a girls-only birthday weekend w/ the mouse! MY TR HAS MOVED...LINK IN MY SIGGIE

finally, this came in the mail today. i saw it on hottopic.com the other day and i couldn't resist.......i'm such a dork. :cool2:

Picture023.jpg

i think i'm wearing this with white shorts even though it's after labor day. i already asked tara if she thought this was a huge fashion crime and she said no. i mean.......it's disney, right? have you guys SEEN what people wear there?????? :lmao: and of course i'm gonna order those black alice crocs to go with that outfit!!! :rolleyes1

OMG! I saw that on the Hot Topic site, and I almost ordered it! It is SO cute! And someone else may have said this already (I skimmed a little to catch up! :scared1: ), but white is OK after Labor Day according to What Not to Wear! ;) I'm sure I'll be wearing white at some point on our trip too.

thanks for all your transportation issue suggestions! i'm still on the fence. it may come down to flipping a coin!

tara - i got your text today. so cute! i have the beauty and the beast broadway soundtrack in my car right now and it's getting me excited, too!

i just wanted to tell everyone that i won't be around until probably late sunday night. DH and i are leaving for a weekend in savannah tomorrow after work. i'll take pics and do a mini TR for ya! we're eating at the lady and sons on friday for lunch.....let's hope i don't gain 10 pounds in one sitting! and of course i will take food porn pics there!

i hope everyone has a good weekend!!! wish me safe travels. :flower3:

Safe Travels! :wave2:

So, you're looking at about a $12 difference in gas. I wouldn't mind spending $12 to be more comfortable and to feel safer in a larger vehicle.

I totally agree with this statement and would 2nd it. Being in a smaller car leaves you more vulnerable, and your comfortable in the vehicle because you drive it all the time. Plus it's Disneyfied already.:thumbsup2

Can't wait to hear about you weekend trip. Since your so familiar with Savannah, do you think it would be a good place to go for a girls get-together or is it too romantic? My DBFF and I like to try new places to visit and she lives in Birmingham, AL. We love checking out the coastal towns! Have a safe and wonderful getaway.

I also agree with this statement as I saw it on What Not to Wear, Stacy and Clinton know best.:happytv:

i'm back!!! we had a nice, relaxing time. although we're both sick now....:sad2: i started feeling icky on friday night and yesterday DH had gotten "something" to. now we're both congested and just.....ick. anyway, it was kinda nice to just do a good bit of nothing but relax. i'll have more later when i get a chance to upload some pics.

yes, it's definitely a fun place to go for the girls! i actually saw a bachelorette party walking down river street last night. it is a romantic city, but it's also lots of fun. there's always some sort of live music or festival on river street and city market has always got something going on, too. and tybee island is 20 minutes away if you wanted to hit the beach during the day!

Welcome back!!! :goodvibes Sorry to hear that you're both sick.... Can't wait to hear about Savannah! One of my friends lived there for a few years and still continues to rave about it......we have yet to make it there.

SHOPPING UPDATE!!!!!

guess what came in the mail on wednesday???? my alice crocs! :woohoo: they are super cute and i just love them. i wore them all day today and they were just as comfortable as my caymens and my MJs. check 'em out....

Picture026.jpg

here i am modeling them. toe cleavage!!!

Picture025.jpg

Picture027.jpg

i just love 'em. now i have to have a pair in every color. if only they didn't cost $30 a pop!

:yay: 21 MORE DAYS!!!!!! :yay:

Oooohhhhh, they do look nice. I guess I will have to try them! (I finally mad eit over to your Pre TR!!!)

change in plans....nothing huge, but worth mentioning. tara called me on friday and decided she's going to leave on monday night instead of tuesday. that doesn't change mine and erin's plans in the least, but it does change our dining credits because now we'll have 3 days of DDP instead of 4. but it all worked out because we're just going to pay OOP for the kona breakfast, which isn't expensive at all. so it's all good! plus that means that we'll each save $38.99 for one less day of DDP money!

MINI SAVANNAH TR - PART 1

i promised you guys a mini TR from the savannah trip, so here ya go....

thursday - we left thursday around 2:30 and had an easy drive down to savannah, arriving around 7:00. here are the doggies sleeping in the car. they actually fell asleep like this!

Picture014-2.jpg

we had made arrangements to rent a carriage house about 2 miles from river street so that we could take our babies with us. this is the house in front of the carriage house....it was in a cute little neighborhood surrounded by those huge romantic trees with spanish moss hanging off them.....

Picture039.jpg

this is the pathway to our carriage house...

Picture040.jpg

and a pic from the inside....

