A few races and food, some theme parks and food, and a cruise...

We're heading down to San Diego to see my brother in a couple days, and I'm going to go to HIS RoadRunner. Sort of start from the ground up. My complicating factors are ankles/feet that do all sorts of wonky things AND wide feet. but I'm willing to try men's shoes for the width if a shoe doesn't come in Women's Wide...after all my feet aren't really fitting into Women's Wide shoes right. Maybe they'll work in Men's Regular.

Hide your eyes, men!

Bought new undergarments today. New sports bras, oh thank goodness. And new normal ones as well. Here's something I have never ever heard. "I'm measuring you just between 32 and 34 band size". :faint: I've never been under a 36. And my pants size (at Old Navy) changed again.

As we walked through the big outlet mall, E asked about the OshKosh/Carters store, and if it's just for "little bitties" or for him, too. Hey look at that, sizes 4-12! Who knew? We went on in, and their jeans fit REALLY well on him. For the moment. Sure, $2 more than the Old Navy jeans, but they are nice. Again, for now. He's in that really annoying place where he's about to be out of luck...was I the only one that didn't know there's no size NINE for boys? Silly.

Ann I can't remember what side of the state you live on. Are you doing the You Go, Girl Half or 10K in Tacoma in September? I'm about to sign up for the 10K for fun and, I think, so I can turn it in for the TOT (we can still do that this year, right? last minute corral placement stuff?). The YWCA people told me that the proceeds from this run are given to them, so that's pretty cool.

Ugh, there's no 9 for girls either. S had to go from a 7/8 or 8 to a 10 or 10/12. That was ugly. Though she could wear leggings and dresses, but even then they were too baggy, too long, or too short/tight. Then you go from a 10/12 or 12 to a 14, I guess. And then you get into the whole mess of "Junior" clothes that look like they are cut for Barbie dolls. She isn't scrawny (not heavy either) and won't likely fit into those clothes. Boys' clothes don't suddenly get super skinny in the teen years but girls' clothes do. And not that I'll want her to wear those clothes anyway, since Junior clothes seem to be made not only for Barbies but also for hookers.

Sorry to rant about that here.

You are so right about junior clothes. When my girls grew into junior sizes I was dismayed at the choices. I will say that today at Forever 21 I noticed that they had some cute tops that weren't too old or too sleazy.

Molly,

Yay for the smaller bra size!!

I have always leaned towards buying men's sneakers. Women size ones are just not wide enough. I blame this all on wearing Birkenstocks and going barefoot.

My great nephew is going through that stage. He is getting too big for his fours but he cannot wear a six, they just hang off of his body. It just isn't fair to little ones is it?

That's good to know; it feels a little bit more fair. Still ridiculous, but fair.

Barbies and hookers, that made me laugh. As a teen I shopped almost exclusively at Brass Plum, the Juniors section of Nordstrom. I wonder if they are hookery like everyone else is now? Not that I know b/c Nordies up here in Tacoma is terrible at service (it's almost ironic) and I have refused to shop there since 1990. :) (so how do I know their service is terrible still? I don't. I just assume, LOL.)

No Michele, it isn't fair to them. Makes me wish I knew how to sew, I tell you!

Did I mention we're heading to my brother's? Like, tomorrow? And I haven't packed. :headache::rolleyes1 The last few days have just been ridiculous. And during the clothes shopping I kept thinking "why don't I do this in California? why am I buying this stuff to pack? why?"

Well right now the washer and dryer are doing my work for me, and E and I have to chat about the extras he's taking.....

I know I already pushed the Adidas energy boost, but another reason I like them has to do with my right foot being wide in the front (narrow at the heels though) That foot in particular has a bunion and getting shoes that have enough of a toebox to make me comfortable has been a challenge. But the boost is a snug... stretch fit. So it is comfy. My son in law has REALLY wide feet and even he was able to wear them comfortably.

I am not far from you in Enumclaw. I am not going to be doing a half in September, but I do need another race for september still. (I do one event per month as well as the kent adventure run at roadrunner) The Go Girl is in downtown Tacoma, right? I am not sure why, but all the races in Tacoma and Seattle scare me cause of the hills. yet, I can do puyallup just fine. (one race actually went from down town puyallup up to the cemetery alongside hwy 512)

As for as a turning in POT for the ToT.. yes, you can still bring the POT to the expo and they will update your bib. (they will just put a sticker on it to indicate your new placement) If you do run the Go Girl, you will have to make sure and let me know how it goes since I not only am skipping it this year (probably) but passed on it last year (I actually drove the route to see if I would die... and decided that since I had just mostly recovered from an injury , it was not worth the risk right before the ToT... not when I didn't need a POT)

My kids got their teacher assignments and class lists in the mail yesterday, and DS has a new student in his class named... Eamon! I don't think I'd have known how to pronounce his name if I didn't already "know" you guys. :)

Have fun on your trip!!

I'll take a peek at the Boost then!

Go Girl is in downtown. I hadn't even thought about the hills, how silly of me. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4025230 Wow I'm course-map illiterate, because I'm not getting that whole go out to Jefferson and 25th ish and turning back and how that just gets you to 3 miles... And a lot depends on the direction you're running Wright Park, LOL.

