A mommy, a daddy and 3 little princes...a dining review

We love Kona and it's a must do every trip. Enjoyed your review and keep it coming!

Hey lizzyb we had a couple of the same dinning places as you. We are looking forward to the rest of your reviews. That Big Kahuna the your DH ordered looks like my type of meal! :thumbsup2
Thanks for joining. Maybe we bumped into each other and didnt even know it ;)
Joining in! Dinner at Kona looks great!

What exactly is tonga toast?
Thanks jor joining. Tonga toast is 2 slices of sour dough dipped in egg like french toast and once cooked dipped in sugar/cinnamon. There is sliced banana between the 2 slices :)

Could be looks like we were all at DTD on the 2nd & the 3rd. We had dinner at Planet Hollowood on the 2nd after TL didn't even have my LGMH with me. On the 3rd we had dinner at Wolfgang Puck Cafe'. We went right after AK closed for the day. I still had my backpack and LGMH with me that time.

We were at Raglan rd on the 2nd around 6pm and missed you at Wolfgang on the 3rd.

Unfortunately coming from the warm heat in Florida to a cold from here in Canada I got sick. I am starting to feel better thankfully so will resume the reviews.

After breakfast we hopped on the monorail and headed to Epcot. It was very slow that day which was great. We went on some rides including soarin' which we love and finally took advantage on the baby swap which allowed all of us to go on. We then headed back to the resort for lunch at the Pepper Market.

I unfortunately kept on forgetting to take pics of our counter service.

DH ordered the Philly Cheesesteak which he really enjoyed. They were very generous with the cheese and it was made to order which made it that much better. I got the Beef Fajitas. The portion was HUGE. It was good but very oily. The rice that came with it didn't have much flavor. The boys got macaroni and cheese, a hotdog and chicken tenders. Again, very limited selection and the macaroni looked like it had been sitting there for awhile. The sides where orange slice, cookie or a bag of potato chips. Not impressed.
For our desserts we just went to the counter and got some chocolate cake. The selection was very limited and it took forever for someone to acknowledge me.

Overall I was not impressed with the pepper market. I much prefer the cafeteria style where I just go get my own stuff, pay for it and then sit down.

I took YDS to the room to see if we could get a nap while DH took the other boys swimming.

We then headed to Epcot for our dinner reservation at Chefs des Frances.

The line up was huge when we got there but thankfully after we checked in we waited maybe 5 minutes.

We were seated by a window which was great for people watching. Shortly after our waitress Justine came over to take our order. Once we had ordered she brought over some warm baguettes

These were very good but I wish the butter hadn't been frozen. Within minutes our appetizers came out. Dh and I both got the French onion soup
197.jpg

We both really loved it. I had never tried french onion soup before and thought there would be no better place to try it then there. It was perfectly seasoned and it had tons of gooey cheese.

Both boys got this cheese pastry. I can't seem to find it on the menus on here.
198.jpg

They both really enjoyed it. It came it warm with a small salad. This was a welcome change.

Shortly after our entrees came out.

DH got the Beef Short ribs
201.jpg

He seemed to enjoy it but said he probably wouldn't order it again.

I got the Roasted chicken.
199.jpg

The chicken was good but I didn't find that it had much flavor. The portion is HUGE. It is half a chicken.

ODS got the broiled fish
200.jpg

He really loved his meal and ate it all.

YDS got...
202.jpg

Surprise, surprise! Chicken tenders... althought this time it did come with pasta and sauce.

For dessert DH got Creme Brulee
206.jpg

He enjoyed it but says he has had better.

I got the Profiteroles au chocolate
204.jpg

These were soooo good. The pasty was fresh, they had the perfect amount of ice cream and the chocolate sauce was warm and oh so good! The white chocolate shavings were nice because they have a different texture.

ODS got ice cream.
203-1.jpg

and YDS got a chocolate chip cookie.

.
That sucker was huge and still warm. DS was only able to take a couple bites.

Service: This restaurant was busy and yet our waitress was always available when we needed her.

Food: We all enjoyed the meal here. I think both DH and would try something else next time but not because they weren't good.

Overall: I really enjoyed Chefs des Frances and especially loved the kids menu. I give this restaurant :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 1/2

FYI.... For those wondering.. DH and I ordered from the Prix Fixe 3 courses menu.

Hope you are feeling better now that you are starting to get used to your local weather.

Sounds like Chefs des Frances was not your favorite meal this trip. At Epcot we ate at Teppo Edo in Japan and was our best meal this trip.

It's funny I would remember to take pictures of our quick serve meals but forget our table serve meals until after we already started eating. At 50's Prime Time Cafe' I saw someone a few tables from me ordered the same thing I did. Before they could start eating I ran over their and asked if I could take a picture of their food.

Enjoying your review and an looking forward to your next "meal".

On a side note we are thinking of booking CSR for a few days next year just to relax and enjoy the resort before going home. That is my one regret that we did not plan time to relax at POR.

No, I actually really enjoyed the overall meal at Chefs des Frances. Thats funny about the picture... I would scope out what others were eating to see what I wanted to order. :rotfl:

CSR is a beautiful resort. You will love it.

Great review! :) We were surprised at how much we enjoyed Chefs on our last trip. We will definitely be back. Maybe lunch next time to try and see Remy.

Thank you. We were disappointed that we didn't see Remy but I didn't do my homework to find out when he makes his appearances.

That's a shame you didn't see Remy. We have eaten there 4 times and saw him twice. Looks like the bread has changed since we last ate there. I'm sorry you have been under the weather and glad to hear you are feeling better.