Picture016.jpg

after we got settled in, we decided to take the boys and head to river street. i watched sherman and eli (the dogs) while DH went into wet willie's (which, by the way, has the yummiest frozen concoctions in the world!) to get a drink, then we traded and i went to order food to go from a restaurant and to get a wet willie's drink myself. in savannah you can take alcohol out on the street with you. did you know that the reason sherman (the yankee civil war guy, not my dog!) didn't burn savannah during the civil war was because the locals got him drunk? seriously.

anyway, we sat out on the steps at river street and ate some spinach artichoke dip and buffalo shrimp and drank our wet willie's drinks while the dogs watched the people walk by. i was surprised....they loved it! i figured they'd spaz out, but they were such good boys (DH included)!

Picture021-2.jpg

Picture024.jpg

Picture027-1.jpg

Picture029.jpg

we were pretty tired from the drive and so we decided to head back to the room around 10:00 and get some rest. the dogs were EXHAUSTED! poor fat little eli was just huffing the whole way. we made it back home though and got settled in bed.

friday -

friday morning i got up early (early being 8:30 for me) and headed to the lady and sons to put our name on the reservation list for lunch. i made a pot of coffee and i was on my way!

i found a great parking spot near the restaurant and walked around the corner.....tah dah!!!!!!!!!!

Picture038.jpg

Picture037.jpg

this was the line to put your name on the reservation list for lunch. believe it or not, it's not that bad.

Picture034.jpg

i don't know if you can see it or not, but they have misters attached to the canopies because of the recent hot temperatures. so sweet of ms. paula!!!

i made our reservations for 1:00 and headed back for the car. once i got back to the room, i let DH sleep in and i did some work for about an hour, then we got ready and headed to lunch.

THIS IS THE PART YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!

we got seated within 10 minutes of checking in, even before our 1:00 reservation! we were told to go to the third floor and then we were seated immediately. here's a picture of the dining room.......

Picture044.jpg

and of course here's the menu......

Picture046.jpg

here's the infamous buffet with some closeups. the best $13 you'll ever spend!

Picture045.jpg

Picture047-2.jpg

Picture048.jpg

Picture049.jpg

Picture050.jpg

DH is happy about getting some of that fried chicken.....look at that smug smile, like he's thinking "yeah, you know where you're going......in my belly!!!" and look at that pile of chicken!!!!

Picture057.jpg

this, my friends, is the best sweet iced tea in the world......with a mint leaf for an added bonus. it actually makes the tea even better!

Picture053.jpg

from left to right, a cheesy biscuit and a hoecake, both complementary.

Picture051.jpg

and here's a hoecake the way it's meant to be eaten.......with maple syrup over the top!

Picture052.jpg

here's my plate. clockwise from the bottom: mac n cheese, sweet potato casserole (with pecans...yum), new potatoes, green beans, fried fish, creamed corn and collard greens.

Picture054.jpg

i was so full by the end of this plate that i had to take a break. it doesn't look like alot, but since i've reduced my calorie intake so much since march, my tummy can't hold a lot anymore! but never fear.....i got seconds. i did, however, forget to take a picture and honestly i didn't finish my seconds plate. here we are between our first and second helping. we look happy but it's only because we're already stuffed!

Picture055-1.jpg

we were then offered dessert (which comes with the buffet) and i chose the chocolate walnut gooey butter cake and DH chose the banana pudding. of course we shared and both were soooooo good! we couldn't even come close to finishing them.

Picture056.jpg

CONTINUED.....

MINI SAVANNAH TR - PART 2

friday - continued -

we left and took a minute to walk around the gift shop, where i bought a post card for a friend of mine and the first cookbook paula deen released which has somehow mysteriously disappeared from my kitchen. i think one of my "friends" ganked it!

after that we walked around river street a bit. we actually ended up in the candy store of all places. of course we didn't buy anything.....we were too full! just looked around a little. i saw this flag and it cracked me up.....

Picture065.jpg

i also got my dad a harley davidson shirt so he'd have one from savannah. his birthday is in december so i think i'll hold it til then.

we headed back to the room and just kind of napped for a little while, then we took the dogs to a little park about 2 blocks down the road. we decided not take them out to river street that night because they were having fireworks and i knew it would freak them out. after we spent some time with them in the park, we headed out to river street by ourselves.

we ended up eating dinner at a place called the river house. we just split the ceasar salad (they make it at the table and it's VERY GOOD), fried calamari and crab cakes appetizers. we were still kinda full from lunch. then we walked out and found a nice place to sit and just people watch while sipping on our wet willie's drinks (again). it was around this time my throat started to hurt.....blah.

Picture066.jpg

Picture069.jpg

Picture073.jpg

some artists from the art school set up near us to draw people's portraits. check out this girls shoes. do you remember jellies????