Augh, just realized that it ends right down in the Dock Street area, which means I get to be part of the stuff that tortures me on lazy weekends...we are up the hill from the pub down there, and they haven't realized how LOUD they are (the city took out a TON of trees, and it's so dang noisy now). Ugh. Now I have to be part of the problem. Dang! (and after running through some of the ickiest parts of Tacoma, to boot!) :upsidedow

How cool is that? Maybe it was someone from our previous message boards who saw the name there. :)

Ahhh, in San Diego now. Ran on real ground this morning, felt good!

I am pretty map illiterate too. That is why I had to go and drive it. I just dont' spend much time in Tacoma and so I really wasn't sure what I was looking at when I looked at the map. I did enjoy the wee little expo they had though on the day of packet pick up. But... yeah, probably won't be doing that one this year.

I just want to say how much I adore running here in Chula Vista. Sure it's HOT right now, but the trails are just so nicely done. Today we walked to and from a park and there's a nice long downgrade on the packed dirt trail and although I was behind my brother and son for most of it, once they stopped I didn't want to. I picked up a ton of speed and just had FUN running. Wow it felt good. I certainly can't keep up that pace (endomondo showed my max speed at 6.5 min per mile!) for anything longer than a minute, but it felt great to just RUN.

Then we got to take a drive to see where there new place will be in a year or so, which was nice. There was a roadrunner sitting on their lot! :)

How fun!! I think that is cool about the roadrunner!

Ran all but maybe 2 minutes of 4 miles today. Super exciting for this Galloway-style walk-jog person! I absolutely adore training with my brother. :goodvibes

Oh and I go way faster than I thought I go! Amazing what having a GPS watch will do for you. (brother has it, not me)

It sounds like you need to get one. Scotty has one with a heart monitor so that he keeps track of his pace. Then he loads all of his rides and runs on Strava. It makes it more fun for him.

It's just a bummer that I have a HR monitor but it's not attached to a GPS. And that it's barely over a year old. I hate feeling like I've wasted money, know what I mean?

Speaking of roadrunners, we went to the original RoadRunner Sports yesterday. Got sort of refitted and even bought orthotics. New shoes, too. I'm now an Asics GT2000 person. Why did they never put me in those shoes before, I wonder? Lightweight, they don't *look* wide (my Sauconys LOOK wide), and they feel pretty good. Having orthotics when I've never had them before is weird, it's like someone has a knuckle under my arch, but that feeling is going away. Did a shorter run in them this morning, and although I can feel that I'm using different muscles (my knees were very confused as I went up the stairs after the run) I can also tell that this is going to be good. Pretty excited about it all.

Did I mention that we get to be part of the WDW MagicBand thing? Staying at Port Orleans Riverside means that we'll be part of it, and I'm able to customize the Bands. I got to make FP+ reservations, too. Nothing terribly exciting, but it was kinda neat. Doesn't feel like all that much time left, even though it's over a month. And I'm feeling nervous b/c I'm not following the training plan at this point, BUT I also know that running on real ground is probably more useful than doing higher miles on a treadmill. I'm really super excited to learn that I actually go quite a bit faster on land than I do on the mill. Of course with my brother I take very very brief walking breaks, and that will have to change during the long race, but now that I know I'm not the slowest jogger on the face of the planet, I'm not as scared of being swept off the course and taken to the end in a vehicle. :) (knock wood for no falling or injuries of any sort)

Isn't it amazing how different it feels to wear shoes that are specific to your gait and foot strike?! I remember getting my first pair of Brooks and it was like my feet had died and gone to heaven. Before that, any athletic shoes I bought would cause me severe arch and top of foot pain.

Now I have a different style of Brooks but they are just as awesome. Last year I was wearing adidas with aetrex lynco insoles (to help my rolling ankle) and I was doing okay but I tried them on again recently and OUCH! Not good!

I remember my first time running outside instead of on the treadmill, wow, I did not last long. Also the impact really messed up my knees. Of course, it's different for everyone and I still have 70lbs to lose.

It really is.

And what's weird is that "my" RRS store was great until, well, until they weren't. They just want to bring me the same same same shoes as I've always bought. And they didn't tell me that there were some relatively big changes made between the Saucony Guide 4 and then the 5&6. Changes that I should have known about. Changes in heel height, basically (there's a different word but I am suddenly not feeling great and don't feel like taxing my brain), that my sensitive foot-bones and ligaments and tendons needed help with.

I tried on three shoes I'd never tried before; at least one BRAND they'd never brought out before. I mean, come on, that should not have happened, if "my" store had been doing their jobs.

Yay for getting new shoes! Just one thing.. it is my understanding that you should never feel the inserts... so if you may want to be mindful of that. If you continue to feel like someone has a knuckle under your arch... it might be a bit too much support for you.

Oh it's already diminishing. When DH got his inserts, they nearly killed him (with pain) the first full day he wore them, then the second day it was nothing at all.

Went to San Diego Seaworld yesterday with my inserts and old shoes (they cut them down a touch extra so they can fit in either size) and it was almost totally great. My shins are questioning the whole thing, but they were questioning everything before as well!

Going again tomorrow, hitting some water rides so we're likely going in flipflops. I love the "buy 1 day get 2" tickets. Could have paid a little more and gotten the rest of the year, but the likelihood of needing that seems low.

Visiting my brother is fun. :)
