercising.

and I hate veggies.

Sadly, so do I!

well gotta go do my hour on the elliptical!

Wow! Good for you. You are my hero!

Hi-

If you pop around these WISH boards, there are a bunch of us trying to lose between 20-40 pounds by Sept./Oct. trips. I am 37, I've been trying to improve my eating habits and exercise for 3 full weeks. I want to lose at least 24 pounds by my trip slated for 9/21!

I started a WISH journal to be accountable to myself. Check them out, you will find a lot of great motivation.

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Wow ... that's a good idea. Haven't noticed those. Gotta see if I can find that!

Hi-

If you pop around these WISH boards, there are a bunch of us trying to lose between 20-40 pounds by Sept./Oct. trips.

I noticed there are several. I always feel funning about barging into an existing group. Sometimes it feels like some of the groups are already pretty well established, but I have started lurking thru some.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Wondering if you want an "Old-timer" in your group. I will be 61 in June and would like to lose 20-30 lbs this year. I am going to WDW 10/27 until 11/1 and then taking the cruise with my two daughters, one son-in-law and four grandchildren. I always try to be active. I do belong to a gym but when I get there it seems like I am always in a hurry to get somewhere. I try to do at least 20 minutes of something. either TM, ellipitical or weights. I try to walk a few miles every day. But, just can't seem to lose anything. My friend from my office is in her early 30's and we following WW together since January 06. She lost 50+ lbs and I lost about 5. I did start going to a core class at a middle school. That class is over until the fall but I still try to do some of the exercises a few times a week. Thanks!

Hi - I would love to join this group!
I want to lose about 60 pounds total; I have already lost 17 pounds. I recently started in earnest trying to lose the weight. I am 32 and want to be more healthy! I have two daughters, one is 13 years old and the other is 15 months and I want to be around a long time for them!
I am tracking my nutrition, eating much better, drinking more water, and exercising just about every day and doing strength training at least 3 times a week.
We can do it! :goodvibes

Wow ... I was really starting to think about taking a look at an existing group. I think four of working on this is a great start!

Welcome cats7494 & Mimmy Mouse

cats7494 Wow! Good for you! Nice start!

"Old-timer" in your group. I will be 61 in June
I try to do at least 20minutes of something

First, you are not an "old timer." I want to get in better shape so I can be active like you in my 60s! Sounds like you have a wonderful trip planned. Since you have the exercise thing down, I wonder if it would be better to extend your exercise amount OR do something to change eating habits slightly ???? Like I would KNOW anything about either ... I've been bad about BOTH of those things over the years. Hence my need to loose weight!

Take a look at timon ... she's rocking on exercise!

My update .... I did GREAT last week but fell off the wagon somewhat over the weekend ... although I didn't completely revert to my old ways. I am back with it now .... MUCH lower calorie intake on the weekdays and stepping up the exercise. I'm up to walking for 30 minutes per time this week. I started at 20. I try to walk at least 4 times a week. Yesterday I also got on my stationery bike for about 15 minutes ... for the first time in about 2 years! I work from home and was starting to run down after a day of pretty intense working. The bike was kind of a nice break for a change.

I'm in my 3rd week of doing this. Am down about 5 & 1/2 pounds. My digestion is already notably better. And, I already am feeling more energized.

Something that has REALLY helped me ... a food journal. Am not doing anything fancy. I just start a new post-it note each day and write down what I eat & the calories ... I'm a LOT more conscious of what I'm consuming. In doing so, I realized that I had to work pretty hard to get this heavy! What can I say, I REALLY like to eat!

Keeping track of what I've consumed is also helpful for me in figuring out what to eat to feel full and not feel deprived. Not feeling too much like I'm dieting is going to be key to my long-term ability to stick with this. I'm pretty pro shaved lean ham, small portions of grilled meats and LOTS of salads & carrots. I find that pretzels and sugar free jello can add some bulk to a meal without adding too many calories. To keep from feeling deprived, I've been trying to keep calories low during 3 meals & 1 snack and leave myself some room to enjoy a couple of handfuls of popcorn w/ my husband at night. If I keep my calories under control in the day, I don't have to freak about how much butter DH uses. Really, he makes the BEST popcorn. Other things that are helping me keep calories down ...some of the South Beach Meals, some weight watcher's meals and soup. Some are a little high in salt, but I'm working on one thing at a time. For now, I'm trying to cut calories & eat more whole grains and fruits and veggies. So, cutting salt ... for me ... means cutting taste. So, will get my weight down a little and get used to "normal people" proportions before I add reduction of sodium into the mix.

It's helpful to share ... sorry to ramble. I may also start one of those WISH journals that a poster pointed me to. Again, keeping track of everything helps keep me on track. Gives me a much better position from which to resist a big hunk of that cake my girls & DH got me for Mothers Day!

Best of luck to everyone. Hopefully we can work on this together!

Thank you for your encouragement.

