Mine snatched a piece of peparoni pizza a bit ago... we're all paying for it!

This is Star. She's a lab/chow mutt that Santa rescued. ;)

Awww.....

When Sophia is toddler might try to find another toddler....it would be good for her to have a playmate and I could sure use the income..even if just a little. Do not want to get NC certification..I'm too anti-establishment- but do have the criminal checks done.

So here is what I know (having been dealing with the Great State of NC for 6 months now.)

You can keep 2 children NOT RELATED TO YOU without being licensed, certified, etc. No criminal check, paperwork... nothing. Sophia is related, so is not included in your count. 3-5 kids and you must be licensed as a small home daycare. Long story short, it is a huge hassle and almost impossible. 6 and up you must be a licensed facility with all the health and daycare inspectors through your home yearly... the whole 9 yards.

I had been keeping 5 for forever - 3 full time, and 2 part timers that came opposite days. I charge $150/week, which is competitive in my area. If I keep more than 2 and get caught, it is a felony and I will be arrested... so don't keep more than 2!

Hey Kathy... where is Buzz lately? I haven't seen him post in a very long time.

Thanks! Absolutely no desire to go through all of that. I was licensed in MA for almost 20 yrs- yearly inspections and all the rest.

Figured I do the criminal checks for the parents peace of mind...but I'll not care for more than one, possibly 2 more.

When I closed in Boston I charged $200 a week -that was 1998. The thing about child care - no matter how good, even cream of the crop...the rates do not go up much more..even now, I'd likely not be charging more than $225 in Boston. I was thinking of $35 a day here.(but maybe I should charge less?)...so far the mother's I've spoken with found that to be a great rate...but I haven't accepted anyone yet. Mia's midwife (from the Birth Center in Chapel Hill) refers new moms to me when they ask if she knows anyone.

How do you find children?

Kathy... I PMed you back.

I generally put a sign out near my neighborhood. It just says Home Daycare and my #. I get about 10 calls to inquire about prices for every 1 that wants an interview. Almost always if they come for an interview, then they will take my spot. Right now I have a set of 21 month old twins. Where do you live in the Triad? You could call childcare centers and other home providers to find out the going rate in your area. I am on the outskirts of Raleigh, but in the Garner/Clayton area which is very rural. If I were in Cary, I could easily get $225 a week.

Got it...and responded.

I'm going to bed everyone. Getting up early to take DH to breakfast for Father's Day before he goes to ump four baseball games.

Happy Father's Day to all your hubbies!

I won't let anyone come for an interview until after I interview them on the phone. Because I was by referral the mother's who called already wanted me, but I was picky (as I am sure you are as well).

I'm in Greensboro in an kind of middle to mostly upper middle (and up) income subdivision. Have done lots of checking - upscale centers charge $250 (2009 rates) for a newborn which slowly levels off at $175 for 3/4/5 yr olds. Mid range charge $187 (2007/08 rates)for infants and level off at around $140 for preschoolers.

I was thinking $35 a day no matter the age, that way no changes.

One issue is being in this subdivision b/c it is at the SW corner of Greensboro on the Jamestown/High Point line - I've had calls from mother's who are in the NW and this is too far. I'm not ready yet - Sophia co-sleeps with her parents and is just beginning to nap in a crib...mostly on my bed or on me still. Until she is napping in a crib it would be near impossible to take another baby.

Thanks so much, Kari!! :flower3:

Uhh, do I dare ask who Buzz is?

Wow. Your childcare is expensive! A fulltime spot here goes for $100-125 a week. Max. Then again, we are the most dirt poor province in the country. My oldest step daughter with just a high school education and esthetician diploma is out in the western part of Canada working as a beauty advisor in a drug store. She is making more money than I do/did and I have a college diploma and a university degree. It's depressing! And, I work for a fortune 500 company! I need to get thee heck out of this province.

Night whoever is signing off. My insomnia is kicking in again. Sigh.

For some unknown reason I am still here..I'll still be paying for it on Monday morning!!

Whatcha have for supper? We had Chinese:)

Oooh. You are going to turn into a pumpkin soon! In about 10 minutes.

We had hawaiin pizza and garlic cheese fingers. Went straight to my tushie and then some! Tomorrow is t-bone and lobster and baked taters. Yum!

Night Kathy. Enjoy your breakfast tomorrow! And get some time in for yourself!

Christine... I hear ya waiting until Sophia is older. I always do a phone interview before letting them come to my house, too. I keep refernces available for those that are interested, but have turned some down if I didn't think they were a good fit. I charge $30/day here, and do not change my price either. All kids bring their own diapers and wipes, and infants bring their own formula and baby food. I supply table food once they reach that point. I have them eat breakfast at home, then I give them a snack and lunch. I do not do a "schedule" or any formal activities. We have outdoor time, read books if they ask, coloring, play dough, etc. They do not watch hardly any TV at my house. I keep most kids from birth - 4 yrs, but I encourage them to go to preschool the last year before Kindergarten. Anyway... feel free to ask me anything!

I think I am heading off to bed, too. Sitting in 97 degree heat for 4.5 hours today has gotten the best of me! :scared: Chat with you all tomorrow!

Uhh, do I dare ask who Buzz is?

Buzz was a poster that loved CSR, and would post about it often. He had a really cool website, too. Apparently he and some other DISers didn't play nice, and they are no longer here. :scared:

Yup. Never a good idea to order that in a restaurant unless you know you like it. We are the lobster capital of the world. My eating record is 13 canners. Yup. ::yes::

Oh my! That's too bad. Thanks for answering. Have a good night and sweet dreams.
