A New Low in Adult Behavior at a Disney Resort

When I first read this, my first thought was they were trying to give this kid his bath. Are you sure one of them wasn't carrying some soap and a back scrubber? :rotfl:

I can't imagine why it was so important that the kid get into the hot tub that it was necessary to terrorize him and innocent bystanders.

Absolutely insane.

I bet I know why. The parents wanted to relax in the hot tub but they are stuck with the kid. So kid better get in to the hot tub too so they can keep an eye on him there. They think it is a small area and not too deep and "safer" than a pool. I don't know why he didn't at least have a swim suit on though. :confused3 But when kid didn't want to get in, he ruined their relaxing time so dad had to force the issue. Don't know why people like that even want to have kids. :sad2:

I don't use public hot tubs either because it feels too close to strangers for me. :crowded:

Our only reason for using the hot tub was that I suffered with a back ache (sciatica) the entire time we were away.

There are three hot tubs at Aulani. One is an infinity tub overlooking the sunset and it's two levels. The top level spills over into the lower level.

At the time I was in the hot tub, I wouldn't have cared if I was sitting in a bubbling tub of ebola virus. The water was nice and warm and the jets against my back felt great.

John and I were the only two in the tub.

The parents of the naked, crying, begging little boy were fully clothed and didn't seem to have any intention of joining us in the hot tub. The "mother" stood there with his bathing suit in her hand, so it wasn't as if he had come to Hawaii without one.

While I think a naked four year old in a public pool / hot tub is inappropriate, it wasn't the real cause of my irritation. Bullying the little boy into crying and begging was the real problem.

As I said....the "dad" kept telling him to "man up" and as he would cry, "dad" would belittle him for "annoying the people trying to relax". This went on for a couple of minutes before I couldn't take it anymore.

After "dad" made threats and made nasty comments, this was over and they disappeared. It was obvious that they knew they were in the wrong.

The next day I approached Disney management and asked if they had a rule about 4 year olds and hot tubs or 4 year olds and using hot tubs naked? I was met with a blank stare and "Disney speak".

"Well, we want all our guests to enjoy themselves and we feel that they should carry themselves in an appropriate manner and blah, blah, blah."

When pressed, they told me they didn't have a rule about children wearing bathing suits, but they felt that it was appropriate for a child to be wearing a suit.

When asked if that rule was for everyone, I got the "deer in the headlights look" and an "I don't understand the question".

I asked if this was the Disney / Aulani policy and was it ok if I splashed around the kiddie pool naked......as long as I enjoyed myself and carried myself in an appropriate manner.

Dead silence. Uncomfortable, awkward, dead silence.

I just gave up and walked away.

:rotfl2: Kevin, my whining about germ factories is obviously a generic position, YMMV.

:scared1:

Kevin, you handled it extremely well. I know that I am the type to let something like that eat at me--I'll grind on it all night long. I hate confrontations, and I just can't image people like that, and I have a hard time with it--especially, when Disney throws up their hands and would rather not deal with it. Good luck, and I hope your back is more and more on the mend. :thumbsup2

... Kevin, I know you're not a violent person, but at 6'6" why not just step on him?

I love how you put "mom" and "dad" in quotes, Kevin - too funny!

So sorry that your back bothered you throughout the trip - I know how painful (and frustrating/depressing) that can be.

Hilarious about your kiddie pool question! :lmao:

Looking (VERY) forward to the next podcast!

What a completely awful story. And the biggest loser is the poor kid who has to have those people as parents. :(

:rotfl: Sorry to laugh at your expense but this made me lol.

I hope it's finally feeling better now!

Sounds positively beautiful!!

:lmao: ...and this is where I spewed all over my computer! Thanks Kevin, for having my sense of humor!

I can SO.SO.SO.SOOOOOOO hear you saying this, and because of that, I almost just spit out my pear.

You are FAN-TASTIC!!!! :rotfl:

Those parents should be ashamed of themselves. Good for you for standing up to them! I think pushing them into the hot tub would have been quite appropriate as well.

We all had Kevin's back. Rest of the trip was all Jets vs. Sharks stuff. It was gonna be rumble in the jungle if we saw that dude again.

I swear there are signs that say kids of a certain age aren't allowed in hot tub? Besides isn't it dangerous for little kids to be in that hot of water? Also what really annoys me is the parents weren't watching their kid. Did they think others would want to watch over him? DH and I are childfree and realize that kids are everywhere but honestly there are places that really aren't appropriate for them and I think a hot tub is one of those places. Sorry that the father was so nasty to you. People really are nuts. :confused3

Hon, I'm a mother of two and I still think there are places that aren't appropriate for kids. It isn't a matter of you being a childfree meanie. ;) Yes, it is unhealthy and potentially unsafe to put a child that small in the hot tub. They can't regulate body temperature and don't have the experience to know when they've had enough. (Plus this kid wasn't being given the power to make that call for himself.) I let my kid (large for his age) into unoccupied hot tubs at the age of nine or so but certainly not at four and not when there were people who could be bothered.

So that's why "slap" is part of your board name. ;)

Kevin, you were right for speaking up! How many people would do that for a child? You are the best

Definitely a 'bully' dad, why in the world would he insist his child get in the hot tub!!! Makes no sense. Kevin, thank you for speaking up, although I'm sorry that the result was verbal abuse to you.

That poor child! If the verbal abuse towards him isn't enough, do a search on hot tub dangers to young children...not a place young children should be in as it is dangerous to them. Here is one exerpt from an article:

It is important that strict limits are placed on the time that children are allowed to stay in the hot tub. The smaller bodies of children will heat up faster than adults which can raise their internal body temperatures to dangerous or even fatal levels very quickly. Actual allowable time will be dependant on the temperature of the water.

I know this really wasn't meant to be funny, but oh my..it really makes me laugh.

As Mater would say: Ok, that's funny right there! :rotfl2: But it makes the point, at what age would they step in and say something? Their avoidance of confrontation when needed reminds me of a bad teacher who just lets the obnoxious kids run the class and tells everyone else to just try do their best to study. Everyone is happier when the rules are the same for everyone's enjoyment.

i dont know what bothers me more..the fact that theyre making a 4 year old get in or the comment about your orientation????
