I am bereft and don't really know where to turn. My beloved Uncle died tonight. He was diagnosed with Alzhimers in May and it progressed rapidly. More rapidly than I have EVER seen. He went to being fine, to confused, to not knowing anyone, to his organs shutting down.:guilty:

My Aunt is a RN (he was an OBGYN) and is trying to keep it together. I want to do something special for her. I would like to do a collage of his pictures with "I believe" by Diamond Rio playing in the background. My mother thinks this might be too painful. I don't know, I thought it was sweet, thoughts?

I'm very sorry for your loss. I was at a funeral recently where a video montage was shown at the funeral - it was really well done, and nice because it shared so many happy memories.

Not knowing your aunt, I couldn't say how the collage would go over right now. But if now is still to painful, she would probably really treasure it later.

Very sorry to hear that, EB.'s Your love and memories of you uncle sound so warm.

I did go and play that song just now. It has a very comforting lyric and thought behind it. That, with your collage, may be a very lastly tribute. Sad? Sure. But wonderful at the same time.

Again, my condolences.

I am so sorry.

I had never heard it happen that fast either.
I think she will love your gift. Yes, it may be very painful, but beautiful and helpful at the same time. It will help you as well as you create it.
It will be something she treasures forever.

She may not be ready to watch it right now, so I would look at it as a gift that may not be appreciated now, but will be in the future.

I'm so sorry for your family's loss. :grouphug:

I think the video montage is a fantastic idea. When my mother died, the funeral home did this for us. My sister and I found it very cathartic going through all of my parents' pictures to try to find the right ones. At the viewings, they kept the montage playing both days on a television set at the back of the room. People would stand around it and remember how she was in the past. I haven't watched it since the funeral, but it was a wonderful thing for us.

Again, I am so sorry.

I am so sorry :(
The montage might be rough and too soon right now, but I think it'd make a lovely Christmas gift, and she can watch it when she's ready

The thing with grieving people is that they're so full of grief that they cannot be counted upon to react to anything in a normal or even rational way. If there is any tiny little thing she doesn't like about the collage, she might hate it with a violent passion and feel even worse. And hold it against you.

But she might like it. There's just no telling.

Best to err on the side of caution there, IMO.

If making it helps you, then make it. But hold off on giving it to her. And I wouldn't give it as a Christmas gift. She might be having a moment when she's not absolutely miserable and nothing stops that it its tracks like, "Merry Christmas! Here's a reminder of your grief!" I'd just do it when she stops by the house or whatever at some point in the future.

That's my $.02, anyway.

I'm very sorry to hear about the death of your uncle and will say a prayer for your family.

I'm sorry about your uncle. I think your idea is good. It is always important the good memories people left behind are you doing to make a DVD of it.

My condolences on your loss. I think your idea is a good one, and she'll appreciate it for different things. Sometimes to cry and sometimes to smile.