I have a problem with my thyroid and am on medication. The last time my dr changed my dosage I gained 14 lbs in 8 days. Seems like it is a constant struggle to maintain my weight let alone lose anything. I just tell myself how out of shape I would be if I stopped trying. I also cannot tolerate alot of salt. If I am at a wedding or out to dinner I usually end up very uncomfortable because of the amount of salt that is in the food. My feet, stomach and fingers swell up. Weird but I have learned to cook without alot of salt. I use other spices and love coarse black pepper. My dh is so used to my cooking that way he can't eat anything real salty either. I'm already thinking ahead and have requested a low salt diet on my trip.

I had cottage cheese (no salt) with a small container of applesauce and cinnamon for bkfst. For lunch I had salad with a few pieces of london broil left over from dinner. Also strawberries and a small lt yougurt. For dinner I am using weight watchers pita spread with ff ricotta cheese sprinkled with spinach. I stick this in the microwave just to heat a little. Also might have an ear of corn. I stopped at the gym on the way home from work for about 25 minutes. used the elliptical and the bike. also did about 2 miles on the tm.

food journal is a good idea. I did one when I went to Weight watchers! Thanks for reminding me.

Good luck everybody!

:) I need some help and support.....
I am a lifetime member of WW who finally has fallen from WW grace! sadly I have gained back about 30 pounds of my 74 pounds lost! I did keep it off for 3 years... However, this past year I have not done anything to help myself and even more sadly I had to go out and buy new summer clothes cuz I couldn't squish in my old ones!!!! I am going to WDW in Sept..... Do you think it is possible to lose that much by then?:)

I'd like to join in. I am turning 40 this summer. Need to lose 30-40 lbs.

I just starting reading this section last night. I took the "real age test" well i am at 49.5 yrs old.

I am mostly a healthly person no real physical problems. just overweight and very tired.

Not sure how to get modivated. I recently purchased a treadmill. So I know I need to walk - everyday..... I just need to get myselft started.

I have done ww before with some sucess. I just don't have much time to count and log in food.

any sugesstions to get me going would be great.........................

I'd like to join you ladies, too! I'm 38 and have 4 kids whom I homeschool. I also work as a virtual school teacher from home. I have a hard time finding time to excercise (excuses?) but at least I can work on portions for a start.

I'm also trying to drink all my water. I usually end up drinking a bunch at night after the kids go to bed and then I get up to go to the bathroom a few times a night! I have to work on drinkind during the day.

Nice to "meet" you all!

I would love to join this group!

My first goal is to lose 30 pounds. I need to lose more, but 30 would be a big accomplishment for me. I am 20 years old and just graduated college so I'm hoping to lose all the weight I gained from stressing and not living as healthy as I should have while attending school (Eating at the wrong times cause of work or night classes, snacking during studying, skipping meals because of not having time, etc) I'm moving to Orlando in the fall to get my Master's so I'm hoping to have a healthier lifestyle by then.

I joined the gym with my friend and it has been helping me to have someone to "push" me to go and call me a slacker when I don't go. :rotfl: I have been taking the Zumba and Cardio Funk dance classes at the gym----These classes are a blast and really tire you out! So between my ab lounger at home and all the machines at the gym, I think I have plenty to do. I just went in our pool the other day for the first time this year...still pretty cool but I think it's time I start swimming laps and doing pool aerobics.

My problem is staying motivated.:sad2:

.
I have a problem with my thyroid and am on medication.

I wondered about that. Sounds like you have your diet thing under control. Have you ever talked to your doctor? I don't know if he/she would have any suggestions.

I'll tell you ... the food Journal REALLY helps me.

Welcome NotAmused, calpacagal, CBoysMomLovesDisney, Disney's Fab 4
I gained from stressing and not living as healthy as I should have while attending school

I TOTALLY understand this. I also understand about the motivation. That's why I started this little thread. I need motivation, too!

I'm 38 and have 4 kids whom I homeschool.
No wonder you find it hard to find time. I had that problem. I finally just made myself get up a little earlier in the morning. I go for a walk before anyone gets up here. I am sooooo NOT a morning person. It's soooo hard.

CBoysMomLovesDisney ... my only suggestion ... the food journal thing. It is totally a p-i-t-a. I've just forced myself to make time. I find if I'm keeping track of what I'm eating, I do a better job of actually minding what I eat.

For me ... I only walked yesterday. Didn't get on the bike in the afternoon ... just too tired. Already walked for 32 minutes today. Hope to ride the bike. Older DDs school has a "fundraiser" night at Panda Express tonight. Want to go, so I have to be VERY careful what I eat today. May try to get on the bike. Overall, down about 6 & 1/2 pounds.

I am going to WDW in Sept..... Do you think it is possible to lose that much by then?

My original goal was about 30 pounds by October. The first weight is coming off easily, but it's always easier for me at first. So, let's just try together.

Welcome aboard everyone!! :welcome:

I am doing well, in my second week now. Have lost about 5 lbs. Doing 1 hour on the elliptical most nights. I try to make sure if I can't do the elliptical, that I squeeze in at least one walk.

The one thing I promised myself was not to eat ANYTHING after supper. That has been SO hard for me lately but I am amazed and proud of myself, I haven't cheated at all! It's even tougher cus hubby is hypoglycemic, burns through his calories fast and needs to eat every 2-3 hours. He's never been on a diet ( I don't think he would last a day!) and doesn't understand how hard it is for me to sit there at 8pm and then again at 10 or 11pm and watch him eat!!! :sad2: He made a peanut butter and honey sandwich tonight and I was DYING!! I almost gave in but somehow I got through it and didn't have a thing!