Picture067.jpg

they eventually started the fireworks. i'm not even gonna share those shots - disney puts them to shame! then some street performers started breakdancing while a girl and a guy played the drums. they were sooooo entertaining! the dancers have always been there on the weekends, but this is the first time i've seen them with drummers. usually they're just there with a boombox. anyway, here are a couple pics....

Picture085-1.jpg

Picture089.jpg

after that we decided to head back to the room again. on the way, ray saw this r2d2 mailbox and had to have his picture made with it. i think he wanted to take it home!

Picture078-1.jpg

we headed home and called it a day. little did i know the next day my sore throat was more than a sore throat......

saturday -
DH and i both woke up feeling like poo poo on saturday. he slept in while i thought it would help me to go for a walk. i walked down to the park where we had taken the dogs the day before and kept following the path, which eventually opened up to a 20-foot-wide sidewalk surrounded by palm trees, which had a street on each side with huge, old houses running along the sides. SO PRETTY!!!! i wish i would've taken my camera.

anyway, the walk didn't help. it made me feel worse. we decided to get up and get some lunch and decided to stick with the familiar, so we went to chili's. after lunch we found a target so that i could get some medicine for my cold. we then came back to the room and just laid in bed until around 5:30.....how pathetic! but that's all we felt like doing. it just hit us both at the same time.

we finally got up and fed the dogs, then hopped in the car for our last night in savannah. we found a good spot on river street with the dogs and people watched again. the boys were a hit with everyone...the kids just LOVED them. it was sooooooo cute!!!

Picture105-1.jpg

Picture106.jpg

we watched several of those HUGE ocean freightliners go by. these things are ginormous. they pass by river street on their way out to the atlantic and they're just amazing. it took me three shots to get the whole thing!

Picture100-1.jpg

Picture101.jpg

Picture102-2.jpg

Picture109.jpg

we just kind of hung out on river street until the sun set. ray drank more wet willie's drinks to cure his cold....

Picture112.jpg

he also went to the candy store to get some water (yeah, right) and came back with a box full of pralines, white chocolate covered pretzels and white chocolate covered bear claws. he's so evil!!!

we left around 9:00 and realized we were both kinda hungry, so we went by our favorite little market in town that has all kinds of gourmet food at the deli (parker's market on drayton street if you're interested) and took it back home. i got lemon pepper chicken and ray got chicken cordon bleu and we shared a side of green beans with almonds and sundried tomato salad. it was good for convenient store food!!!

we called it a night as i pumped myself full of medicine hoping to wake up feeling better.

sunday -
i woke up feeling no better and started packing up our stuff. we hit the road around 11:30 and got home by 3:45. i had to share this pic too......traveling buddies......

Picture124.jpg

so that's it! like i said before, we had a nice, relaxing time. but that's what i needed so i have no complaints! the puppies are still recovering.....they've slept for 2 days straight!

Dawn, your puppies are adorable. My DH wants to eat at Lady and Sons soo badly. It looks delicious!:thumbsup2

Okay now I have read the second post.I have been to Savannah and it is beautiful but I didn't experience it at night,It looks like alot of fun.:goodvibes Are you feeling better yet?

Oh, I've always wanted to go to Savannah. Your mini-TR makes me want to go even more!

DH's grandparents live in Charleston, SC, so maybe the next time we visit them, we can go!

Hi there! :goodvibes

I just had to come and read your Trippie after our ALMOST DIS encounter this past weekend in Savannah! I can't believe that we also took the EXACT same pics! :rotfl2: DIS minds think alike!

I must post them! I hope you don't mind, but I find it too funny! :rotfl: I wish we could have met you and your DH! How fun that would have been!

I am a also a HUGE Paula Deen fan, which was the reason we went to Savannah! I went two years ago for my first visit to The Lady & Sons! This trip we made our first stop at Uncle Bubba's! Yummy! My family just loves the entire Deen family! We just saw Paula, Michael, & Bubba this past July in Charlotte! :)

We waited a hour and a half outside to put in our reservation for dinner at the Lady & Sons for Saturday night. We ate there at 6:00pm!

Here are the pics for ya! I think you'll enjoy them! :yay:

Gotta love those Hoe Cakes!!!

First off your babies are soooooo cute!! The house was adorable too. it's always good to do those mini getaways that are actually relaxing not the craziness that is Disney. i think thats how I get DH to go for Disney so often lol, by going to atlantic city for a weekend and relaxing. go figure!

Semi off topic...I now have a need...er i suppose want...for those alice crocs! Are they as comphy as they look? I actually saw a lady wearing them in line the other day but didn't feel like asking her about them, i thought she'd think I was nuts!

ok after lurking and reading your May TR I'm glad I found this one! We were actually there in May too, the week after you...we got there the Friday you left, stayed until Wednesday.