That lack of acknowledgement at the Pepper Market really got my goat. When I filled out the online survey about our stay, I mentioned about that. That was our only gripe with CSR. Everything else was awesome!

Thank you. I am feeling much better... just playing catch up now.

I didn't get an online survey or did you go somewhere to find it?

I love your reviews...thanks for taking the time to do this...as we all know it is a lot to do..
I love to read others opinions and reviews...

Enjoying the reviews! I love Les Chef french onion soup! I think I could make a meal out of it (for lunch) alone. I'm glad that Les Chef also fish for kids rather than Chicken Nuggets/Hot Dogs/Pizza.

Thank you very much.

Thank you! That soup was very good... that and the baguette would definately be enough for lunch.

We started off the day with breakfast in our room and the headed off to Hollywood Studios.

For lunch we stopped in at ABC Commissary. Again, no pics, sorry.

DH and I both had the Angus burgers with fries and for dessert we both had the chocolate mousse. The burger was good. It came with lettuce, onion, tomato, and pickles. It also had a sauce on it but I'm not sure what it was. It was an ok burger but I would have expected it to be better because it was angus?!

ODS had the turkey sandwhich with fries and MDS had chicken tenders:scared1:. They both enjoyed their lunch.

For dinner DH got to go to California Grill for a nice dinner. We travelled with my sister and her family and since she was celebrating her wedding anniversary during the trip she asked if I could stay with my niece while her and her hubby went out for dinner. Of course I said yes but the trade off was that she would stay with my kids for one night... and this was the night.

I have wanted to try California Grill for a long time and this was my opportunity.

Our reservation was for 7:40pm but we wanted to allow enough time for travel so we left the resort at 6:30pm. It was drizzling by the time we left the room so my spending time on my hair was pointless:rotfl: We didn't wait long for our bus to the Magic Kingdom and got right on the monorail. Unfortunately, one of the monorails ahead of us was having some technical difficulties and we were stopped for about 15min waiting for clearance. We still managed to get there on time but we didn't have time to check the place out.

After checking in and going up to the restaurant we sat down. After about 5 minutes our buzzer went off. We went to the hostess and she couldn't figure out why our buzer went off because our table wasn't ready. She felt horrible and told us to just wait a few minutes while they clear out a table. Ater about 5 minutes she comes back and apoligizes and tells us our table is ready and because of the inconvenience she got us a table beside the window. Prior to this, DH was saying how nice it would be to have one and I told him "good luck! Everyone wants one and I'm sure they try to give them to people celebrating something" As we head over to our table I could not believe the table we had, window with the perfect view of the castle:cheer2:

Our waitress Jillian came over to take our drink order. I ordered some wine, from what the receipt says it was Selbach Riesling. It was great, worked well with my appetizer.

Which was....

I have recently started to really enjoy sushi so when I booked the CG I knew I had to have some or my appetizer and based on the reviews that I read I knew it had to be the Spicy Kazan. This was just perfect. The tempura added a nice crunch, the sauce was nice and spicy. It could not have been any better, hands down the best sushi I have had todate!

DH got the Three Cheese Flatbread.
269.jpg

He really enjoyed it. DH is a simple man and wasn't sure how he would like the sundried tomato arugla pesto but I assure him it would be ok :rotfl: I did get a bite from him and it was very taste, the perfect balance of cheese and that pesto added that little umph.

For the mains I was really debating what to order because I had seen the pork and the beef on many reviews and both looked amazing. After I knew that DH was getting the beef I knew I would get the pork. DH then realized that I did that because then I could get the best of both worlds.:rotfl2:

271.jpg

DH really enjoyed his beef. It was perfectly cooked and the mascarpone mashed were very tasty. I would say that this was a good steak but I found it a bit sweet which I do not enjoy in my food.
270.jpg

My Pork tenderloin with the goat cheese polenta was amazing! The pork was soo perfectly cooked, it just melted in your mouth. I had never had polenta but I do enjoy goat cheese so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was oh so good. It had a very strong goat cheese flavor but because the pork was mild flavored it made for the perfect combination. The glaze was also very good. I was soo glad I ordered this over the beef.

We ordered out desserts and Jillian asked them if we wanted them during or after Wishes as it would be starting soon. We asked for during... whats better than dessert while watching fireworks at disney? Nothing.

DH got the Tanzanian Chocolate creme brulee.
275.jpg

He enjoyed this but I know he got it more for me because I was debating between the creme brulee and the Valrhona Chocolate Cake. It was very tasty and I'm a huge chocolate an but I think I prefer the regular creme brulee(or the Kona one ;) )

In the end I did order the Valrhona Chocolate Cake.
276.jpg

This was a little bit of heaven. The warm cake with the creamy strawberry ice cream with some strawberry pieces on the side. It was soo chocolatey, I was in heaven.

Service: Jillian was a great waitress very attentitve but not overbaring. The woman that ended up getting us the better table was actually the manager but I did not get her name. I would have never expected to get a better table because of a small mix up but it sure was nice of them to do. It really shows that they want to exceed the customers expectation by going that extra step. I didn't even think of it as a big deal and my impression of the restaurant surely wouldn't have changed if they didn't do that.

Food: This was my absolute favourite meal of our trip. They definately want to present you with a great meal here.

Overall:
From beginning to end it was perfect and the fact that we didn't have the kids probably helped. I cannot wait to go back.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 And an extra for good measure :thumbsup2

Congrats on the window table! Do you have pics of your view? The food looks wonderful! I love sweet with meat, so I bet I'd love the beef!