I am almost back under 200 ( I was 200.4 this morning)

I had never broken the 200 mark until last October in my third trimester, I ended up at 215 when I gave birth to my daughter. Okay, the 200's SUCK! I can't wait to get back into the 100's :rotfl:

Personally I would like to be 170 when we leave for Florida on October 9th, that is my ultimate goal but I would be happy with 180. Anything less and I will be very disappointed in myself! :headache:

Anybody else wanna post their current weight and goal weight?? Come on ladies, join me! It's liberating :lmao:

How is everybody doing?

I'm still hanging in there. Don't want to give up even though I haven't seen any change. I'm going to take my measurements just to see if they change any. I should have taken a few weeks ago. Last time I took them was before xmas.

I walked about 2 miles yesterday at lunchtime. Did some exercises at home last night with weights and stretch band. Had to stop to pack. Going on a brownie camping trip to the Jersey shore with two of my granddaughters and my daughter. We actually get to camp on the beach. Plan on walking alot on the boardwalk. Just wish all this rain wasn't heading this way. Leaving Friday after work and won't be back until Sunday. Won't have any computer access until I get back.

Does anyone use exercise tapes? If so, which ones are your favorite?

Good luck to everyone this weekend.

TGIF Ladies!

Leslie Sansone is a realistic work out. She drives me batty, so I have learned enough moves on my own to do her walking tapes without watching the tapes. I use hand weights to increase my upper body benefits. I'll watch VH-1 or movies instead. I recommend checking your library to try some various work out tapes before commiting to buying several as they aren't cheap.

Someone earlier mentioned Zumba, I have a set of zumba work outs that I like too. I have a few Tae Bo tapes too. They are tough. I'll do a bit of Denise Austin on TV. I really like Windsor Pilates too.

Another hint is pick up a pair of trekking poles. By using them on your regular walks, they can increase your work out intensity by 30% as you move more like a cross country skier. I got poles, but I haven't tried them as I always have my dog with me.

Have a great weekend!

Wow! That's GREAT! Good Job

Holy cow ... our stories are soooo much more similar than I realized. I am pushing to get under 200. I started at 215. Was down to 207.5 yesterday.

For me the difference in the story ... I gained weight after BOTH girls were born ... something about the 6-18 mos. old period, plus a job, plus life meant I was eating poorly & eating on the run. So, I'm trying to get back to my weight immediately before my first pregnancy ... which is about 180. Then, I eventually want to drop to 165 or 170. I can live with that.

My original goal ... I ORIGINALLY wanted to be at 185 by the time we leave for WDW on Oct. 24.

(See we're close THERE, too).

However, given my early success and this strange combo of determination & will power that has finally smacked me in the head after being noticeably MIA for the past 8 years, I am now revising my goal.

I want to be at 180 when we leave.

Then, by NEXT summer, I hope to be down closer to 165.

I think the goal is now more do-able than I originally thought. Before, it seemed I tried to start one of these diets & get-in-shape kicks as a New Year's resolution. For me, exercising means walking but, where I live, that can be very difficult in January and February. I think part of the reason I am soooo much more successful THIS time is that I started trying at the same time the activity-level in my life normally ramps up. My family shows Modern American Shetland Ponies & Miniature Horses. I've got a lot more barn work and pony training/exercising going on starting in April and running through late August or early September. So, between that activity and the fact that I am exercising regularly for the first time in years, I am doing better at burning calories. So, I'm going to focus on loosing weight over the summer & early fall when I'm more active. Then, I am not going to stress too much over the winter ... rather, I'll just try to maintain.

Mimmy Mouse ... Hang in there! You are doing great on the exercise. Regardless of what happens with your weight, just remember HOW MUCH you are contributing to your overall well-being with the exercise.

Have a great camping trip ... it sounds lovely. I wish my girls had a grandmother who did such cool stuff with them. We lost my mother just 2 months ago and my DH's husband cares for his 90 yr. old grandmother, so her ability to do much with grandkids who live 4 hours away is SERIOUSLY limited.

Will be thinking positive "NO RAIN" thoughts for you...

I'm back!

I went away for the weekend and everybody is gone. Where did you all go? Hope everybody is okay.

I survived the weekend. Walked a total of 16 miles for the weekend. Had a good time with the kids.

Hope to hear from someone.

Wow! That's great. I bet your granddaughter enjoyed having you there.

I've been on the road, too. Spending 8 & 9 hours in a vehicle makes it hard for me to stick to my goals, so my main focus over Sat - Mon was just maintaining. It's crazy work time and horse time this week, plus it was younger DDs 5th b-day, so I haven't done much exercising ... unless you count all the stall cleaning in the barn! Oh, and loading & unloading hay and feed.

I was surprised to step on the scale this a.m. to see I was down another partial pound ... especially after the b-day cake yesterday. Guess unloading & stacking hay is pretty good exercise.

Will have my walking shoes back on in the morning!

Amy