And we're in Augusta, I think I read that youre near Atlanta? Very cool, good to "meet" another Georgian.

Love the Savannah pics, my best friend is there in grad school, also went to college there so I'm very familiar with River St...although parts of it are a bit fuzzy... :lmao:

and YAY your trip is so close!!!

first off, i want to explain fairy tale bride's post for you guys. i didn't put it in the mini TR before because i had PMed her and didn't want to look like a fool if she wasn't the one i saw in savannah. but lo and behold, she was! what happened was as ray and i were coming out of the river house restaurant on friday night i saw this guy whose face looked familiar to me. then walking immediately behind him i saw a girl who i felt like i knew, too. but i couldn't place who they were. about 30 minutes later, we're sitting on the steps on river street and i look at DH and started screaming, "i know her from the DIS. oh my gosh!!!! i can't believe i saw a DISer here. I KNOW HER!!!!" of course he looked at me like i was insane. anyway, it was obviously too late to say hi. i kept my eyes peeled the rest of our trip for her or her husband, but never saw them again. SO CLOSE to my first DIS encounter.....yet so far away. how frustrating but cool at the same time!

Dawn, your puppies are adorable. My DH wants to eat at Lady and Sons soo badly. It looks delicious!:thumbsup2

Okay now I have read the second post.I have been to Savannah and it is beautiful but I didn't experience it at night,It looks like alot of fun.:goodvibes Are you feeling better yet?

you guys should head down there soon. it's not that far from you, right? if you decide to go, let me know and i'll give you some tips on eating at the lady & sons.

Oh, I've always wanted to go to Savannah. Your mini-TR makes me want to go even more!

DH's grandparents live in Charleston, SC, so maybe the next time we visit them, we can go!

i've heard charleston's really nice, too. i hope you get to savannah soon! it's such a beautiful city.

of course i don't mind you posting the pics! i can't believe we missed each other like that. crazy! oh, and check this is out. we went to the lady & sons for the first time back in 2003. paula deen had her cooking show on food network, but wasn't nearly as big as she is now and she was walking around the restaurant talking to people. this was at the smaller restaurant she had down towards city market before she opened up the big place on the corner she has now. she was sooooooo sweet....just like she is on TV. she just doted on me and gave me a big hug. although i do have to admit....i have a personal space issue and i was kinda uncomfortable in this picture! of course i didn't say anything because it was PAULA DEEN and i sorta felt like i was with my grandmother or something!

thanks for the comment about my babies!!! i love them so. everybody kept looking at eli and saying, "look at that round little beagle!" poor little guy!

about the crocs, they were VERY comfy. i wore them both friday and saturday while we were in savannah. i did get a tiny blister on that part of the foot where your bone kinda sticks out near your big toe. but i always buy those blister band aids for WDW anyway, so that will take care of that easy.

ok after lurking and reading your May TR I'm glad I found this one! We were actually there in May too, the week after you...we got there the Friday you left, stayed until Wednesday.

hello! glad to see a lurker come out and say hi! :goodvibes i'm about 50 miles north of atlanta, near athens. my best friend's sister just moved to augusta and really likes it so far! oh, and i hear ya about the fuzzy parts. the first few trips we took are a bit fuzzy for me, too! now that i've gotten a bit older, they seem to be getting more clear! ;)

Very cool that you saw Fairy Tale Bride. I'm hoping to meet her and others at LTT on the 5th before that group does their MNSSHP. We're doing MNSSHP on the 4th, but plan to stop by and meet some of them on the 5th before they go to the party and we head to Epcot.

I'd love to go to The Lady and Sons someday, but probably never will...y'all! I very much enjoy watching Paula cook on TV, and I'd like to taste the famous fried chicken in person! Along with a bite of about every dessert she's ever made. I know that the pictures I've seen of Savannah are beautiful. I'm glad you got to take that mini-trip.

FUN!!! I've always wanted to go to Savannah! We even stayed in Hilton Head once and didn't drive down! I KNOW!

Anyway...sounds like a fun weekend and your carriage house looks perfect. Lots of good drinking and eating! I can't believe you ran into a DISer! Couldn't you just kick yourself when you think you know someone but don't say anything?

I'm glad you mentioned your tiny tummy because I have the same concern for free dining! I haven't eaten much since last Christmas and I don't know how much I can hold...even if it is free! I know DD will split some lunches with me.

Thanks for posting your mini-weekend-report. Your babies are adorable and so cute with the little kids and sleeping on each other in the car.

Car....which car are you taking to Florida? Did you decide? I vote CRV.
