Well, I felt guilty for hijacking other people's PTR's (Thanks Jordan, Winkers, Rosie, Blueyed Girl, and Punkin!
) and decided I would attempt a PTR and hopefully a TR when I return.
So let me give you the details:
Who: Just me (Jessica) and my Dad (Ray)
When: January 30-February 6
Where: Disney World of course! But we are staying at the Pop
What: FIRST EVER Father/Daughter Trip
Why: Because my Dad has worked hard his entire life for all of us
History Lesson
So here's the story of a lovely lady (that's me) hold on, that song won't work, I'm not bringing up ANY girls, I have 2 boys whom I have taken to Disney World two September's in a row now. They are properly trained in the way of the Dis as all Dis-sons should be.
So my wonderful husband and I waited until our youngest was 8 to bring them both the Disney two years ago. It was to be the {insert loud, booming, James Earl Jones Voice here } "TRIP OF A LIFETIME" as DH had no plans to return for many, many years.
I have been a Disney fan my entire life but had to curb my enthusiasm for several years to raise my babies into proper young gentlemen. I couldn't wait to go back, but we didn't want to spend a bunch of money on a trip they wouldn't remember (keep in mind, we didn't plan to go back for a long time). So our 2008 trip came and went, we had a blast, but I felt like we missed soooo much and I was hooked again (can you say relapse?)
So I talked DH into another trip the next year. Things happened career wise for him that made us think in January we weren't going to be able to go in September (I won't go in the summer) so we told the boys we were going to have to cancel. They understood and we started planning a trip to NY/DC for early June instead. Late January I still was in the closet looking at travel supplies for our May trip and came across my Disney backpack, stocked and ready to go and I sat down on the floor of the closet and cried.
My wonderful husband found me and said I should plan a trip for myself (he knows I have always wanted to do a solo trip). I gave him a big ole smooch
and I was super excited for about a day, then the guilt hit me.
I couldn't tell my kids we had to cancel, then go myself, it was just wrong, and I wouldn't enjoy myself. So I talked to DH and he told me to go with the boys if I wanted to, he would survive. I told him I thought it would be super fun to surprise them and he said there was no way I could keep it a secret for that long.
Long story short (too late) I DID keep it a secret, DH ended up being able to go with us after all and we had another totally magical trip in 2009!
Wellllll, every time we showed my Dad our pictures, pins, souvenirs, etc. he acted kind of funny. One day the boys were showing him the watches they had bought and he ran to his bedroom to brink out the Seiko gold mickey mouse watch he bought and is "saving" for when he retires (not likely to happen by the way). I looked at the watch and it looked kind of familiar, I asked where he had found it. He said, "Oh, I bought it the last time we were there." So I start thinking and that was October 1994!!!
For some reason, it totally slipped my mind that just because I had been back to Disney, Dad had NOT! Well, I tried to arrange for all of my sisters and their families to go on a trip with mom and dad, but nobody was interested.
Mom said she didn't want to go unless it was with all of the grandkids so I talked to DH about me taking Dad, just the two of us on a trip. He agreed
so on December 15 (the day before final payment was due just in case Dad said no) I surprised Dad with his trip. He said yes and is as excited as a little kid about the trip! I feel like I am babbling, so I will stop here, but next time I will update with HOW I surprised Dad and a few pictures.
