A NEW Summer Excercise & Weight Loss Group?

The closest one is too far from me, but I will keep my eyes open, maybe something will open up.

Dawn

Dawn,

I don't know if one of these would be near you? From the price info they've sent out here, I think they might be less expensive than your Y, although it probably varies by region.

http://www.lff.com/MembershipPrograms.aspx

We just had one open up here and it is beautiful with a top notch kids area. The price was about the same as the place we go to now, although we won't be moving since our current gym is SO much closer to our house and our kids love it there.

Goodmorning losers! (pun intended!:goodvibes )

So, I had a "win" this morning - got up at 5:45 and went for a run/walk even though I was up until midnight working. It was VERY hard to get my tushy out of bed but the reward of seeing the ocean/sand/early morning sun was enough motivator. I skipped the gym (b/c the class I took yesterday killed me and I couldn't lift a weight to save my life right now) and took advantage of the beautiful weather we are having here in NJ today.

I got a Tanita scale yesterday that measures weight/body fat/water. Does anyone have on of these? I am wondering how the water/fat percentages work together - for example, if I am retaining water will my fat percentage go down?

I hope everyone has a good day!
:cool2:

I read the string and realized it began over a month ago... I'm always a step behind lately! :cutie:
I'm 38, have 2 great (thankfuly skinny) kids and a pooh sized husband. I have a lot of weight to lose and today is the day I am chosing to begin a healthier life.
If I take the lead, my husband will jump on board- but it is just the begining that seems difficult. WW or other plans have not worked well for our family- so we are just going with a general healthy plan for eating and exercise.
Time seems to be our enemy. We spend all of our "free time" playing with our kids- they are only little for a little while. So this is my challenge.
Right now I am very active and always on the go so it is amazing that when I got on the scale I weigh 319! I know my husband is almost 400lbs- so we have a way to go.
We have an 11 day WDW trip coming up this Sept. so we are starting today!
I hope by staying on this wish board I'll be encouraged to stick with it. I look forward to getting to know you all if I'm not to late to join in.

Welcome Tator Tot's Mom. It's never too late to join! You have taken the first step by deciding you want to have a healthier life. This is a great decision for not only you but also for your children. Don't try to do too much all at once, you can get discouraged easily. Just some different ideas to toss your way. You say you are active. Do you have a pedometer? Mine just broke last week but I used to wear almost every day for years. Even my grandkids would look at it to see how far I walked. It gives you an idea of how active you really are. My goal would be 10,000 steps a day which averages 5 miles. My DH has been known to see me walk in circles in the house if I was behind. Do you belong to a gym? Some gyms have trainers to guide you with your exercise. Look at what you eat. Is there alot of fried food? high in fat? try to sit down and plan in advance a few days meals. Look at what is in your closets snack wise. We are here for each other. Again, welcome!

Hi Everyone!

Do you mind if I join you? I have been lurking and looking for a group.

I am 37 and have 2 children. (DD 5 and DS 1). I teach high school. Before my first preganncy, I went from 184 to 135, but all that has changed. I was never able to lose weight from my first pregnancy, and my 2nd pregnancy left my belly looking like jello:rotfl: :rotfl: . My thyroid shut down during my first pregnancy and regulating my meds has been difficult.

I knew that I had to do something about my weight after seeing myself in vacation photos. The fat rolls were shocking!!!!!:scared1:I want to be proud of the way I look. I want to be a role model for my daughter. We visit Disney in May 2008, and I would like to proudly be in the pictures rather than running from the camera.

Before children, I walked 4 miles almost everyday and did aerobics 3 times per week. I dropped 50 pounds in my late 20s doing this. With the added years and pounds, I don't think it will be as easy this time. I know a strenous exercise routine will not work for me. I am considering somewhere like curves, but I may check out a few local gyms. I LOVE sweets. I mean that I could eat a jar of icing:confused3 .Cookies and brownies don't stand a chance around me. For now (at least 2 weeks), I am going to totally give up sweets.

So here are my goals, First, I want to change my eating habits. I need to reduce my carb intake and increase veggies and lean meats. I also need to learn portion control. No more buffets for me. I will push myself to exercies at least 3 times a week. Finally, I would like to go from 170 lbs to150 lbs.

Hope that I can work with all of you to meet our goals.

Well, I have been losing weight, but unfortunately, it has been because I have been so ill with a cold/flu virus that I haven't been eating much.

I am feeling better today but not well enough to work out. 2 weeks ago I was sick for almost a week and the day I felt better I pushed it and ended up sicker than I had been that first week!

HATE being sick!

Hi guys - mind if I hang out with you?

I'm 47, and hubby and I started trying to reduce our middles last week. We are following the Suzanne Somers plan (Somersizing). We had success with it several years ago, and never left it completely, but I guess we just cheated waaaaaaaaaay too much. :rotfl2:

So, it's back to the weight loss phase of the plan (basically a low carb, or only good carbs plan, along with a food combining element). My goal is to lose one pants size, and when I get there, I'll reevaluate to see if I want to lose farther or not.

Hubby and I are missionaries - we're based stateside, but we travel to Europe (mostly Ireland) roughly four times a year, for about 4 or 5 weeks at a time. Our next trip is coming up in mid September, and I'd love to reach my goal by then. It would be next door to impossible for us to maintain the weight loss phase of the plan while we're on our trips, but hopefully we can pull off maintenance level at least. Also looming on the horizon, waiting to throw a spanner in the works, is a trip to WDW we have planned for August, with the free dining (free dining = a combination of :yay: and :scared1: ). :rotfl:

Hello Everyone!
First of all, a big welcome to Tator Tot's mom, Susan, and Lite Brite. I look forward to getting to know each of you as we all loose ourselves down to healthier selves.

