A little parking tip....

Given the fact that you threatened them with a class action lawsuit, I believe "scam" fits what you felt happened to a T.

:D

I said that if they were told about the overcharging and DIDN'T fix it, then I would INVESTIGATE a POSSIBLE class action lawsuit by the HUNDREDS or THOUSANDS of guests who potentially have been overcharged. I think that's reasonable.

Roy

So you think threats investigation for class action lawsuit is an appropriate response for your first call to Disney regarding the problem?

I would also like to add that the kiosk guys at the parking lot may be bound to follow the times on the tickets. If I knew I was correct, but my ticket said elsewise, I would have paid the money while asking them to note the problem. I would have called Disney and explained the problem. (without the threats) and asked for a follow up after the investigation of the problem.

What about getting in your car and leaving the parking lot 5 minutes before your time is up, then going right back into the entrance to get another free three hours? I know it may not be worth the hassle...and keep in mind that I have never been to DL before so I have no clue how close the entrance and exit is (but I am going soon!). Just a thought!

Yeah, but what if you left 5 minutes early (by your watch) and the clock on the way out was 6 minutes fast? You'd be charged $2. This was my point, that these clocks are not synched and it's impossible to know when your time is up. Yeah, yeah....I know that I could leave 20 minutes early to make sure, but that's not the point. The point is that Disney has probably collected thousands of dollars from guests over the almost three years of DD because of clocks that weren't synched to the same time.

I made management aware of this problem about two weeks ago and as of today, the clocks were STILL not synched and I have received no communication from anyone at Disney. I submit that the clocks will remain unsynched because it favors Disney and makes them extra money.

I would rather give my $2 to charity. I propose that Disney give all of the money that they have collected through the errant clocks to charity. It should be pretty easy for them to figure out how much that amount of money is. All they have to do is determine how many minutes the clocks are off and have their computers search the daily tickets and come up with the number of people that were charged for being over the amount of time that the clocks were off. If the clocks are determined to be 3 minutes off, then any ticket that was charged for 3 minutes or less would be added up. This way, you don't need to find the individuals who where wrongly charged. Disney could just make a contribution in the determined amount to a charity. In my business, (finance) this is called "disgorgement of ill gotten gains".

If these clocks aren't fixed in a couple of more weeks, I'll bring this up to the Orange County Register and let them check it out.

Roy

Is the problem that the two clocks are not the same, or that the exit clock is fast? If the problem is just that the two clocks are not the same, but the exit clock still stamps you out three hours after you arrive, why not just look at your own clock when you arrive and then make sure you leave 3 hours later.

Personally, I'd just buy a Premium AP that includes parking in the Eisnerplex, or I'd go out of my way not to cut it so close. But that's just me.

The exit clocks are 3 minutes faster than the entrance clocks. This effectively makes it 2 hour and 57 minute free parking instead of the posted 3 hours. You don't think it makes a difference? I've already been charged twice for being over the three hours (once for 2 minutes and once for three minutes) and I am quite sure that I'm not the only one this has happened to. What's making the situation worse is that now they (Disney management) has been informed about this (by me, about two months ago) and they have not fixed it. This appears to me to be a situation that Disney doesn't want to fix or they would have by now.

I'm glad you don't mind paying for things you shouldn't have to, but I won't.

Well since you do know this and then why not "know" that you only have 2 hrs. 55 mins to do your shopping/eating? Or as pennyring suggested just park in the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure if you think you may need more then 2 hrs. 55 mins?? Or if you are going to eat there, have them validate your parking ticketing which will allow you (I believe) a total of 4hrs. 57mins (5hrs).

Because that would not fuel his potential class action lawsuit.

It's kind of blowing me away that anyone would try to justify Disney charging for something in error. I didn't expect a DEBATE on this, I was merely letting people know about so they would question a charge for being over 3 minutes in the DD parking lot. I was also posting that I have made Disney aware of this and they have not fixed it. I don't really see the debate. If you want to pay the $2 even though it's an error, go right ahead. I personally, would never knowingly let anyone overcharge me. I hate throwing away money.

Woo Hoo! Thanks for posting that there was a parking lot for Downtown Disney parking. It really came in handy for me last week. I thought I would have to park in the big parking structure and found I didn't!

Thanks for the money saving tip! BTW, I was gone before I had to worry about the two or three minute discrepency. But, I appreciate you letting us know about that too!

Yeah, it comes in really handy when you want to go to DD. Thanks for the appreciation!

Roy, nobody is justifying Disneys behavior. I question your approaching it as (yet another) Disney "scam" and stating that you are considering a class action lawsuit.

Don't be surprised if some consider your history of Disney bashing posts and take your "helpful hints" with a grain of salt.

I use that lot on the last day of every trip (just got back Wednesday) and cut it close every time. I have yet to have be charged. But then again, I don't go out of my way to make sure I cut it close either.

I am curious if Disneychrista was correct in the validation at a resturaunt buying you an extra 2 hours. That would be wicked cool! Does anyone know?

year2late,

Yes, I believe that you can get an extra 2 hours with a restaurant validation. However, I don't know if all the restaurants participate or only a few. I know that I asked about validation at the World of Disney store and they do not validate for parking.

From Disneyland.com :
Downtown Disney® District Parking
Self-parking: Your first three hours of parking are FREE. An additional two hours can be validated at AMC® Theatres and at table-service dining restaurants.

Sweet. We tend to only use that lot the morning of our departure (last meal and last minute trip to Lego Store) But for five hours (even 4 hours and 57 minutes)free parking...that is worth changing a few plans!

Thanks!:earsgirl:
