A horse for DD! .......UPDATE! pg 5

She looks like a great horse, I like her body language and the way she's carrying herself.

agnes!

Best wishes to your DD! I'm sure she's on cloud nine! And tell your DH thanks for all of his sacrifices. He should know that he is appreciated.

Thank you swanmom, I'll tell him.

:)

MM-I used to go to sleep away Knights of Columbus camp for one reson-I could ride a horse every day:lovestruc We had 7 one hour activities-including canoeing, archery, art, volleyball, swimming...

I figured out IF I got first in the line-to make the circle on the path we took (5 horses-liike 15 girls in my hour there) I could get BACK in the line and sometimes grab a second ride:love::laughing:

wow she is so pretty!! Hopefully your walk will calm her down a bit! Hopefully I can find something similar for my dd6!! Although we just might buy another fjord~ Right now at the barn where we ride, we have 8!!

How amazing! What a lucky girl...

I am not going to show my DD11 this post - she wants a horse so badly. She has been taking riding lessons for nearly a year now - both English and Western at this point and we have stepped up her lessons because she is so in love with riding.

We are a long way from a horse though - maybe one day...

Best of luck!

I love fjords. I like that drafty look.

She's home! Here are a few pictures. She isn't a happy camper right now. She had to leave her buddies and had to spend the night in the round pen, because we didn't want to let her out with her new herd in the dark. So today we are going to go out and rescue her for a while and take her for a walk of the farm.
DD was so happy when they brought her that she couldn't talk. All she could do was grin and cry.:cloud9:

The only downside is that Dh couldn't be there. I feel so bad for him. He called Thursday night (he's in Afghanistan) and tried to sound happy, but I could tell it was crushing him that he couldn't be there to see DD with her first horse.

 You gave me goosebumps!

Wow! Gorgeous! Is she yours?

yes, she is mine:love: I got her when she was 6 months old :cool1: she just turned 8 in Feb! the picture is from a show 4 years ago, I was pregnant with Chase so she was shown by the girl in the picture for me.

here are some more pictures of fjords. they are not all from our barn though...

What a beautiful horse (and daughter :goodvibes). You can see the pure joy on your daughter's face.

This pulls at my heartstrings as she looks very similar to my first horse. I have so many fond memories of spending time at the barn as a child. I would sit in my horse's stall and just share all the teen angst of the moment. She would come over and nuzzle me. I swear that mare understood what I was saying.

I hope your daughter's horse brings her all the joy and memories mine did. A girl and her horse are a very special pair.

Thank you. I can't wait to see her under English saddle. I think they will match up beautifully.

I hope so too.:goodvibes I've always wondered why girls are so drawn to horses. I was, am still.

Congrats!!! :cool1: I have been looking for a pony for my daughter for the last year and I havent found anything even remotely possible for my dd6. All the ones we looked at are either crazy (or half dead) or over $6000 For that price I would rather buy another Fjord!!! ( and we would except I havent found that would work yet!! plus they are a bit too tall). We did find a few 1 year leases but I want something to keep not something we have to give back in a year!!!

What about this guy? He's adorable.

Last week I was talking to a coworker/friend about looking for a horse for DD. I haven't found anything that I would trust for her in our price range (we are in the budget range). I was going to drive several hours away to look at a horse this weekend. Later she caught me in the hall and told me that her kids were done with 4H and they were looking to find a new good home for their horses. She offered to GIVE one of them to me. I was floored. We went to see her and she is wonderful. 9 years old, 15.1 or 2 with a sweet temperament.

She is a little taller than I wanted, but DD will grow into her. The only obstacle is that she is a western horse and DD rides English, but we will send her to the trainer and her instructor will work with us on transitioning her. In the mean time DD will still ride a lesson horse in jumping class. She hasn't made the move to the boarding farm, but we spent a few hours with her this weekend grooming her and DD took a bareback ride on her in the pasture.

I can't believe the generosity of this family. She wouldn't have brought a whole lot at sale, but still it was so incredibly thoughtful. And I'm so touched that they trusted us with their four legged family member. What should I do to thank them?

very nice. what does the 15.1 or 2 mean?

That's her height. They are measured in "hands" (each hand is 4 inches) at their withers which is the prominent bone between the base of the neck line and the spine. So 15 hands is 60 inches at the withers. 15.1 is 61 inches.

I'm not sure what this horse's height is. I haven't measured her, so I'm just guessing.

Now why isn't your DD riding her for shows?

she has for leadline but she wants to start walk trot soon and while gwennie is very good for a experienced rider, she likes to stop and visit if she knows she doesnt have a strong rider..
