We are trying to plan a trip for the end of August. From what I am understanding it would be best for us to make our reservations for the resort separate from getting the park tickets. True? Also I have been reading that some great discounts can be given for AP holders. I have also read that I can buy the AP and activate it on the first day of the trip. If I do not activate it until then would I still be able to get the discount? Please help me out - I am so confused!!!!

I'll try to answer... someone correct me if I'm wrong - (I've only booked packages, pay in full at the time of booking, and have never had to cancel.)

Some people like to make a "room only" reservation to make sure they get the resort of their choice. This requires one night's deposit. As long as you cancel within 5 days (I think it's 5) of your arrival, you'll get a complete refund. If you book a package, it requires a $200 deposit and there is a cancellation charge. (I think it's $50)

A CM once told me it basically comes down to this... If you are adding $$$ to your reservation, there is no charge, like changing from room only to a package, but if you are downgrading, which means less money will be involved, there will be a cancellation charge.

The difference in price for a room and ticket package -vs- booking room and ticket separately, should be next to nothing, unless you are buying the tickets from an agency other than Disney.

*If you are interested in the dining plan* You can only book the Dining Plan with a package, the package must include at least a 1 day ticket, and everyone in the room must be on the same package. (If one or more in your party has an AP, you will still need to purchase 1 ticket to be consider a package.)

I believe you are correct about the AP and the time of activation.

Only one person needs to have an AP to receive the discount.

With an AP, you can purchase the Disney Dining Experience card.

From what I've read, some people were not happy about the 2008 AP discount.

Some people like to make a room only reservation (with or without a room only discount... AP or AAA) and then wait and watch for a discount code to come out. If one is released, you can call and have it applied to your room reservation or upgrade to a package, if it is available for your dates and resort.

You can only apply one discount.

I'm another newbie; this is my first Disney trip since 1990. But here's my 2 cents anyway.

Be sure to take a look at the AAA discount. We've saved a decent amount of money from the rack rate.

Then find the August codes thread here. If and when a discount code is released, you'll find it there; perhaps it will be cheaper than the AAA discount we already have.

Where are you planning to stay?

Based on what I just read- it is possible that even though I booked my preferred room at the CBR for middle of Jan 2008 and paid the deposit (bought my 4 day hopper passes from a friends daughter who works for Disney) it is possible that there may be a code/discount available that would still apply?

I read through the posts (well not all of them cause there are soo many) but I don't see anything for CBR for Jan 2008 but I am a first timer to this site and to Disney so I could have totally missed something. :confused3

thank you all for your help- I am so excited but very overwhelmed!

Yes, it is still possible (To receive this discount, you must book before Dec. 15) or would be possible except...

<<"(bought my 4 day hopper passes from a friends daughter who works for Disney)">>

The current discount code that I am aware of is... a free upgrade to hoppers and water park tickets, and a slight discount on the room, when purchasing a package. So, if you have already purchased your tickets, this discount package wouldn't work for you.

Do you have AAA? If so, you can get a "room only" discount... usually about 20% off during the middle of Jan.
