A little nervous about August trip!

I'm trying not to worry about it as I just talked to someone we know who's been to Disney a number of times in August. She said more or less what everyone else said and that was take your rain gear and enjoy the fact that everyone clears out of the parks. She said she takes their water shoes and they tromp around in those. Not sure I would bother as I"m sure it will be ok to get wet feet in our walking sandles.
Just keeping my fingers crossed we don't get any big storms but as long as we can get there then we should be ok. :thumbsup2

So very relieved to hear some positive reports concerning weather in August. We aren't headed there until August of 2014 and I am stressing about it already, wondering whether we made a good choice. We have a few days ahead of our Dream cruise booked in Orlando, as well as a couple of days following. We last visited in March 2011, and mother nature was not our friend on our last trip unfortunately. Our day at Busch Gardens was a complete wash...we experienced torrential downpours about 15 minutes after we arrived that continued for the entire day, and on and off for several days of our vacation. In fact, it continued even as we embarked on our first Dream cruise later that same week...such a huge disappointment. So looking forward to getting the chance to visit Busch Gardens again (only spent about two hours there last time and spent an hour of that waiting for the train which, once we got on, dumped us across the far end of the park, as it had to stop due to rain...spent the last half hour walking back to the gate to go "home"). Fingers crossed that we will make it to Castaway Cay as well. Although this isn't our first trip for most of us, this will be the first for my son and his daughter. This is her 5th Birthday present from us before she starts Kindergarten in the fall.

Try not to worry too much. There's still plenty to do even if the sky opens up! This year will be the fifth time we've been to the world in late August. We were there in August 2011 and were watching the trajectory of the hurricane on the weather channel all week as we were scheduled to go on a cruise. The cruise still happened but we weren't able to go to Castaway Cay as it took a direct hit from the hurricane. The first night at sea was ROUGH but we still had a great time. We also landed in 2008 during Tropical Storm Faye. Yes there was plenty 'o rain, but as others have noted, make sure you bring your poncho and you're good to go!

What's a bit of water to us Canucks! :)

We were at WDW during Hurrican Charlie. Trust me..should you end up at WDW during a storm of any kinds...Disney is the BEST place to be!! We didn't lost power once! Parks closed early..restaurants shut down early too so that everyone was in their hotel room. The next morning I couldn't believe the mess outside..but we were ALL totally safe.

:thumbsup2

That would have been Irene. I was still at Disney but so many people where we were staying were stuck there because they couldn't get home. I talked to one lady who showed me pictures on her phone of her completely flooded basement. She was so upset:guilty:

And I don't even know if I would have been able to get on that horrible bumpy flight home. :scared:

Could have been worse. We were doing B2B cruises on the Disney Dream. Let's just say the first night there were a lot of green people on the ship. A few of them even got off the boat the next afternoon in Nassau. This will be year number 5 of August trips. Irene was the only storm we have dealt with.

True that!!! It was something sillly like 8 or 10 degrees here this morning........brrrrrrrrrrr!

It's 14 here right now but we've had rain and thunder on and off since last night. Hope it clears by game time as there is nothing worse then a football game in the rain! I however will be working at one of the food boths as a fundraiser for my DD grade 12 Europe trip...she will not be there to help as she has an exam tomorrow! The things we do for our kids! Oh well Go Riders!:cheer2:

We are also going to be arriving August 15...a little worried about the storms as well. The heat will be nice, and if anyone here is from Alberta I think we may have experienced a taste of the heat the last two days!:)

The heat yesterday made me miss Disney World even more! No Splash Mountain or Kali River Rapids to cool off and worse...no Dole Whip!

We had it here in Northern BC as well. While at the park for Canada Day, I was telling the kids that DL would be quite similar - hot, lots of people, line ups for everything, etc. I think the 6yo might now understand why I have been teaching him about walking close to me.
