i promised VIckey on her PTR that i would post some pictures from England, and since i don't have anything trip-related to say, i thought i'd go ahead and do that.
These are from this past February/March when i went for my DBF's mother's funeral. i was there for two weeks and we went to London a few times.
The Houses of Parliament and the tower of Big Ben:
British Airways' London Eye, also called the Millenium Wheel. We didn't ride this time but we have done in the past. It takes about half an hour to go all the way around once, it's very cool.
i have no idea where this was exactly, it was somewhere between Tower Bridge and the Monument, which we went to go climb again (having done so a few years ago) only to find that it was closed for refurbishment. my DBF pointed out how cool the clock was. i do remember the time was wrong.
This was another building along the embankment of the Thames, on the City side. It was a few "blocks" down from Tower Bridge, before London Bridge.
This is at Kew Gardens, it's called the Medici Vase:
Kew Gardens is one of our favourite places to go. We went on the anniversary of my stepmom's death, as well as the day after DMiL's funeral. It's such a beautiful place to think about the people you love. This bridge had just been completed when we went to Kew just before i moved back to Canada in 2006. i love the way it curves across the water:
i had never noticed this building before:
Ahhh, this tree. i spent fifteen minutes crouched on the ground, taking pictures of this tree. i have colour pictures and black and white. i LOVED this tree. Especially standing in the middle of the crocus carpet.
At the time i was mad that the bus got in my picture, since i'd had an empty street, but i guess it's cool to have one of the famous London buses with the Tower of London!
i loved this War Memorial. It's across the street from the Tower of London and directly above the Tower Hill Underground station. i set DBF up with the camera, zoomed it how i wanted it, and had him stand stock still while i got into the shot. Poor DBF:
This is Tower Bridge! Unfortunately i have never seen it raised (DBF has), but it's apparently a pretty sophisticated system of both hydraulics and suspension. Neato:
The Tower of London itself is one of the things we did the very first time i went to England, in September of 2005. We hadn't done the Tower Bridge Experience yet, though, so we did that this trip:
This is one of the views from the top walkways of Tower Bridge. You can see St. Paul's Cathedral in the background:
Okay, that's enough for now. i'm not even sure that it's going to let me post this many!