Dawn-sorry you have been so sick:sick: . Hoping you are feeling better soon!

As for me, I weighed in this morning and only lost 0.5. I am a little bummed since it is my last weigh in in June and means I won't be making my goal to loose 6 lbs in June. :sad1: The good news is that I lost weight every week this month and am down 4.5 lbs from where I started June 1st.:yay:

I didn't do as well last week as I would have liked exercise wise, and I made a few poor food choices over the weekend. I did go for a nice long walk today, to start the week out right.

I hope everyone is having a great week!

Do you have room for one more?!

I am 38 years old. I have two sons (ages 8 and 4). I work from home.

Both my DH and sons are very active. Since I work from home, I feel like all I do is work and take care of my kids. I really haven't allowed much time for myself the past couple of years and my weight has really skyrocketed!

When I was younger I was stick thin and never watched what I ate. I was so active that it didn't matter. Now when I see myself in pictures or the mirror, I can't believe I am the same person!

I would like to lose 30-40 pounds. I am going to try sticking to Weight Watchers and get more active. I have a membership to a local gym and am going to force myself to go!

It seems we are all in a similar situation and I hope we can all help each other!!

Welcome Deanna, LiteBrite, Slduck and Tater Tot's Mom!

Once again, I go away for a few days and there are more new faces. YAY!
It's horse show season so I've been busy. You'd think I would loose more weight, huh?

I'm still holding the weight I lost in my first month. Having TROUBLE carving out time for dedicated exercise although I am working ponies every day. Eating well is VERY time consuming for me. I need to get back on that, too.

I'm curious .... anyone know anything about some new weight loss drug ... alli or amli or something! I saw a big display at a local discount store. I'm not usually into that kind of thing. Have been meaning to check for info online, but I soooo needed to post another installment to my trip report elsewhere on the The Dis.

Hope to get in some walkng or swimming later this week.

Good luck to everyone!

Here's a thread about it from the Community Board - sounds like you might want to think hard about this before you use it! :scared1:

Can I join in too?
I am 33 y.o., 5'4" and am currently 185. Three weeks ago, I started eating correct protion sizes and more fruit and veggies and lost about 10 - 12 lbs., and now I need to start getting myself to the gym. I carry my weight well b/c I have a large frame, but for my wedding I was down to 165 and would like to actually see 150 or less (and size 8 or 6; currently I am a 10 or 12, depending on the style and fabric).
At the gym, I do the elliptical for 1 hr. total, plus about 30 minutes of strength training. I want to get in really good shape by the end of the summer, since DH and I are finally ready to start a family and I'd like to be in better shape (although the ob/gyn said to go for it now anyway and not to worry anout the weight too much).

Welcome Todd&Copper

I must say, your current situation is VERY similar to mine before my first pregnancy!

(although the ob/gyn said to go for it now anyway and not to worry anout the weight too much).

My doc said the same thing. I didn't even gain much during either of my pregnancies. My problem came some months after both pregnancies... new baby, busy job, show horses, etc. ... I gained weight between BOTH of our daughter's 4-5th and 18th months.

So ... think you are wise to get a groove going now. Best of luck to you.

After a GREAT May, I've struggled in June. For me, planning "good" meals takes much time IN ADDITION to actually preparing them. To excercise, I MUST get up early to walk or ride a bike as there is no other time window. In June, we've been on the road some and work has been busy, so I just haven't had the time. Also, my "early" time has been devoted to work in the barn and with the horses since it's the middle of show season. (When it's hot & humid, it's better to get up early and spend the first couple of hours in the day in the barn.)

Today, I finally stepped on the scales. Despite no real effort on my part recently, I am down another 1.5 lbs. It's the first time I've been under 205 in a LONNNNGGG time. So, I'm feeling a little more motivated today. We've got a big horse show to get through this weekend, then I'll be home for almost a month. Although I'll be busy with work and preparing for our final horse show in August, I hope to "correct" the diet portion of my effort. Excercise will, however, still be limited to the barn and horse work. My goal is to be under 200 before that final big horse show. As soon as we are through horse show season, I hope to spend my early morning time working again before school starts.

Would anyone like to do a roll call? I am new here and having hard keeping track of everyone.

I'll start...
slduck (susan) trying to lose about 20lbs by the end of next May. I have on track for 5 days.:cool1:

I'm Mimmy Mouse (Bette) would love to lose 10 lbs by October. I am 61 and have a thyroid problem that makes it hard for me to lose weight. But, I'm going to try.

I'm mom2alix (Rebecca) 30 something SAHM of 2 and trying to lose 50 lbs total. I have GOT to get the eating portion back under control. I don't eat terribly, but I have to really watch the calories if I want to lose weight. Right now, DH and I are using a trainer, so the exercise thing is going well. It's just such slow going and I'm not as patient as I should be. :rolleyes1

I've just seen the scale move for the first time this go round - I'm down 2 pounds this week. :hyper:

Happy Fourth of July everyone!!! pixiedust:
Pixie dust was the closest I could find to fireworks, lol.

I noticed the thread has been quiet for a few days... so I'll post an update on moi...

Ladies, I think you can identify with this... do any of you find that your weight fluctuates ridiculously esp with the hot weather? I think I need to work on drinking enough water because I think I hav a tendency to retain it.

Well, I feel much better even if the scale doesn't say so, just working out every day. I am skinny in my mind. :rotfl: I've been working out 6x/week. 3 days of cardio and 3 of weights or resistance (DH has a small weight set in the basement and an oooooold lat bar machine that he bought off a friend. They're not pretty but they get the job done). Sometimes with DS (he's almost 16 months old) I can only do a set or two at a time... but by day's end I get my workout done!
